Indexed! It finally happened.

We all seem to await the word “Yes” to those two words... Google Indexed.

SEO, helpful content, relevant photos, internal/external links, site maps, etc. All of the things we have been learning need to be done, to create a successful site that can be found by the Google robots, in their efforts to index our sites.

For months, I have been going at it, writing and writing. Trying to create content that would be helpful to my niche…Fish Health. Working on trying to get comments from the great people here at WA and offline as well. All in hopes to help the bots begin making the determination that my site is worth crawling.

Midnight oil burning, as I sat writing. My significant other wondering what the hell I’m writing so late at night. (I won’t lie, she thought I was up to no good lol). I had to reassure her it was all innocent, and there was nothing to worry about. For some reason, I tend to find it easier to write at night. That even goes for my oil painting, as well. Don’t ask me why it is that way, I just get the urge to do all of that at night, rather than during the day.

Anyway, after following all of the instruction here at WA in the certification courses. After, contacting ambassadors and quizzing them as to why my site might not be indexed yet, the answer was always the same; “Give it time. It can take 4 to 4 weeks”.

I told them I knew this, from the training and research. But, also expressed my bewilderment because I was seeing people that had just joined and were already indexed. (Please, do not misunderstand me. I think that is great for them and I celebrate in their accomplishments), it’s just that I couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t happening for me yet, considering I had been at it for months now.

Well, I read something posted by another member, that he decided he needed to just start over, delete it all and just start over and go through the training. I had an epiphany for a moment. Of course, I didn’t think I needed to go through the training I had already gone through so far, because I’ve gone over it numerous times already, trying to figure this out. However, I did decide to take that comment of his to heart.

I decided to drop the Siterubix part of my domain, and just bite the bullet and get the real domain. Now, I’m not sure if that was it, that caused the index to happen, but it was part of what I did. I also, uninstalled the sitemap plug-in and reinstalled it, and submitted a new sitemap to Google. I went to Webmaster Tools and got an HTML link to paste into the webmaster tools inside of SEO plug-in... (I had not done that, I had only pasted in the Google Analytics code).

PRESTO!!!!

A couple of days later, I logged into WA and the much anticipated pop-up showed up telling me my site has been indexed. I was overcome with happiness and shock. It had only been a couple of days after doing all of that, my site had become indexed. Not 4 days, not 8+ weeks. Just 2 days. I think I am about to throw a Google Index party! :-D

Well, thanks for reading this far, if you haven’t fallen asleep yet, you might be ready. I just wanted to share my experience, and maybe a tid-bit here or there will help another if they are waiting also. Possibly, just start over. Sometimes, we have to start over, to realize where we’ve been.

Great thinking John. Well done :)

Thanks, Valerie!! :)
I'm so happy (relieved) that I decided to take those actions. To be honest, I was beginning to become a bit bummed out, and did not want to waste my time writing anymore content.

I should have acted on my thoughts John, and that would have cut down a bit of your concern. I was fearful of recommending something that might cause a breakage. Your problem has been a learning curve for me too.

Anyway, all is up and running for your now. You really do have a great website and I'm sure you will be reaping the benefit very soon.

Hey - look at my blog post. It will show you how to get indexed a lot sooner.

Hiya Mike,

Thanks for dropping me the link. I checked it out, and had noticed I had already read your post about that.
Funny enough, I had already inserted my Google Analytics ID over a month ago. I think something had happened along the way that just screwed up the process. Not sure if it was the fact I was still using the "siterubix" platform, or not. Or that I hadn't pasted in the webmaster tools HTML code. Just not sure.

I had searched and was finding pages of my site on google when I'd paste in pieces of paragraphs. So, obviously, they had crawled those pages. However, I still wasn't getting the notification that I'd been indexed. I re-did the whole rigmarole and blam!, everything happened in two days. GO figure.
But thanks again, for trying to help by giving me a heads-up.

No problem. If I can I will always help.

And that is always very much appreciated.

Excellent. Good work. Keep going and it will all be worth it in the end.

Thanks, Gail. I'm on a roll now, and plan on giving it all I've got and become the Stephen King of fish health writing. :)
