You’re in the right place at the right time!
I recently read a book by the Author Paul Hornsey Pennel called surfing the techno tsunami, that book gave a detailed picture of the coming affects of artificial intelligence and robotics along with the internet of things.
Paul Zane Pilzner once said that the problem will not be with the economy, the economy will do great, the problem will be what to do with all of the displaced unemployed people.
A recent report finds that by 2030, 800 million jobs could be lost across the developed world to automation.
A study done by the McKinsey Global Institute, found that advances in robotics and artificial intelligence will have a massive effect on peoples working lives, this shift is being compared to the shift away from agricultural societies during the Industrial Revolution. In America alone it is estimated that up to 80 million jobs will be automated, that is a 30% reduction in the workforce, similar percentages are expected in the U.K and across Europe.
This process of reducing the work force is expected to be completed in 12 years, the process is underway as we speak.
By being here and choosing to get ahead of the crowd, creating your own peace of real estate in the business world, you should be completely insulated from the problems before they start in earnest, and for that you should congratulate yourself.

Alarming figures. We need the training provided here in WA more than ever. Need to get it to the younger generation do they have options.

There are only so many seats at the table as always, this is the last group of people that will have first movers advantage, not everybody in the world can have a website, there would not be enough customers.
Dire forecasts for sure. I understand the need to progress in technology, but what is going to happen to all those people that will lose jobs or not be able to find one in the first place?? It's rather frightening to comprehend.
I agree with you, Jeff, that we are well insulated here at WA. But we need to "get the job done" while we can. Obviously, the draw of a personal online business is the way of the future.
I keep thinking of the scenes from the movie WalE, where people are on a huge space cruise ship. They lay around on floating lounge chairs with a computer at their fingertips and robots to do their bidding. They never have to move or do anything for themselves. Somewhat tore-telling of a possible end for humanity. Scary to think of.

Millions of jobs will be lost, but we are going to have roles which are not known yet... At the moment we can assume that new jobs will be open in the area of smart devices (maintenance, design, etc), communication with AI, healthcare will get big with private services...and so on...
Yes indeed. I agree with you, AI is taking the world by storm. Well done to you too for thinking ahead.
I can relate to your post since my profession was automation, robotics, and machine intelligent systems. I agree one has stayed ahead of technology and trends.
