About Immistermike
Joined August 2016
I was recently forced out of the "working" world, only a couple of years away from retirement. Starting over with a new job would require a move. I've thought of doing this internet thing before and for whatever reason just never did it. This time I did take the plunge! And you know what, my association with Wealthy Affiliate is one of the best decisions I've made!

In no time at all I have:

* Been introduced to the affiliate marketing concept behind Wealthy Affiliate
* Found and honed down a niche market
* Acquired the knowledge to use Keyword Tools such as Jaaxy.com and WA’s
own Keyword Tool
* Designed and constructed an attractive website that I have built out on using my knowledge of my niche market
* Optimized my website with Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
* Indexed my website for Google® and Bing® using Google+
* Drawn internet traffic to my website

I've also been able to draw extensively on my IT background, especially in imaging, networks and web protocols.

Enough about work! I also play guitar and sing in two local bands. One is a classic rock band focused mostly on late-60's, early-70's music with a few more modern tunes (anyone like John Mayer?) My other band is a church band where we literally rock the house on the rock every Sunday. Two of my band mates also play in both of these bands.

Aside from that I'm a bit of a tech-nerd. I love solving problems and making the day-to-day a little easier and a little more fun.

Stop by anytime and drop me a line. And if you're a Wealthy Affiliate or simply want to become one, don't hesitate to let me know or ask. Hope to see you around!

Hi Mike, I found you when I read about the profile of another WA member here. Me also recently got "early retirement" from the company I worked for 20 years. It is "lose" moment for me now as I looking for next income to support my family. Wish to learn more from you.

Hi there,
nice to hear from you. I am following you back. I am fortunate to still have a job but I know I could loose it anytime. I also know that I would need to earn some more money in order to get a decent retirement. In fact creating your own revenue is the answer to freedom and in the long run to financial security.
I wish you the best and lets keep in touch.

Cheers,
Jojo

It would have been much better to have the additional revenue in place before getting canned, but I believe that all-in-all things worked out for the best!

Thanks for reaching out, Jojo! Always here, so let's do stay in touch!

Hello, Sir:
could you please tell me what this .php folder are and what I have to do with them?
They send these things to you as bonuses when you buy a program.
I do not know what is the use of them:

admin-page.php
amazon-discount-finder.php
css
data.php
editor-plugin.js
head.php
icon.png
images
js
pop-up.php
shortcode.php
tiny-mce.php

Hi Phil,
I'm not familiar with them, either. The WordPress stuff I use comes through WA and I don't have a need to deal with them. I would assume that they go into your website's root directory, but I'm not sure. That's probably a good question for SiteSupport.

Wish I had more!

First thank for the follow, Sorry for being forced out of your job before you wanted. I'm sure we're on the same page when I say, "When a door closes a window opens." This was meant to be. I feel you are going to be just fine. You're in the right place.

I know we're not supposed to be jealous but I am. You sing in not one but two bands. That my friend is very cool. The best way to let out stored up emotions. You must feel great after your last set. Especially after church.

Say plugged in,

Thank you, Darin, for the kind words of encouragement. You're right about the window opening. It's been tough but I'm determined to see things through to the other side.

The bands are fun. Sometimes stressful. Sometimes relaxing. But always fun!

Good afternoon Mike,

To be able to make music helps with being happy, at least I think so. When I was young I played some instruments and also wrote little pieces of music, well, that is a long time ago. I can not sing but I am an excellent whistler if I may say so myself. In case you need a good source for writing do have a look at my second post, the one about the world library, it might be helpful.
Thank you for the follow and good luck.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for following! It's great to meet you here and be a part of your network...I see we have a bit in common. I love messing with images and trying out new artistic/photo tools since I use them for tweaking artwork at times...still a lot to learn though, lol.

It's also great to hear you play guitar as well. I used to play for fun, but haven't done so in quite awhile.

Anyways, it's great to connect with you here, and I look forward to seeing you succeed!

Best wishes :) ~Sherry

Stay in touch and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Been having internet issues since late afternoon today (11/7/2016). Some websites come up great. Others eventually fail with a failed DNS lookup. It reeks of earlier issues where some "backbone" web servers went down and your success in hitting websites depended on which hub(s) you went through.

That said, AT&T has been having major issues today, especially since 4PM. I know a lot of these "backbones" route through AT&T's servers, so if you're having connectivity issues, this just might be why.

From http://downdetector.com/status/att

Recent reports [AT&T outages] mainly originated from: Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, Mountain View, Evansville, Saint Louis, Austin, and Brooklyn.

Don't know any details. Just know I can hit some websites and others fail the DNS lookup.

Your story is not unique. I have had many friends who were "forced out of the "working world" only a couple years before retirement and then were cheated out of their retirement and pension payments.

You will be able to recover from your losses here at Wealthy Affiliate if you put it in the time and effort and willingness to learn new skills and be open to new possibilities.

Many thanks for taking the time to follow me. I am now following you. I can tell you have been busy in the short amount of time you have been here. I will look forward to reading through all of your WA blogs. :)

Sorry to hear you were forced out of the working world so close to retirement. The hospital I work at likes to do that. That way they can hire in just-out-of-schoolers and pay them less with less benefits. Hopefully I'll have this up and running soon so I can quit before my turn comes. Best wishes for your success!

