Hi Holly. As everyone says, stick to one, BUT I made the 'rookie' mistake of starting 3, yes, 3. I think when I first joined, I thought that if I created a domain, I had to create a website. Wrong! So yes, I struggle to keep up with three websites (even now). I have since created many new domains but have not created websites for them.

In retrospect, I would have stuck with just one. My dilemma now is that I have difficulty coming up with fresh content, and two of them are still very popular niches that aren't likely to go away any time soon. When I look for fresh ideas, I see the same articles over and over again—frustrating!

But I digress. You have to do what you feel is comfortable and best for you, but if your goal is to make money, I would stick to just one (if I had to do it over again). Yes, I have made some money (@ParthaB), but nowhere near what I would like).

Oh, I am also very stubborn and hate to admit that maybe I need to let two of the websites go. I just can't bring myself to do that.

I am sure you will make the right decision! All the best.

Mary Ann

Wow thank you so much for sharing your experience! Really appreciate your insight.

You are welcome, Holly.

Hello Holly

As Partha and others have said here stick with the one website for now. I made the mistake of starting too many websites when I should have focused on my main one.

Earlier this year I bought 5 new domains here on WA and built a website on each one. I also have a 6th website here on WA which is the very first I ever got online from back in 2019 when I joined WA for the first time.

I also have my main business website hosted outside of WA. Why did I start extra websites? Because I have a fair bit of experience with websites and I was running out of ideas and wanted to work on something different that I enjoy but this was a mistake.

I built my new websites wrote some content on 2 of them and choose themes for the rest and then said to myself I'll work more on them next week. That was in May 2023 and fast forward to now I haven't touched them since.

I took a few weeks break due to health issues and family dramas and when I came back I started working on my main business website again because that's the one I prefer to work on. So what I'm saying is rushing into making a second website or more before you are actually ready will lead you to failure as it has with me.

I have made no money and get no traffic to my other websites. As for my main business website I get a small amount of traffic and no money. This is my fault because I was not being consistent enough and I know consistency is key. Now that I'm back into doing things full time I will be focusing all my time and effort into my main business website and being as consistent as I can.

Once I see success with it and start making some money with it I will return to my other websites and start working on them. As for your extra energy I recommend pursuing something else related to your niche that would be relevant to have on your website and write articles about that.

It may also be a good idea to make a plan for what you want to achieve with your website and how you are going to do it. I also advise you try using a content calendar every month which is where you plan what content you are going to work and publish on what date, This is something I want to start doing myself and I'm looking into.

Finally I wanted to say the choice is yours but I recommend sticking with the website you have got and please be sure to consider all aspects of your goals before making a decision. I learned the hard way but you don't have to. I hope this helps you and makes sense. I wish you all the best with your business and all the best with WA going forward. All the best to your success.

Regards

Timothy

Thank you so much. This is exactly what I was looking for - people who have tried it. Taking your advice on board!

Hello Holy

You're very welcome. I'm glad I was able to help you. If you ever need a hand or if you have any questions let me know. I will be more than happy to help you out. I wish you all the best with your website and your online endeavors. All the best to your success.

if you have endless energy to produce posts then produce them all for the one site and get a ton of content on there....
this will get you results a lot quicker ( as long as it is good content and indexable) than starting a second site or more at the moment...
what you can look at is what your niche is about and maybe extend it more, if you think you need ot work on a second site... this way you are capturing a wider audience for one site and gaining more credit with google...thiskn of the extension as a second site and plan it accordingly...
i didn't read Partha's reply, normally too long and no tldr: at the start ... but i guess he says stick with one site.....

Yes, thank you so much.

Hey Holly,

I would hazard a guess that there at least a few hundred thousand members, past and present, who started a 2nd website (typically in the make money niche) within their first 3 months of being here.

Of the past members, I would also hazard a guess that less than 0.1% are still active members or even have a website online.

Of the present members, some who may respond. they will tell you things are going really well.

Are they making a living, are they making ANY income?

Unlikely.

Are they happy?

Perhaps.

It really depends on what you're looking to gain out of this experience.

I am guessing that the vast majority of people who come here WANT TO EARN MONEY!

For me, those who start creating lots of different websites at this early stage have (unconsciously/subconsciously) GIVEN UP on making money!

That's right, and they don't even realise it yet.

Okay, when it comes to starting a second website so early in journey.

