Where can I find FREE photos for my site

I made a small site of my own personal pictures that are free for anyone to use. No pictures of people. Some pictures were also submitted by WA members. http://freeusepictures.siterubix.com You can use any you want with no problems. Also another member Canuck has a site that has his own photos as well to use.

Aw, thanks Stacy, I just checked and Alex's (@canuck) site is at http://freeforwa.siterubix.com/ and there's info. on it here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/free-images-for-wa-members :) Rich.

Thanks for finding his link. He has some very pretty pictures on there.

I have the answer for you I had the same problems and I had to take all my pictures down so as not to get in trouble. I searched for days trying to find pictures, but yes there is a website that you can get pictures royalty free and no copyrights it is called http://commons.wikimedia.org here they actually have 1000's of pictures to download in all kinds of categories that are free, most pictures even have a download in different sizes. The only ones you have to be careful of is some of the photographs of people. Just read the terms below on that page. no watermark either. look at my site most of my general pictures came from this site. http://fashiontossedsalad.com of course the other way and safest way is take your own pictures. This is another thing that I found out. If a person takes a picture of anything or anybody even though it may not have a protection of a legal copyright, in court it can be possibly considered a copyrighted material.because it is considered an original work of art sort of speak. Do not take pictures off line and just copy them this could get you in serious trouble. So I hope this helps a lot of you with this question and keeps you out of trouble.

Thanks Robert

Hey Robert, as with the majority of free images sources: "The Wikimedia Foundation does not provide any warranty regarding the copyright status or correctness of licensing terms. If you decide to reuse files from Commons, you should verify the copyright status of each image just as you would when obtaining images from other sources.". http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Reusing_content_outside_Wikimedia Rich.

I know nobody wants to hear this but, Rich is right. Why risk it?

Unfortunately, the majority of free images are not always "risk free". There's Microsoft, http://www.office.microsoft.com/en-gb/images but search using the Home tab, not the Images tab. It's worth checking to see if the BigStock offer is still open, https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/rich/blog/ok-this-is-disgusting-just-ugh which gets you 30 high resolution images for free. :) Rich.

What is the risk ? What will somebody do if you accidentally use the wrong photo?

It depends. 99.9% of the time you'll probably be OK. However, if the image is owned by a stock library or a company that licences images, then you may well receive a substantial bill for misuse, as a couple of Members have discovered to their cost. I myself subscribe to a service that files DMCAs against any websites that copy my images, which can damage their rankings. You'll find some major co's can file auto-actioned DMCAs that can entirely remove a site from a search engine's listings. It's worth bearing in mind, that like most free services, if you're not paying, you are the product. :) Rich.

You can also go to any search and type in " free pictures of ( whatever your looking for) then hit serch.

I've had fairly good luck with wikimedia commons. Even if I have to tweak it a bit, they have been quite useful. There are several sites that provide free photo's. Be sure that they are royalty free pictures. Do a search for free royalty free graphics or pictures and you'll find several options.

Hello Houndog, there are free images at http://www.freedigitalphotos.net, this is only if you want the small image (I find them big enough), you have to give attribution, I just place that under my image. When you click on the image you want it will take you to the page to download, you will see that down the right side. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, like most free image services, freedigitalphotos.net hide in their terms and conditions "FreeDigitalPhotos.net provides images supplied by the Contributors in good faith but without any responsibility that the Contributor is entitled to place the image on the website." http://www.freedigitalphotos.net/images/terms-and-conditions.php#terms14a Rich.

I still have the wordpress theme as my title on my web site, how do I change that?

Somewhere at the bottom. You can't miss it! :)

Where is settings at? still lost:&

When you're logged into your Wordpress site, it'll be on the left navigation towards the bottom. Right below Tools.

I hope you've found your way out. If you go to your dashboard, you'll find the settings all the way down below "tools". Feel free to ask if you need more help.

Settings > General and change the site title and/or tagline. :) Rich.

Thanks Rich, I got it changed

I am trying to register my domain name using "site rubix" but I can not, what am I doing wrong

That's exactly where my confusion came from, the word register. Let me ask in a different way, where are the free sites created at WA "registered"? What happens to them if I want to say, point them to a different DNS such as Hostgator, if that's even possible...

The free sites are owned by Kyle and Carson. When you go to create a free site on WA (using the "On a Free Domain" button, it is actually creating a subdomain on their siterubix.com server. You wouldn't be able to transfer that anywhere, i.e., Hostgator, etc. Sites that you own (yoursite.com, etc.) that were registered with Godaddy, Namecheap, etc., can be pointed to anywhere you choose including Hostgator or here at WA.

If you decide to host your domains here, then after you point them in your registrar (Godaddy, Namecheap) you then come back here and use the "On a Domain That I Own" button to tell WA that the DNS is now pointing to here and it will create the hosting for you.

Hope this explanation helps.
Best Regards,
Jim

...so, if I don't "register" with GoDaddy or similar place where you buy a domain name and then point the nameserver to WA my site won't go live? In that case might as well just get your own domain name and skip the trouble by then just creating a website in the "On a domain I own" tab. CONFUSED HERE AS WELL...

I may be confused as to what stage you are at. Do you already have a domain name? My confusion arose with the word register. If you already have a domain from a place like Godaddy, then you still need to tell Godaddy that you want to point it to WA. After it is pointing to WA then you need to use the "On a domain I own" button to create it here at WA.

Siterubix.com is owned by Kyle and Carson. When you create a free website here at WA, you attach a name like mysite.siterubix.com. To register your own site, you need to go to a service like GoDaddy.com or Namecheap.com and register your domain. You will then have something like, mysite.com or whatever it is. Then, once you register it, you need to change the nameservers to point to here at WA.

There is some training about that here:
https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/buying-domain-from-godaddy-changing-dns-nameserver-at-godaddy

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/moving-wordpress-site-from-one-host-to-another/

If you decide to go with namecheap.com, the process is probably similar buy I haven't used it myself.

Let me know if I cleared up your confusion on this.
Best Regards,
Jim

One further thing I forgot to mention. Once you change your nameserver on either namecheap or godaddy, you need to create a new website using the "On a Domain I Own" button and then enter the appropriate domain details there.