Hi Pauline!
Wow! You honor me! First, welcome to Wealthy Affiliate! I'm glad to see you took the Premium plunge, too. It's really the only way to take full advantage of the incredible opportunities that are available to us as members. Everything you need is laid out all round you in the form of courses, video walk-throughs, access to Kyle and Carson, access to the full membership which is a gold mine in itself!

Second, thank you for checking out my website and I am thrilled that it gave you some hope! One thing is for sure: none of us is ever too old or ill to start over. One of the things that struck me the most about WA and was a key selling point to me was/is the philosophy that we are here to help each other. From the membership aspect, we ask how we can help and the driving factor behind the content we put on our web pages is geared toward helping someone.

Lastly, and this is just to make things clear, WA is not a get-rich-quick program or product! What it does is guide you to lay the foundation for a well-grounded affiliate marketing website, be it a niche or WA membership itself. Don't get me wrong, we're here to make money online, for sure. But the WA program teaches us to patiently build a rock-solid online business with proven principles and concepts.

Well, I hope I didn't run you off with my long-winded essay! lol! At this point, the best thing I can advise you to do is to jump into the Entrepreneur Certification courses. Here's a link to the first one. You can also get to it by clicking on the green widget in the upper left of your screen. If you ever feel stuck or not sure of where to go or what to do, please don't hesitate to let me know or ask someone! Niche selection comes to mind. It was one of the hardest and most confusing things I've done here and I made some mistakes that I've had to go back and un-do. I'm a little wiser now, but hardly the expert marketer. All that to say, I'll help you in any way I can!

Best of success to you, Pauline!

Thanks Shawn! My most pressing issue with Amazon is that I can't be an affiliate with them because of the Nexus laws. There are a handful of states, mine included, that Amazon won't affiliate with citizens because they (Amazon) refuse to collect and distribute sales tax. I gather it to be tit for tat, but as usual Joe Public pays the price.

That is unfortunate Michael. Thankfully, we don't have that issue in Canada, as far as I know.

Michael, I see you are making some good progress through the Affiliate Bootcamp. Just wanted to pop by and see if you need a hand with anything?

I also wanted to mention the success rates of Bootcamp. Absolutely everyone that has taken action on all of the phases of Bootcamp has a business that is generating consistent income online. MANY of these folks are going to be at our super affiliate conference next year.

I want this to be you and I want you to succeed with your promotions. So, please promise me that if you ever need a hand or feel stuck as you move forward, that you will get in touch with me!

Trust me, I know things can be a little overwhelming sometimes and I don't want you feeling like that.

Anyways, just checking in. Get back at me if you need anything Michael.

Hi Kyle! Thanks for checking on me. I suppose that yesterday was one of the worst I've had in a long time. Nothing really to do with WA, although a positive upswing with it would put my mind at ease, but with my situation and I came close to throwing it all in last night. But... I ddn't.

I've got my guitartheorywithmike.com website rolling on a facebook ad campaign. So far it's passed by 9836+ people and 262 have actually clicked on the website. No stats on what they clicked. I did get a notification from eBay last weekend that someone had clicked on one of their links on my blog. I probably need to add an email subscriber feature to try to make sure some of those come back. Gotten several positive feedback messages.

I really appreciate you checking on me. Right now my goal is to finish the WA boot camp. I really wish I could come to Vegas. Wow! That would be a take-off, wouldn't it? lol

Thanks again and I promise, I'll reach out

I would not diversify too much early on, instead you want to focus on just one website and work towards success with that. Just a suggestion, I see people getting overwhelmed when they try to manage two domains in the early stages.

You are doing great so far Mike and make some good progress. I would avoid FB ad campaigns until you truly know what is converting and make sure you register for the live class this week (week 1 of 5) that is going to be walking you through FB ads.

I'm sure some of you know this, but I didn't, at least until yesterday when I attempted to sign up for the Amazon Affiliate program.

Arkansas, Louisiana, Maine, Missouri, Rhode Island, and Vermont have "Amazon Laws" that basically don't allow these states to participate in the program(s) because Amazon won't collect and distribute taxes on sales. This supposedly also affects eBay.

Just a heads-up!
Reply

Apparently it's not affecting eBay since they signed me up...

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

I opted for "Basic Music Theory"
Mike
Reply
Kyle Premium
That still might be a bit broad. What type of music?

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that ______________.

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)
Reply
immistermike Premium
Hmm, well, to me, music theory applies to all music and deals with what makes music be music. It could possibly be a very broad subject, but due to the fact that most musicians avoid theory like the plague...

I had another idea and it has been a passion of mine for quite some time and that is Home Automation, especially for the disabled. Narrowed even further, it is Electronic Assistant. I even came across Amazon's product ECHO which is basically voice controlled. With correct interfaces it can control lights, ovens, a/c, outlets, you name it, all by voice. They even mention the benefit to those with disabilities. What do you think?
Reply
Kyle Premium
Sure, you know the space better than me Mike. If you want to head in the direction of music theory, by all means head in that direction. It sounds like something that you are definitely passionate about.:)

I stand corrected, brother! It turns out that there are subsets of Music Theory named Guitar (Fretboard) Theory. So that ended up being a pretty good whittle-down with lots of potential for future blogs.
