Building Your Why Statement
Today is as good of a day as any to add a why statement to your notes, or post by your computer to visit when you feel like you can't go any further on your content.
For those of you who don't know me I am Andy. I have been with Wealthy Affiliate since June 17th 2014 and an affiliate marketing professional since January 2004. I am a survivor of a major nervous breakdown and have Bipolar Depression and Social Anxiety disorders because of it.
I am probably one of the least self motivated people on the site during my bad times but also one of the most highly self motivated most of the time. In fact I am one of the most social people online at WA and I have massive social followings on network after network because I like to help and uplift others.
Living the dual personalities of Bipolar one tool that helps me keep going is my Why Statement.
To me a GREAT why statement spends less time talking about my 7 kids, my 3 grand children, and my loving wife Cary. Sure they are a big part of my drive but at the end of the normal spiel you are left asking, what's In It For Me?".
Spouses pass on, or move on. Kids move away, grand babies grow up, and at the end of the day if you use your everything up on everyone else you are left empty. If all in the world went wrong and it was just you what would be your reason why needs to be a factor.
Below is my reason why updated this 28th day of 2025.
The Reason Why I Get Up Each Day and Continue My Journey Towards Online Success.
I have a family it is filled with many blessings, a loving wife, 7 kids, 1 Step-Son, 3 Grandchildren and counting. My wish is to provide security for them and the freedom to live their dreams. More importantly though I have chased Entrepreneurship since age 8 when I started raking leaves to earn a bicycle.
I have never been much of a follower, in business offline I owned or managed companies for over 14 years and never felt right having someone else choose my value or set a limitation on what I can be. Because of this my true why is to have the freedom to do as I choose, when I choose, and where I choose. To have the financial security to not worry about today's meals and have my family well set on having this liberty themselves.
My dream is to retire well enough off to go fishing more, to adventure more, and to leave a legacy of success fueled by passion and determination and to have proven you are defined by actions not disabilities.
I hope you enjoyed this post and can leave your why statement to empower others below.

Oh yes, I thoroughly enjoyed this post. My why is basically for the same reason. I want to do what I want, when I want without any financial setbacks or time crunches. It's all about the freedom for me.
"Spouses pass on, or move on. Kids move away, grand babies grow up, and at the end of the day if you use your everything up on everyone else you are left empty. If all in the world went wrong and it was just you what would be your reason why needs to be a factor."
That whole paragraph above is the key take away for me. It's very profound. I've seen how my mom is since my dad passed away and she doesn't do anything to live a life for fun, joy, or purpose. My sister just retired from work and she doesn't know what to do with herself. Neither my mom, nor my sister really have any interests that keep them satisfied to where they actually enjoy life. It's really sad. They both are just going through the motions. My brothers and I, thankfully, have many interests, hobbies, and entrepreneurial personalities.
They need to find something that sparks passion and breathes fire or life will be so bland. A bland life has too much wasted time in it and no spose I know would wish that on the survivor.
Great post Andy and good luck with the dream.
My "why" is so that I can do what I want, where I want when I want without having to worry about the finances.
This means spending time with and providing for my family.
Rick
Sounds like a less verbose summary of why I keep going year after year and know success will come again.
Thanks, Andy.
Unfortunately, I have a different "Why" I am asking. It seems that ChatGPT is having serious cranial flatulence and has gotten to the point where it is not following my directions/instructions. So, I had to shut it down for the night, and hope I can get the 5 chapter done by Monday the 30th. In two days.
Thanks for listening.
JD
Mine petered out on me last night too. I was up until 2:30 in the morning working with ChatGpt. It was very frustrating, and I finally went to bed.

Very enjoyable, thank you.
My why is "why not me". I hadn't had very much motivation or direction for most of my life. I finally got up the nerve to do something about it and joined WA after sitting on the fence for 10 years about it. So glad I did, I love the community and my confidence is growing daily. Thank you Andy & to everyone else here, the self esteem I'm gaining is invaluable.
Awesome. We are glad to have you here.