How do you know if what you're doing on your second website is CORRECT if you haven't tasted any success on your first website?

Unfortunately, Affiliate Marketing and Making Money Online is NOT simply about following a set of instructions and then being guaranteed results.

I have likened this to building furniture purchased from Ikea.

It's NOT the same online, we are dealing with real people, so nothing will be "linear", i.e. just because you've done this, this will occur, and because you've done that, this will occur, etc. life simply doesn't work like that!

Secondly, I think I'm literally one of a smal minority here who say this, but I honestly don't believe members should be promoting the make money online niche so early in their journey.

It's basically saying, "Here's my website where I will teach you how to make money online... oh btw, I've never made any money online".

Doesn't sound great, does it?

Sure, I'm all for, "Watch over my shoulder as I learn something new and you can learn along with me".

THIS is my mind is fantastic, and one of the best ways to start a website in a niche you have very little knowledge about.

This is NOT what most people do when they start a new Make Money Onlien website with NO EXPERIENCE.

Literally, every article written is passing themselves off as an expert in the subject they are talking about..

Hmmmm...

Realistically, forget timescales, forget "numbers of articles", you want to see things happening with your first website, so you KNOW things are working, and now you can replicate this same system.

I could say 3-6 months to you, I could say 150+ articles first, but as I've mentioned, "linear progression" isn't really a thing.

It's a business where we are dealing with human beings and also artificial intelligence (ranking in the search engines).

So, someone could write 150 truly awful articles that don't provide any further help or innovation to what's already out there.

Someone could spend 12 months working away on a website, but not really udnerstanding the concepts.

For both of these examples, it is NOT TIME to move onto a 2nd website.

What most people are actually doing here is abandoning their first website because it feels too difficult, so starting a second website seems better because somehow the expectation is it's going to be easier "because I'm more knowledgeable than I was when I first started" (BUT, you've just abandoned your first website - trust me, this WILL happen, you will much prefer writing on one of your websites than the other, ALWAYS).

If you want me to be really, really, really honest, sure your first website may not be a home run, you may have picked the incorrect niche for YOU.

BUT

Once you are finally settled on something that you truly enjoy, spend TWO YEARS working on that website.

YEP, you read that correctly.

I can guarantee that as long as someone UNDERSTANDS THE BASIC PRINCIPLES, sticks to producing LOTS of content, and ENHANCES their knowledge daily (outside of the WA platform too), there's no way you won't be earning a decent living.

Guess what? Most people DON'T Do this!!

Learning Stops. Shiny Object Syndrome Takes Over. The Reality of Earning a Living DIES!

If you're not making miney at this stage (and plenty don't), then it goes back to the famous Einstein saying about "repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results = Insanity"

The point being, you have to learn to do things correctly FIRST and see the results for yourself before you can REPEAT the same process elsewhere.

What I would say is that if your mind needs to be active, and you need to do different things, you can still work on one website, but have differing tasks.

Monday and Tuesday - Keyword Research and write as many articles as you can WITHOUT publishing.

Wednesday - Put all the articles together including images, videos, links, etc. and publsih.

Thursday - An Entire Facebook Day. Create images/videos, write short blurbs, promoting your articles, Join a couple of relevant groups, add some people as friends, get involved in conversations (which will actually broaden your knowledge on various subjects).

Friday - An Entire Pinterest Day, Create pins for your blog posts. promote, start following a few people, visit "successful" Pinterest accounts in your niche, see what type of pins they're adding, what are their descriptions like, can you learn anything from the way they are doing things? Take notes, see how they write their Pinterest descriptions. What hashtags are they using? What Does their website look like? Can you replicate some of the good stuff on their website in your own voice? Do you need to completely redo your own Pinterest page, do you ned to focus on different articles on your won website from what you've now discovered, etc.

Weekend off.

Following week = repeat.

I do totally get what you;re saying and where you're coming from.

However, do you know what the main factors are that lead to success and freedom?

Being disciplined, boring, and consistent.

That is it.

Sounds a bit like an oxymoron, but DISCIPLINE & CONSISTENCY are the main factors that allow for FREEDOM.

You could still work on ONE website and complete a different task every single day if you really wanted to.

But, my advice would be to stick to that ONE website until you see some semblance of success.

I've seen far too many people with 3-10 websites ALL of which are producing NOTHING!

