Success Equals Knowing "Why!"
Why Do We Do What We Do?
I have heard it said by some great motivational speakers of the past that living life as a wandering generality is the best way to never accomplish anything. Those that go from day to day without a plan, living mediocre lives, have never figured out WHY they are doing what they do.
What about those that achieve great success? Do you think they had a compelling reason as to WHY they pursued success with such passion?
I would like to discuss these thoughts!
Most people come to Wealthy Affiliate (WA) with a dream of something better for themselves. They join the free starter course and engage the material to see if this place is for them before paying to be here. All sorts of emotions get stirred when they see numbers like making an extra $500 to $10,000 a month.
They learn that this sort of additional income, one that can eventually turn into a full time income, will take some time to develop. They hear that and think, "well I can do that faster if I just work sixty hours a week!"
They soon discover that no matter how much time they invest in the process, you can't speed up how things work in the online world. Online success takes time to germinate in order for a website to get recognized in the search engines. The website needs to grow and become a force in the niche it represents.
So, those that come looking for the fast buck give up quickly. They did not have a strong enough WHY! Wealthy Affiliate is not the place to be if you need cash now in order to make a living. That will take time. The cash will come if the work is put in to learn what is taught here in the certification and boot camp courses - no shortcuts!
WHY Do We Do What We Do?
The truth is we don't do anything in our lives unless we know WHY we are doing it. Remember when you were a kid and Mom asked you to do something? What was your response? "Why do I have to do that?"
If she was patient she would explain the value of what she was asking so you would buy into what she wanted, and perhaps how to do it as well. Her WHY became your WHY.
You see, knowing what to do and how to do something does not always mean that we will actually do it. What do you think really drives us to take action?
Yes, knowing WHY you are doing that thing that you want to do!
If I came to Wealthy Affiliate for a full time income through affiliate marketing, and I got started, but after three to six months did not see a dime, would I likely quit? Possibly.
But what if I had a compelling reason to be here! What if my desire was to help as many people as I could with my chosen niche, knowing that if I helped enough other people get what they want I would eventually have everything in life I want. Would that be a compelling enough WHY to keep me going when times get tough? What if I was passionate about what I do? Would that help also?
Some examples of setbacks I hear at WA:
- It's been a month and no page or post has been indexed!
- I can't seem to create enough content to write on my website!
- I can't do certain things because I am not good with computers!
- My Google analytics shows I only have had 10 visits this month!
- I am not making any money yet but I have been working at this constantly!
It's too hard, I am going to quit! Any of you have trial members that have expressed these thoughts to you? Have we seen these comments before from others? Sure.
These are natural things that will happen when working in the affiliate marketing and the online world. But, should that lead you to quit? If so, you need a bigger WHY!
Because, if you know WHY you are doing something, and it is so compelling that sometimes it keeps you up at night, then when the setbacks come and things are not going as you thought they should, or you wrestle with quitting, your strongly stated WHY will keep you going till success comes.
It just take a few small successes to prove that you are in the right place. If you persist, keep learning, have a plan, and know WHY you are doing what you are doing, the how to do it will come! The pieces of HOW to succeed at affiliate marketing are all here in WA!
Know your WHY and Success will come! Write it down and keep it in front of you on your dream board along with all the things you will have once you succeed.

I lived in Summit County, CO for 25 years and see that you were in Grand Junction. I opened COPY COPY in that area back in 1997. Maybe you know of it.
Howard, I love your statement, " if I helped enough other people get what they want I would eventually have everything in life I want." Achieving success without helping others will not make you happy. Helping each other on this journey toward financial freedom is what makes life worthwhile and it's something to be passionate about.

Hi Howard, this post has come at an appropriate time for me. I have had a shocker two weeks, unable to understand my current bootcamp lesson and little motivation, I had to walk away for a while, I was still active in the community, which I enjoy immensely. I am starting to lift a little now, got a few ideas formulating in my head and will blog post about the above shortly (have not done that for a while), but at NO point have I considered quitting, because "My WHY" is to make a better future for me and my husband. So thanks for your post and reminding me that it's ok to stumble every so often, as long as I remember "WHY" I'm doing this! Have good day.

So, you know WHY, and you know HOW to get there (WA), so WHAT will you do each day to achieve your Why? Once you have that question answered you will be on your way.
