Let's Improve Our Bounce Rate

How many of you are having self-doubts about now, and this is quite normal when you start receiving steady traffic with little or no sales. I have confidence from reading many of your posts on Site Comments you all are doing an amazing job, so don't allow those self-doubts to have you double guessing yourself.

Steady Traffic

If you are starting to see traffic regularly this is a sign you are doing a great job, and of course when we work our butts off and see progress with traffic that motivates us. I never check my stats on traffic, and that is because I know my strategy works. So what do I do when I know I am receiving traffic, but not the sales I feel I should be receiving?

What Is Your Bounce Rate

I will pay more attention to my bounce rate than my traffic stats, and the reason I do this is because I know from years in this business if people are not staying on your website you need to make some changes. You must understand the longer people are on your website the greater your chances of sales, so how can you improve your bounce rate is what many of you might be facing right now?

WA's Training

I went through the training, but I don't remember anything on bounce rates. I could have just missed that training, and maybe this is a topic WA has not provided you information on. You can be sure you are receiving the best basic training available online today, but this training is to get you started on the right track which is a very good thing. Once you complete the basic training you are writing blog posts and product reviews, and in the past this was a very effective strategy. Today product reviews are not nearly as effective as in the past, and there are several reasons for this. One is there is way more competition in every niche today than there ever has been since the internet arrived in our lives, and the other reason is the search engines now has the technology to detect every link you insert in your blog posts. So now affiliate links are seen as SPAM sites, and product reviews are really high on the list now as SPAM sites. The search engines couldn't care less about us, they only care about providing the best information to their searchers. So yes, it does seem we are in a battle to keep one step ahead of the search engines, and you really need to keep up with what changes are taking place with how they are ranking.

Blog Post & Product Reviews Success

I will admit there more likely are a very small percentage of members on WA who are experiencing good success with this strategy, but I would be surprised if more than 10% of the more experience members are experiencing a steady income to be able to live on. The members who are doing well more likely have been doing this for quite a while, so more likely they got established before things changed, and so they already have steady customers. As for the rest of you, we must come up with some ways to improve your bounce rate.

Websites With The Best Bounce Rates

We can learn from the website that are high authorites with the search engines, and these website are mainly your social media websites. Now looking at these sites why do you think they are ranked so high by the search engines, so let's brainstorm this and think why do people hang out on these sites?

  • Keeping in touch with family and friends
  • Networking with other business owners
  • Liking, sharing, and commenting on posts
  • Joining and participating in groups

So if we use these for examples how can we add some of these features to our own websites, and providing reasons for our readers to hang out on our websites will improve our bounce rate, ranking, authority, and our sales.

What Most Of You Are Doing Now

The majority of you more likely are doing the same thing day after day in hope that your problem with the lack of sales will go away, and this is very likely to happen if you are patient enough to wait for years for it to happen. By just writing blog posts and product reviews it takes time to experience success, I went this route myself years ago, and it took me several years to start earning a steady income a little at a time. You see this method does work, but with so much competition it takes much longer today than in the past, so we need to improve our bounce rate to speed up our success.

Let's Improve Our Bounce Rate

Just a few days ago I improved my bounce rate on my main website by experimenting, and simply by making a few very small additions to my website I am I seeing progress in only a few days. So what kind of things can we do to get our readers to hang out on our websites longer, and by coming up with the answer to this our bounce rates will improve. Bounce rates are very important to the search engines as well, so we are naturally improving our relationship with the search engines and our readers at the same time. So by putting these two factors together we will experience more success sooner than later.

What Does People Love To Do Online?
  • Chatting is the number one activity people come online to do, so what about adding a chat room to your website? Actually, I just added a chat room on Mentoring with Jeff early this week. I already am I seeing people register to be able to use the chat room daily, so this even surprised me how much of an impact it made to my website in such a short time.
  • As in my last post adding a forum is another option that people seem to love to hang out, so if you are interested in adding a forum this could be a very positive change. Beware a forum is a lot of extra work, so it is best if you have your website designed and completed before starting a forum.
  • I did add an activity feed, but I had to remove it because of some website problems. I also eliminated my online store which is another good source to keep people on your website longer. Once I get my website problems fixed up, I will continue to make additions to my website to provide reasons for my readers to hang out on my website. I am convinced just from adding the chat room this is going to be one of my best strategies, so these are a couple more things you can consider adding to your website if they interest you.
  • What if we can figure a way to add a group to our website, I know from my Facebook training group this will make an impact on your website. You can create just one group focusing on your niche, so all we have to do is figure out how we can accomplish this?
  • How about providing training or classes on your website on whatever your niche might be, I would provide them for free, but have them have to register to grow my email list.
  • Free e-Book Feed is another addition I made this week on my own website, and who does not love to browse for freebies?
  • Surveys, Polls, Quizzes are another option that comes to my mind, so anything that keeps our readers entertained is going to improve our bounce rate.
  • Adding videos for our niche is another good option to consider, and this is especially good if you have your own YouTube channel already.

These are just some things I have been considering adding to my own website, and so I thought why not share these with my followers. Of course, I am not going to be adding all of these, I am going to think about which ones would be the most interest to my readers. I started out with just a chat room and a free book feed, and in only a few days I am receiving people registering just to be a part of my chat room. One thing about a chat room it only takes minutes to set it up, and once it is set up your readers do the rest of the work. Anything that requires registering or signing up is going to grow your email list, and plus if people are registering you know there is an interest, and there is a good chance some of them will start hanging out longer on your website.

