Whose Business Are You Minding?
As I am reading Robert Kiyosaki 's book "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" he is making me really see how I have spent the last 40 years of my life minding someone else's business. I have made millions for Woolworth, KMart, Target, car dealerships, and timeshare resorts. Yes I have owned a small business, but as I look back over my life, I realize that I never invested as much in my business as I invested in the business of my previous employers.
That fear that Mr. Kiyosaki speaks of motivated me to be a much better employee than I ever was an employer. However, in my defense, I must say that I was financially illiterate. I didn't understand at that time that I was working for money that was never mine because I had to give away all that I earned and was unable to keep any. He has helped me understand that I was working for the government, who took its part first and gave me the balance. Then after I've already been taxed, I have to pay taxes again on whatever else I purchased, such as house, car, groceries, etc. So in essence, I have been minding the government's business too! So that is why I ask, "whose business are you minding?"
We are all here because we are tired of minding someone else's business and are ready to start minding our own. Yes, some of us will have to continue to work for someone else for a while, but in the meantime we must work harder for our own businesses than we do others. That is going to take making some sacrifices, but the end result will be so rewarding.
I am determined to put more effort into my business and increasing my portfolio and income statement than I have in the past. We all want to be financially independent, but are we really ready to invest the necessary time and money required to achieve it?
The time is now. There is no better time to get into IM. With billions of people on the Internet, there is no shortage of consumers. Now all that's needed is meeting a need of the masses, supply and demand, or shall we say Economics 101.
So, what business are you in?

You are absolutely right!
The title of this post is the $1.000.000 question! We usually work for someone else's dream, that's our biggest mistake and that's what makes the difference between all those successful businessmen and us! I guess that, all WA members are in a process of re-evaluating that condition and that's what brought us all here. It's time, for all of us, to start thinking and acting based on that.
==> Let's start minding OUR business!
Thanks for posting!
Gus
I feel a paradigm shift is happening. I'm ecstatic to see so many changing their attitudes. It may have taken us a while, but we finally wished up!
Thank you for your comments. It is so refreshing finally talking to like minded people.
Thanks WA!
No doubt about it Jackie - "Rich Dad Poor Dad" is essential reading for anyone looking to get in the game for themselves.
One very interesting lesson that I have learned from foreign born folk that I have worked with, befriended, and known over the years is that the US is a huge land of opportunity that many american citizens (including myself) take for granted. I have noticed that we tend to focus on the employee side by default instead of viewing our economy as an incubator for business.
But that all changes now though, right?
Great post.
You are so right! It's our time to rise and shine! I mean to rise up and soar above our comfort zones and shine so that we burn so brightly that we draw success to ourselves.
You know what's REALLY crazy? I have known my share of business owners through time and I've realized that owning a business (and making a nice living by extension) isn't easy...but it's far more achievable than most people realize.
I have seen all kinds in business for themselves, and MANY of them weren't rocket scientists (if you catch my drift). The difference between them & everyone else was their makeup. To be specific, it was their mental attitude towards business.
They knew what kind of product or service they intended to offer & just did it. Pretty simple when its viewed that way.
Truer words have never been said! I just regret that it took me forty years to allow change to penetrate my attitude. All of those wasted years. However, there is no time like the present.
Well Angela Basset & Phylicia Rashad struck the big time after 40 (I think). Trust me, I'm right there with ya. And I plan to be on easy street in the this frame of life too. I know how to get it now. And let's face it; some people never figure it out.
You are exactly right - we should be really working as hard as we can on our OWN business to become as successful as we can be - Thanks for the reminder
We now have the inside track on what it takes to win in this market. It is time to duplicate the process of our mentors and soar in our own business!