Great! Yes, they are far more knowledgeable that their day one, BUT, on their day one their intention was to join Wealthy Affiliate to MAKE MONEY ONLINE - The dream has now died, but at least they have 10 websites with about 20 articles each, NO rankings, NO traffic, and NO money!

Are they being true to THEMSELVES? (rhetorical)

Hey, just my opinion, you are your own person, you must do what you believe is best for YOU!

Partha

Thank you for your insights! Really appreciate it.

My first website feels easy so far. I learn extremely quickly. It's a niche I'm very passionate about, and have been for several years, and would do the blog for free to serve my clients/audience (it's also my coaching niche where I make my day-job income).

I've also done various side hustles over the years as a stay-at-home mum, some of them successful some of them not so much. When I started coaching I put my all into it and now that it's well-established, I want to broaden my skills and have another stream of income - I don't need it to make money right away but it would be great if it did eventually.

I definitely prefer to do one article all the way through, but you've inspired me to explore how I could meet my multi-faceted nature in different ways, even in my content within this niche.

Thanks again!

What is your "coaching niche"?

If it's something I know, I can give you a little "business plan" (me writing words in a reply, LOL) now, which will enhance you brand, reach, and expertise... AND it will keep that multi-faceted mind satisfied!

Ooh thanks! It's Unschooling (child-led learning without school).

Okay, your best NON-Website promotion for Unschooling are

Quora

AND

Facebook

(See how quickly I did that research? You're not the only one whose mind likes to work on 10,000,000 things at the same time, LOL).

Okay, for Quora you need to set up your profile with the BASICS (keep it short and sweet).

Profile Photo
Add Qualifications in the Desired Place, as well as your website url.

Description - Hi, I'm Holly, Founder and Owner @ (website name).

I have working and coaching clients in Unschooling for XXX number of years.

Here's my 5 most popular blog posts

AND then add links to those blog posts in your profile.

Next, go here (just click the link):

THE LINK DOESN'T APPEAR TO WORK

Go to the Google Search bar and type in

Quora + Unschooling

https://www.google.com/search?gs_ssp=eJzj4tLP1TdIyrUoMSxSYDRgdGDwYi0szS9KBABI_QY3&q=unschooling

Find Questions that have a decent number of replies (say 10+) and with at least a few people "following" the question (minimum 3-4).

Answer the questions in Blog post format.

Include a Featured Image (this will make your "answer" far more noticeable than everyone else's) and a relevant video, aim to answer the question in 600-800 words.

If you feel you can go more into detail, DO IT.

Plus, keep a note of the questions that you feel you could go into a lot of detail about.

USE THESE for fresh articles for your website as well.

Blogging is NOT, "Hmmm, let me find a keyword that I can hopefully rank for WITHOUT doing any NICHE RESEARCH"

Blogging IS - Find out what your target audience are talking about and what they ACTUALLY want to know (don'[t guess), and provide content to satisfy their queries.

How perfect is Quora for doing this?

Aim to "answer" 3-5 Quora questions on your "Quora Day".

DO NOT have any links to your website within your answers UNTIL you have hit around 50 ANSWERS.

Then, Only add a link from within your content every 10 ANSWERS.

Eventually, your BRAND will become known on Quora, people will visit your profile, if you provide helpful answers they WILL click through to your website.

It's just a case of BUILDING UP THAT TRUST FIRST.

Find GROUPS that have a fair few members, CREATE a Facebook Business page (search on YouTube for how to do this), link to your website within your Facebook page, share the content from your website on your Facebook page.

Join at least THREE groups, and start adding some of these members as friends (no more than 5-10 a day, and SPACE THEM OUT, 2 at 10am, 2 at 1pm, 2 at 4pm, etc.)

Join in the conversations, ask questions, answer questions WITHOUT a hint of self-promotion.

Do this on each and every FACEBOOK DAY that you decide to have.

Finally, video shorts would be great in this niche, and you do not need to make the videos yourself.

Go to one of the FREE image sites, such as Pixabay.

In the search bar you have the option to search for VIDEOS.

Look for videos that have been shot by drone.

Search for somethig like

Drone Scenery

Once you have the video, which will probably just be silent, but with an aerial view of something like a mountain, a lake, a city, etc.

It just looks very motivational and liberating.

Download the video and go to Canva and create Pinterest and TikTok videos using the video you have just downloaded.

You can then add text to these videos (they don't need to be longer than 10 seconds).