Something To Consider

Now you at least have the general idea how to improve your bounce rate if it needs improving, and most of us can always use an improvement in our bounce rate. I know from my own experience this has been a problem for me as well for many years, so by experimenting with new additions to my website as I have the time, I am finding out what my readers are interested in and at the same time improving my bounce rate. Your bounce rate is more important for your ranking and authority than you might realize, and search engines really do pay attention to your bounce rate to help them rank your website and adjust your authority.

Well, I just couldn't sleep tonight until I shared this with you. So now that I have shared what is on my mind, I hope I can relax enough to get some sleep. Remember, you all are very important to me, and I am always keeping in mind how I can help you with my next post.

Hi, Jeff,

Great ideas! I totally agree with you. WA does not cover bounce rates (at least from what I've seen), but it's a crucial factor we should monitor. Having said that, what is an acceptable bounce rate?

You provided some excellent ideas. I still have a couple of questions.
1. How does the chat work? Would I just set it up as a means for my readers to interact? Wouldn't I or somebody else have to be logged on 100% of the time to monitor it?

2. I'd considered including a forum within my site. At what point do you consider it's a good move? When I reach certain number of readers or how can I know it would help me?

I just bookmarked your post for future reference. Thanks a lot!

Thank you,
I love hearing from members with questions of interest to learn more from my posts, so statistics suggests a good bounce rate for bloggers is between 45 to 70. Most of the bloggers contacting me is lucky if their readers are staying on their sites more than 2-4 minutes, and one of the main reasons this happens to bloggers who are providing high-quality content is their ads in their content and their banners on their website is either distracting them or giving the the impression you are just after their money.

You can verify this information with Jay who provides the training here on WA, and he also does not provide banners and ads on his website just as i don't.

Now if you want to dad an ad for WA and Jaaxy or one of two other programs that are your main source of traffic and sales for the future that is fine. I am seeing websites with more ads in their content than content, and websites with banners from top to bottom.

As for chat plugins if you want a plugin for your visitors you want to go with a chat room. I added Simple Ajax Chat Room by just installing and activating it and adding the short code to a page on my menu, I already am receiving steady readers becoming members just to use this chat room.

Chat Bots are more for when you want to be chatting with your readers and customers, so this I suggest you avoid unless you have completed your website and are spending most of your time on there to be available for your readers and customers. You can set up an alarm that will tell when someone is trying to contact you through this type of chat, but for me I tried this and it is too time-consuming for me with all the other projects I am involved in.

Best Plugins For Providing Value To Your Readers

Buddy Press Community
BBPress Forum
Simple Ajax Chat Room
Traing Course Plugins

These are my choices and the ones I am using or I am planning on using on my own website.

Any more questions that is why I am here

Jeff

Hi, Jeff,

Thank you for getting back to me.

I definitely need to work on my bounce rates. I will try to apply some of your suggestions.

I can see chat bots as a time-consuming task. I will look into those plugins you recommend.

Thanks!

You have given some excellent suggestions. One thing I am planning to do very soon is to add a separate social group to Facebook that focuses on my niche subject, but which is not connected to a website. There will be chances to promote my site, but hopefully I'll also create a large audience who is also interested in my niche subject. It should be interesting.

I am all for starting groups on social media, I have several groups besides my website group and all of them are slowly gaining members even without a website connected to them

So go for it
Jeff

Apparently FB likes groups better if they are not promoting a website, at least not by being attached to it in any way.

I don't really know about that, I just started my free training group on FB and it is doing very well in such a short time. The main thing is just like your website provide lots of valuable posts with authority websites within your group niche.

my groups are doing well because I am allowiing my members to post on my groups, I am very strict about SPAM and even one SPAM post I ban that member. I also provide three simple questions to join my groups just to weed out the spammers, so anyone who does not answer the questions or answers in a negative manner I do not approve them as members.

Right now my training group is doing awesome because my members are posting and participating regularly, so that takes a lot of the work off of me having to post as much as I did at the beginner.

I really believe your success will depend on the niche you are creating with your group, so the most important thing to consider before anything else is how popular and interested is your group topic on FB?

My training group is not promoting my website, so it has posts from all my members which I really think that might be why my success has been extremely good with the group only started January 2020

Anything I can do to help feel free to contact me, you might find it a bit overwhelming at first so if you do just let me know since I went thought that process myself earlier this year

Always willing to help
Jeff

Thanks, Jeff. I'll remember you if I need help...

These are all excellent ideas! So, when you install a chat room you do not really have to be there all the time, users can just use it to chat among themselves?
Training and videos are also great ideas. I am going to start making videos this week, so I hope that they will help improve my bounce rate.
Thank you for this post!

Hello, Christine

Just be sure you install a chatroom and not a chat bot, a chat room is for your readers and vistors to chat among themselves, but a chat bot is for you to chat with your readers and vistiors and you will receive a sound alarm every time someone leaves you a message on your chat bot to respond.

My chat room is working very well already for sign ups and my bounce rate

I wish you the best with your videos

Jeff

Thanks! Yes, I will check chat rooms. It's a plugin, isn't it?

I added Simple Ajax Chat plugin, you can set it up with default settings if you wish or customize if as well if you want to put in the extra time.

I like this because it is the simplest self operating chat plugin, you can type it in your plugin search and read what it can do for you

Jeff

Thank you! I'll look into it :-)

Hi Jeff, good to see you here again. This is a really thoughtful & helpful piece with some great suggestions. Have you thought of creating some of this as training, drawing on your experience. I would love to see some covering, eg creating/adding a forum.

Have a great day.

Trevor

Hello, Trevor

I have considered you interest, and if I ever get the time I will share these with you

Jeff
