Traffic Recovery & My 2020 Plan

Traffic Recovery & My 2020 Plan

After a great summer of traffic last year, my traffic started declining in the fall with a huge dip in December. I am pleased to say that I am seeing things pick back up in January. You can see in the chart above how much of a decline I had throughout the month of December. But this isn't even including my summer traffic, where I peaked. So I'm still down overall, but I'm optimistic that I'm moving in the right direction.

Google accounts for about 50% of my traffic. The other traffic comes from Social, mostly Pinterest.

One interesting thing I have noticed in my work to recover my traffic is that the more effort I put in to boosting Pinterest, I seem to get higher Google searches, too. I guess there is something to be said for Google ranking content better that is shared on social media! Reason I like putting work into Pinterest is because the gain is almost guaranteed. So often I feel like I do all I can for SEO but it doesn't always benefit me. Pinterest SEO/traffic is an easier beast to tackle (in my opinion), and my niche is very Pinterest-friendly.

My sales have picked up again, too, so I am feeling pretty good right now after feeling demoralized last month. :)

I watched the recording of Jay's Affiliate Marketing Predictions for 2020 video this morning, as well as a Neil Patel video where he talked about strategies that skyrocketed his traffic in 2019. I took a bunch of notes and am creating a plan. Here are my official goals as follows:

1) Create (at least) one Youtube video a week. If it would not match my current article I'm writing, create one for older content to help optimize and drive more traffic to it.

2) Post once a day to Instagram to grow my brand (barely posting at all right now!)

3) Continue updating older content as I learn new info. I have already seen this pay off.

4) Look into translating content into other languages. I need to learn a lot more about this and look at my traffic by country to see if it would benefit.

5) Figure out a tool of some sort I could host on my website to gain and retain visitors.

6) Check out niche specific magazines for new content ideas.
