Website organization-Parent Feature

Thank God I finally figure how to do it.

I actually created several pages of different subject and just published. When they were so many that it doesn't look good to my header, I thought it is easy to organized them using category, however there is no "category" feature for pages. What I see is "Parent Feature".

So I recall some of my thesis writing organization style. What I did is, I created a page with no content, just the TITLE (Category title or the Parent title where I will put my pages). I published 3 page of that kind and edit each page I created, I changed the parent feature of each page to the corresponding parent title I previously created.

Now aside from About Me and private policy I only have 3 pages on my header. I hope I can make a way that when my cursor is pointed to the main page- a drop down list of post or pages under that main page will appear. Just like a category feature.

I've seen a theme suggested by fellow WA member which offers such kind of effect but I hesitated as I've already done a lot of organization and set-up on my current theme.

Well lets see in the future, at least I've learned something new today worth it for staying late at night.

My question is I'm really not sure of what I've done. It looks good to me however does it affect the navigation of my previous pages? I hope someone will reply on this specially those who knows a lot about content organization.

Cheers!!! Have a Healthy, Happy and Wealthy Life" everyone!!!!!!

Hi, ivanjane. I thought of just dropping by to see how you are doing with your website. As you can see, @RICH here is very good resource person to help us with our issues. Please feel free to get in touch.

Hi Betcha thanks for the support, I'm on duty(night shift) so i was not able to come back. God bless.............

You're always welcome, ivanjane. We are just one click away whenever you need help.

Hey Jane. If you just want a "title" on the menu, that pages drop down from here's the trick. In Appearance > Menus add a "Link" item to the menu, just fill it with something like http://www.google.com temporarily and label it what you want as the menu title. Add it to the menu and indent underneath the pages you wish to dropdown from it. Then delete the google link so leaving it blank and save. :) You will have a menu item which pages dropdown from but isn't clickable. :) Rich.

Uuhhhhmmmm...this looks new to me. I wonder if that is not clickable, is that still going to be another page under the main page? Anyway, I'll have to try how this trick works. for sharing, Rich.

Rich, that was easy to do. I tried it but why do we do this trick? What is it for if it is not clickable? I don't see it as a page either.

It allows you to put something on the menu which can be dropped down from without being clickable itself. For example you might title it Tutorials and then have a dropdown list of separate tutorial pages, etc. Rich.

Does this mean that the tutorial pages I put under Tutorials would then be clickables? It's sinking in to me now. I'm just not too sure about it but I know I wanted to do this somewhere. I had this issue before but I forgot to ask. Thanks so much, Rich. I know I will get back to this some time.

Exactly. The menu title "Tutorials" would not be clickable but all the dropdown pages added would be. Why not simply create a siterubix test site, go to Settings > Reading and "discourage search engines" and have a play?! :) Rich.

There you go again!!! Oh, Rich, what a thought! I worked hard on this when I first started. I experimented by trial and error but didn't find the solution back then. And because I didn't know the trick, I had to crack my head writing some contents on the main page. Ughhhhh...but one good outcome, my writing skills were enhanced. LoL! I tried it on my website just now and it worked. This will come handy on my online tutorial services one of these days. Thanks a lot, RICH, you're such a time-saver!

You're most welcome! :) Rich.

Thank you Rich, that was awsome, I'm wondering before what was the use of that link on the menu as I was experimenting on all the features inside WP. I have to try that though I just changed my theme and I can see when i click the parent page a drop down list of all the child page shows up. I will do your suggestion, its a new knowledge for me. Thank you. I hope I can show you my website with Betcha to have some feedback but I know I can't plug my website name here. Probably after I finished my new content..... cheerssssssssssss

Hi IvanJane. I really don't know what you want to do. But here's a link that will help you work on your pages.

You can put several pages under your main page and order them according to your set up. This will create a drop down on your main page. I hope this helps. If you need more help, please feel free to ask.

Thanks Betcha, that's what I had done, my main page is blank just the title, do I need to put keywords in it?

I wonder what lesson you are in now. If you follow the lessons step by step, you will eventually come to the keywords. It will show you what to do. I did put keywords on my home page.
