Video Reviews - Are they affective?

Hello WA,

I just wanted to get everyone's opinions on video reviews. I just got a free video editor and I am planning on making one tommarow.

There are some reasons why I have decided to give it a try;

-The sites in my niche that use them generally rank pretty well.

- It gives you credibility by showing that you 1. own the product your reviewing 2. use it 3. know something about it and you didn't just paraphrase someone else's review.

- My niche is a nicotine product, so watching me use it in a video will get people feigning and eager to buy (i know this is kind of messed up, but I am just trying to get people off cigarettes =) )

The thing I am worried about is whether or not people will watch it. I usually prefer to read texts over watching videos. So do you guys think this is a good idea or a waste of time? Should I write a text review as a companion?

Video is a great tool! Where are your videos?

They don't exist yet, I will post it when it's finished :)

I would say that videos will only help you. Personally I prefer to watch a video over reading text, but that is just me. I have found that it offers another avenue to find potential customers (when you put it on YouTube which I would recommend).

I think you can make a video much more personal than your written text and can really show people you believe in a product. Of course make sure to have a written portion as well because video is not a substitute to text.

Yeah putting it on youtube goes without question. On youtube it should rank quickly just due to the lack of competition.

I would say so I have looked up stop chewing tobacco videos before and there was seriously one guy that had all the videos that were ranked on the first page!

Offer a written review that also links to a video review and let your visitors choose. I have written reviews that rank very well without videos. Video can only help your rankings, not hurt them in my opinion.

Yeah this sounds like my most likely course of action.

Take a look at google and search under reviews for certain niche products. For some niches you'll find ranked on the first page video reviews, for some none. But one is for sure: a professionally done video will get viewers and a good ranking. But there are certainly products where video can't bring the message.

You make some good points, however I am not knowledgeable enough yet to answer your question. Looking forward to seeing the answer though.
