Day 12 - Learn How to Build a Website Yourself in WordPress 2017
Hey there and a Big Welcome to Day 12 of Learn How to Build a Website Yourself in WordPress 2017 – we're still on keyword research!
NOTE:

Now for a recap on what I did yesterday – Day 11:
- Went through Google’s search bar to find related keywords
- Relooked at long tailed keyword research with Robert’s training
- Went through the WA Keyword tool to check the searches and competition for your related keywords as well as your main keyword
- Creating a list of several related keywords that you can use to create one post and hopefully rank for more than just your main keyword
Since yesterday, I’ve had a couple of Private Messages about keyword research and I thought today, instead of charging into creating our post, we would look at keyword research a bit more.
For me this REALLY IS the ‘foundation’ of whether we get traffic from Google or not, especially since we’re building a brand new website.
I’m pretty sure we’re all in the same boat about wanting to make sure that whatever we’re promoting, we want to make sure that our keywords rank as quickly as possible and it’s only by chasing after long-tailed, low competition keywords that we can do that – especially with free traffic!
So Today…
We’re going to continue to look at Keyword Research
AND…
We’re going to ‘drill down’ to find those golden nuggets.
I remember going through one of Kyle's training videos on how to get keywords ranked with low-hanging fruit and I found it.
This video by Kyle is a great watch and I would definitely recommend watching it again:

In Roberts WA Keyword Tool training yesterday he has these parameters for keyword research
- Searches greater than 50
- QSR - Competition less than 300
- Article Power greater than 8
I’m going to incorporate Robert's training from yesterday with Kyle's training today.
In Kyle's training he says that it’s best to have competition of less than 100 instead of Robert's 300, so we’ll work on getting to that under 100 competition today with our low hanging fruit keyword.
I decided to continue with yesterday’s keyword
puppy potty training
At this point this keyword in the WA Keyword Tool has these parameters:
- Searches of 913
- QSR – Competition of 313
- Article Power of 8.1
The competition is over by 13 so now I will drill down and I decide to add on the word ‘tips’ so now I have:
puppy potty training tips
Now we have:
- Searches of 509
- QSR – Competition of 164
- Article Power of 8.6
Well that’s looking a lot better with a competition of only 164 but we still haven’t got to Kyle's expected 100 competition
Time to add another word, so I go with the word ‘free’ at the beginning so now I have:
free puppy potty training tips
Now we have:
- Searches of 144
- QSR – Competition of 21 – Woohoo!
- Article Power of 8
Yay, we’ve found our low competition, long-tailed, low hanging fruit keyword
So now I have the possibility of not just ranking for puppy potty training but for all of these other keywords too:
- puppy potty training tips
- free puppy potty training tips
- free puppy potty training
- free puppy potty tips
- puppy potty tips, etc
Now if I add related keywords into my content, such as ‘techniques’ and ‘guidance’ etc,. as I mentioned yesterday, we could rank for many more keywords.
AND…
I could also add the words ‘best’ and ‘easy’ in front of my main keyword inside of my content AND then I could rank for a lot more keywords.
So this is what this list could look like if I added in these extra keywords:
puppy potty training tips
- free puppy potty training tips
- free puppy potty training
- free puppy potty tips
- puppy potty tips
- best puppy potty training
- best puppy potty training tips
- best puppy potty training techniques
- best puppy potty training guidance
- easy puppy potty training
- easy puppy potty training tips
- easy puppy potty training techniques
- easy puppy potty training guidance etc
OK, so I realize some of these may not get very high searches, if any at all, BUT the point here is that if you’ve done the research content you have every possibility of ranking for these keywords over time.
Do you see the amazing potential here?
Please, Please, Please go through this exercise, it will definitely be worth it…
We’re going to leave it there for today, we’re going to start creating our post tomorrow…

I will definitely think about putting together the posts into an ebook, it's certainly been an awesome process for myself about how to build a website with daily tasks.
