Adding and editing a page can be confusing to a beginner especially when it does not appear the way you wanted it on your website.

At this point, you must have created your "About Me," "Privacy Policy," and probably "Home" pages. You must have also deleted some of the default pages that you don't need in your website (Online Entrepreneur Certification, Getting Started Level 1 - lesson 8).

Now, let's take a look at editing a page. This is how it appears on your screen when you open a page that you want to edit:

Right here, you can change anything on your page. Explore every feature that you can see. If you want to change any of your text within the page, simply highlight the text(s) and make the changes.

On the lower righthand sidebar, you will see "Page Attributes" which is very important in the setting of your menus. There is the parent, template, and the order.

  1. PARENT: "no parent" means that the page is a menu name on your navigation menu. You can select the menu name where you want your pages to be and they will become a drop down of your menu.
  2. TEMPLATE: you may leave this on the template default. But if you want a different setting, you can choose where you want your sidebars, and how many columns you want on your website if this is a feature on the theme you chose.
  3. ORDER: The order is from 0 through the number of menus you have on your website (0, 1, 2, 3, . . . ), 0 being the first and I have no ideas why this is so. So, if you want your "Home" page to be first in your menu, the order would be 0. If your "About Me" page is next, then the order would be 1, and so on.

Same is true with the drop downs from your menu. You can order them from 0, 1, 2, 3, . . . however you want them to appear on your navigation panel.

UPDATE every changes and make sure you publish your page.

Reminder: If you don't want your "Privacy Policy" to appear on your menu, simply scroll down on your privacy page (or any page for that matter) andUNclick the box under Exclude Pages. (Online Entrepreneur Certification Getting Started Level 1 - Lesson 9).

By now, you should be getting the hang of building your website. Love what you are doing so that you will enjoy building your website!

You're most welcome, Beccah. Those are the things I needed help with when I first began building my own website. And I didn't find a one-stop tutorial that can walk me through WordPress. That's why I thought of putting 'em together to help others who are just beginning. I'm glad it could be of help to you. Happy building! It should be fun!
