Content Marketing and Writing: How Often Should You Blog?

Blogging frequency has raised different views among content experts. There have been different arguments on frequency and consistency in blogging. Though consistency is important for content marketing and writing to thrive, frequency also does matter. Now, the question is: how frequently should you publish new posts?

Let’s Begin with Data

You need data to understand the impact of posting blog content frequently. Fortunately for you, HubSpot has some revealing answers to this salient question.

The results from their finding can be used to connect the relationship between posting frequency and increase in traffic. More on it as we progress.

Your content marketing strategy should cover how often you would be able to create new posts. Blogging frequency is a bit complex; so, picking a random number of blog content to post may not deliver.

The findings from HubSpot’s research are insightful. It says: companies with over 16 posts/per month got three-and-a-half times traffic more than those with fewer than 4 new posts. This revelation is tenable and forms a comprehensive argument for being a creative blogger.

Though, HubSpot also looked into other factors which relate to the discrepancies between the B2B and B2C types of businesses. The research also considers the size of the company.

Company Size and Publishing Frequency

The research also tries to compare the impact of publishing frequently to the size of the firm. Note that this comparison is made for many posts published within a month.

Companies that published 11+ new posts generated more traffic than those that published less. At the same time, companies with more than 11 blog posts had up to 3 times more traffic than those with 2 new posts.

For institutions with 11-25 employees that published over 11 posts had three and a half times traffic more than those that published just once.

Writing Frequency

In a research study, HubSpot clearly covered both B2C and B2B writing frequency. The report revealed that B2C companies have a steady relationship between the number of blog posts and traffic.

The result looks almost similar when you consider companies that published between 6 to 10 posts in a month. They show slightly higher traffic than companies that blogged on the post.

However, the difference became more obvious as the companies blogged 11 times or more monthly. They attracted up to three times more traffic than those that blogged just one post.

What’s the Essence of These Data?

Consistency in blogging is crucial to building traffic and leads. Through regular publishing is great; it shouldn’t be replaced by quality. In essence, quality is preferred over quantity. It’s the value of your content that will turn the one-time visitors into returning users, so craft remarkable content.

Let’s look at some other insightful data that validates these findings. Orbit Media carried out a survey in 2018 which covered more than 1,000 bloggers with analysis from Andy Crestodina.

Why Do Some Blog Owners Thrive More?

Andy Crestodina attempted to answer this question in his data analysis. The survey grouped bloggers into three categories where they were asked specific questions. These questions include:

  • What is the average length of your blog?
  • What quality of time do you give your content?
  • What is your posting frequency?

Question three is the data point of interest as it relates to blog frequency. To begin with, Andy expressed that there has been a slow fall in blogging frequency for some years now.

For instance, in 2014, the answer to blogging frequency was “several times per week.” In 2018, the publishing frequency dropped by almost half within this period.

A plausible answer to this decline could be due to how bloggers prepare their articles. The research revealed that most bloggers now spend a good amount of time preparing blog content in 2014.

This could likely be a good reason for the decline, though. It makes sense because when they (bloggers) spend so much time per blog content, it will amount to less publication.

These are the results for the frequency of blogging in 2018:

  • Daily post: 2%
  • More than a daily post: 2%
  • Weekly blog post: 21%
  • Two to six blog posts per week: 18%
  • Less than monthly posts: 5.7%
  • Monthly blog posts: 15%
  • Irregular interval: 15%

Thus, what’s the Ideal Posting Frequency?

We’ve seen different data and arguments from experts concerning the frequency of posting articles. So, the answer to this question is dicey. Making frequent posts has the potential to pull more traffic to your site.

However, do not just publish content to meet a perceived number of blog posts; it doesn’t work that way. You need to match your posting frequency to the resources you have. Also, keep in mind that the size of your company, B2B and B2C determine your frequency.

But is There Any Such Thing as an Ideal Blogging Frequency?

Well, experts at Moz believed that such a thing doesn’t exist. They are a group of experts with experience in content; they believed that data in favor of higher frequency is misleading. They claimed frequency doesn’t matter due to the following factors:

  • Consistency is more significant than posting frequency
  • Keep to your content marketing schedule
  • Are you getting valuable visitors from your frequent posts?
  • Creating content that impacts is more beneficial than frequency

Though these points are valid, they didn’t buttress evidence against the increase in blog frequency.

One way to maintain high posting frequency is to subscribe to a blog writing service. This service is aimed at delivering relevant and quality content for your audience.

Conclusion

We’ve already established that frequency in posting can generate more traffic to your site. We also covered other expert’s view that does not believe in frequency.

In the end, you may need to do your findings to see what works for you.

Great article in regards to content. I am in the process of setting up a content schedule where I am going to do keyword research and production of articles (writing).

I have built a content mill of 38 articles for my niche site and would like to complete five articles a week and post to the website. This helped put things in perspective and I cannot sacrifice quality content just for the sake of posting.
