Twitter Lists - A great way to promote your site
Here's how to do it.
Click on your Twitter avatar and a drop down menu will appear.
Click on 'lists'.
Look for 'create new list' on the right hand side.
Give your list a name and describe what your list is about. Your description must encourage people to join your list....so make it as enticing as possible.
That's all there is to creating a list.
You now have to compile a list of market leaders in your sector. Just go to Google and put in a few keywords and you will soon have a list of market leaders.
Go back to Twitter and put the name of a market leader in the Twitter search box.
For example, one of my niches is 'retirement'. A market leader in this sector in the UK is Saga. So, for illustrative purposes, lets look at Saga's Twitter site.
Click on 'Lists' in the menu bar. At the time of writing there are eight lists.
Select a list which appears to be the most relevant....in this case 'Saga Lifestyle'
Once you have clicked on 'Saga Lifestyle' you can subscribe to it.
You then have access to a list of subscribers and a list of members who are interested in your marketplace.
By becoming a member of a list you can open a list of tweets posted by members on that list by visiting their Twitter accounts.
By becoming a subscriber to a list you can follow lists without following the individual users of that list.
You cannot post your tweets to a particular person or list.
Building a single list of key influencers in your market place has the following benefits....as well as being free!
- You can open their current offers and tweets very rapidly
- You can learn from the way they interact with their followers and adapt their methods to your own business
- Current news in your industry becomes readily available
- You are able to comment and retweet very easily
- Market leaders in your industry may retweet your tweets to a large number of followers, who are potential, warm customers
The best of luck with your list building!

I've looked everywhere on these twitter pages and I don't see anything that says "list" anywhere
Click on the little picture at the top right of your twitter homepage and a dropdown menu will appear. Then click on lists. The picture is either your logo or a picture of yourself. Thank you for your interest. Best of luck.
I am not finding a drop down menu that says "List" in Twitter. Can someone tell me where to find this?
Hi Suzette if you click on Twitter on your image profile a drop down menu will display with a list option included like in the picture I'm attaching to you. I hope it helps
I am not sure by what he means by getting "market leaders" from doing a google search. Can someone show a screenshot image please?
my google search gave me this.
It may not be the right answer to your question, but from what you asked, I tried this google search, based on it.

Thanks Iain I had no idea about this it has been really helpful I have been able to increase my reach within my niche massively just doing this once Great tip. Thanks again
Thanks. I didn´t know about this. I start already a list but where can I see my own list and how do I tweet in it?
I'll tell you what to do with it.. put me in it hahaha. I want to be in as many cool lists as possible, you know I think I put YOU in a list... my kickass WA something or other list.
I'm sorry, I don't understand the question! *feeling dumb*
In the list? Maybe a member is someone on the list and a subscriber is someone that wants to be subscribed to the list but not a member? Does that make sense?
What is the difference between these 2? My twitter is in dutch, but perhaps you see what I mean from the picture
Well if you are a member of the group then I think people can go and see who is in the group and it shows all the tweets from the members right? But if you are a subscriber I think you see the tweets and who is there but people don't see your tweets and stuff. I am not sure but I think that is what it is.
That's great! I had no idea this feature existed.
I am not using Twitter that much and by now the only thing I did is posting my latest posts (but with not much success as I have not enough followers to really make a difference)
I need to get more involved into Twitter and this seems like a great way to get more views and followers.
Thanks for sharing!
Ooh I was wondering about this... I started making some lists a little while ago and add some people into them but I had no idea what they were really for!