The text should be ONE TIP pertaining to something about unschooling:

example:

"Give Your Child Love, Surround Them With All Kinds of Text, and They Will Learn to Read"

So, on your "Pinterest and TikTok Day" you are creating 3-5 videos like this and then uploading them to those platforms.

And the rest of your time YOU'RE WRITING BLOG POSTS.

"Working on your website" doesn't always have to be the same, boring task.

And success is all about Traffic, so using different sources for traffic generation is fantastic.

What will eventually happen is that you'll really like perhaps 1-2 of these methods, and absolutely hate the others.

DO the things that bring in you joy!

It's all about getting your name, your brand, your knowledge and expertise out to the masses!

If you need help with creating any of the above, just ask.

I'll probably ignore you, and then Diane, who answered below, will be kind enough to provide you the answers once I've manipulated her to do so!!!

Hahahahahaha!!

Partha

Hi - I understand where you are coming from, as I am the same and always have multiple projects on the go at one time.

But when building a website, you need to get as much content on it as soon as you can to build up trust and authority with Google.

Let's say you can write 20 posts per month.

Then it's better to have all 20 posts on one site rather than 10 each on two different sites.

Otherwise, it will take you twice as long to see any success with either site.

Plus, you need to know that you have fully understood the process and that your first site is capable of ranking highly and attracting traffic.

Realistically, you need to give it six months to be able to determine that.

If it turns out you are doing something fundamentally wrong with your first site, then you don't want to repeat any mistakes on your second site.

But at the end of the day, it's your decision, and many people give up at the 3 month stage.

That's the most disheartening time, when it feels as though nothing is happening.

So, if starting another site gets you over the 3 month hurdle and regenerates your motivation, then go ahead!

This is incredibly helpful, thank you Diane!

So would you say at a minimum to wait 3 months before starting a new site (provided I've produced lots of posts for my first one)?

I am probably looking at around 20 posts per month currently, maybe slightly more.

I am too, but you do not want to drive yourself thin.

The recommendation is to focus on ONE site starting out as it takes lots of effort and work get it going, however once you know what you are doing, then the learning curve would be less steeper to scale up.

Thank you! I'm totally aware of the general advice to focus on one website :) Just looking to hear from people who haven't followed that advice (whether it turned out well or not so well!)

Perhaps I'm not explaining clearly, I'm looking to hear from people who have started early on with two websites, whether it worked well or didn't.

I love to learn from people who have experienced it for themselves. Not to compare myself to them but to learn from their experience of actually doing it.

I totally get that it's advised to start with one.

I tried to sign up with AWIN and I was sent an email saying they would need to see more quality posts on my website before they will even accept me. Is this a common thing? It'

Hi Holly,

It's good they gave you specific feedback as to what they want to see, as that is not always the case. And the solution here is a simple one, you just need to create more content on your site, then re-apply.

Ideally, I would focus on creating a couple dozen posts and make sure the site has all the foundational elements in place (About, privacy, contact pages) and then re-apply, as this shows Awin (and other affiliate networks) that you are someone who is focused on giving your audience value with your content and that you know how to drive traffic to the affiliate offers they have in their network.

Tim

hello,
I didn't have any issues getting approved by Awin , but I wrote a lot more posts before I apllied than just 5. I would try again after about 50 posts. Good luck!

i always say do two posts when kyle says do one - as this will help build out your site...
think of it from their point of view ..
your site is new and has very little content on it...why would they let you promote their marketers...
i would get to 15-20 posts indexed - not jsut written..and ideally have some traffic before applying for any affilaite programs...
this shows them that you are serious and are going to stick around for a bit...and they get more of a look at what your site could become...
make sure you have the legal pages in force before applying...
affilaite disclaimer, privacy policy, about me ( not a requirement but they see you are real), copyright, cookie policy - maybe part of the privacy policy - a reasonable menu and lots of useful information targeting your niche...
and depending on your niche - medical disclaimer or financial disclaimer...

Thank you. That makes total sense, but I was just following the training to the letter as I figured it would be the correct advice.

it used to be - it does need a bit of updating ...
the concept is still very valid and a process of creating posts on a specific niche will still get you ranked highly in google over time...
but keep asking questions...
and if you do stall create a new post while you wait for responses ...nothing beats content...

I assumed there was a reason to space out the posts a little, but I'll get right on it. Bursting with content ideas! Once I have a bunch more posts I'll let AWIN know. Thanks for your help.
