Is it a good idea to purchase your own domain for your first website?

Hi Jennifer, it's a very good idea to purchase your own domain. For me it feels more legitimate, and is a psychological step for you to being on the way to making your new business a success. All the best.

Yes, I agree with leoemery, having your own domain gives you presence and legitimacy. I also think that it helps you believe in yourself and your abilities more as it stamps the start of your little empire and makes it your WA business more personal to you.

You can get your domain here at WA, or at a couple of other reputable sites. One I would suggest is godaddy.com, they are one of the best. If it's the first time of using them you can get a .com for $1.00 (one Dollar) and point the domain names at your WA website. Good luck, I hope this helps -Age-

I think the first thing to do is to settle on a niche by settling on what you think you can see yourself writing content for > longterm. Once you settle on that, I think ( and I have more opinions than anything ) it's time to buy a domain name. In the scope of the whole matter of internet marketing the price of a domain name is pretty inconsequential for most people (not everyone I know). Even if you change your mind about your niche down the road, it was less than $15 spent as a business expense. Google domain name generators and spend time settling in on one you like and jump in the water is my idea on the matter.

Yes it is, having your own domain establishes your site and your legitimacy online as well as allowing your to build your brand.

Would "long-distance running shoes" be a good niche? Is it too broad?

That sounds like a great niche, not too broad.

that sounds like a great niche...

Very good choice and narrow enough too, but not too narrow either.

No, this sounds like a good niche Jennifer, definitely not too broad.
