Who Lost That Darn Boolean, Anyway?! or, "What's Your Number?"

No, that has nothing to do with this post, but somehow I thought that was funny. This really has to do with Brian Tracy's question, "What's your number?

In order to grow something (like traffic, unique visitors, prospects or sales), you need to quantify & track them. Hence, Business Guru Brian Tracy asks executives of troubled companies, "What's your number?" I.e., what ARE you tracking, if anything? What SHOULD you be tracking?

For myself, that means, I think, getting people "through the front door", to actually trip over some of my websites. First, get some traffic. Then, convert more to prospects. Then, convert more of those into customers. Then, convert more of those into repeat customers or even evangelists.

So, for me, that boils down into traffic for ONE website? Hardly.

I know, I'm supposed to foc... what was that flying by? What's the weather?

BUT, that won't exactly happen. I bought a ($597/mo) SEO treatment for one website (anabolics.se) from a top SEO farm - with my guy working in Unit 8, Building 5, and he soon gets to see his family once a month if he behaves - and a 5-campaign package from a link builder highly-recommended by a successful friend. Then, I want to practice raising Alexa/Google rankings myself, so I'll be working on at least 1 other website personally. I may even do a link dump on a throw-away site, to see if I get eaten by a Panda.

So, I'll be tracking at least 7 websites (I have, gulp, 16) these next few months, 3 of which are money sites. Will they all rise? Will I out-SEO Mr. Patil? Will Mr. Patil out-SEO some kooky algorithm that figures out what links to put on what pages on what day on 5 sites? (Will Mr. Patil try to kill himself by jumping out of a first floor window?) Will income start to outstrip costs 3 months from now?

Watch this space for the unexpected answers!

(Now I need to run & put some tracking footers on 15 sites. Gulp!)

It didn't take much but you lost me ...

Not used to having my writing be hard to follow, since I communicate for a living. If it was the first line, skip it - it's a joke. The point of the post was that I have to have some number to track, and I'm choosing traffic/unique visitors as my number for now, on 7 or 8 sites. In the future, that "number" may change to opt-ins or sales, etc.

lol

First line no problem ... the rest is a blur ... $597/mo SEO treatment? Mr Patil? SEO farm?

My LIFE is a blur...

I contracted with a company out of NY to do SEO for me on a Body Building supplement website for 6 months. They put me in touch with the fellow who will work on my account, a Mr. Patil who's clearly in Mumbai, India, and works in "Unit #8" of that company. The rest is an attempt to spoof the weirdness of that, since it sounds to me more like a farm than an office. It made me think of the people in Foxconn in China jumping out of the 2nd story windows in desperation, as they spent 11 hours a day putting together iPhones - until Foxconn finally put up a net around the perimeter of the building. http://www.dailytech.com/Foxconn+Installs+AntiSuicide+Nets+at+Its+Facilities/article18877.htm

Actually my life is a blur too ... imagine that.

I get it now. But why pay for SEO when you are learning it (and paying for it) here? Just to compare or ...

Because this website used to sell a bunch of supplements, then one owner put it on ice for a few months, then I've owned it for 4 or 5 months while paying $97 a month to Shopify while not getting a penny in sales (except from 1 guy who thought they were steroids, since refunded) despite applying basic SEO.
This is a great agency (about 500 local agencies outsource through them), I will be assisting by adding content, and I need to catch the wave of the Nov-Dec buying season.
Once this is built up, and once I get reasonably good at SEO, I'll re-decide this.

Great business decision, I understand your position perfectly. Is this "SEO farm" contact something you'd be willing to share or would one need a super duper top of the line secret decoder ring to get such information? You can PM if you'd like.

Thanks

E
