It's All About What You Put Out There!

One of the things that has prevented me from writing content as frequently as I should is all the distraction within my physical environment. New York City life is really no joke! Don't get me wrong, I love the city for its culture, mixed ethnicity, and thriving life style. But for people like me, even though I love music and sharing a night out with friends, I also like to "hear myself think." And so I started focusing my thoughts in that direction...putting out there what I want manifested.

There is a time and place for everything. Once there are no lines or boundaries, your thoughts start to muddle... at least for me. Many people don't notice the lack of tranquility because they become accustomed to city life. Many people THRIVE on the disquiet of city life.

As for me, I am happy to say to all my friends that I am soon moving back upstate New York, where I can hear myself think... and write more content! Not to say I won't be back to NYC, but just knowing that I am not staying makes me happy:-)

Are there any city-living friends out there feeling the same way?

I do not live 'in the big city' and I don't think I will EVER try to go or move to NYC, but I just grab some headphones (the kind that covers your ears, not the 'ear-bud' type) and drown all of that crap out!

... done that...! A truly noise-cancelling headphone is yet to be invented. I've tried what is supposedly the best and I can still hear the background noise... even while listening to my own music :-(

I love NYC and if I lived there, I would be greatly distracted! I live in the suburbs of Washington DC, so I do find myself distracted bby all the things that go on in this area on the weekends. HavinHaving a child in school keeps me grounded during the wweek.

I know... we want to savor all that city-living offers, but for some people it comes at a high cost:-)

My teenaged daughter has been hassling me about moving into the big city...about all the things you mentioned and how stale it is here in our little highway town. When you live in the city you can disappear into the crown and anonymity. Here when you walk to the store you are often the only one on the road haha. I have been trying to tell her the romance of the city isn't all you think it is from my many years there. You hang out with about as many friends as here, and going to all the shows and cultural events and eating out (I do miss the restaurants) you have to be rich anyway and it would be cheaper to travel there and do those things about as many times as you would living there. The difference is you are paying twice as much for a space probably a fraction of the size...I would love the city if I was a millionaire and that would be the only time I would ever move back....that or if I was a young, single, student, the city is so romantic, but always a distraction no matter what age. Boredom helps with my writing a lot here haha

Hi Gordon! That is something to consider... boredom pushes you to write content... :-) Sometimes life pushes us to undesired situations so that we can focus on the real things, whatever is on our path to emotional stability. Financial success is a huge contributor. Maybe you can convince your daughter that once you reach success you will consider moving to the city? And she'll be a little more patient, I bet.

Haha thats what I keep saying. "When our ship comes in" otherwise she may want to go do her 20s there for school or something. And at that point, she won't want dad around lol Right now she can't imagine going there alone

You're on the right track... never lose faith... it will happen as long as YOU want it and you focus your thoughts :-)

Location location location Jan. It does make a difference!

It sure does Michael! :-)

Hi Janet, I hear what you are saying, really like the part about hearing yourself think, we can get so busy in the hustle and bustle. Stepping back and refocusing can be one of the best things that we can do especially for that creativity.
Moving to a better living flow can have huge benefits.

Yes!!! then your creative juices flow easily :-)
