Assessing 2017 And Setting 2018 Goals.

Happy New Year everybody!

The other day @DShensky suggested that instead of seeing goals we did not achieve in 2017 as failures, we look at how far we progressed in them. Here is her original post on the topic: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.co...

I said I'd use that method to go over the goals I set in 2017 and in setting or re-setting goals for 2018.

So that is what I have just done today, New Year's Day. I worked out a percentage for each of the eight goals I set for myself and then my overall score for 2017. I then set new goals for 2018.

This is how it looks:

Assessment of 2017 Goals

1. Online business = 10% :(

2. Finance = 50%

3. Summer Holiday Plans = 100% :)

4. Physical workouts = 92%

5. Reading (24 books) = 96% (Well, I read one book TWICE, but the goal was to read 24 different books!

6. Academic = 66%

7. Chess = 33%

8. Japanese Mahjong = 100% :)

MY TOTAL ACHIEVEMENT RATING FOR 2017 = 68.25%

That's not too bad, but clearly, I missed my online business goals by a long shot. Actually, last January my websites on a CHEAP HOSTING SERVICE were hacked, so I spent quite a bit of time re-establishing my online presence with new websites securely hosted here on SiteRubix.com.

2018 Goals

1. Online business = 50% higher than the 2017 goals

2. Finance = Same as 2017 goals

3. Summer Holiday Plans = Pretty much as 2017

4. Physical workouts = 25% higher than 2017 goals

5. Reading (24 books) = Same as 2017 (excluding chess book reading!)

6. Academic = Pretty much as 2017 goals.

7. Chess = Same as 2017

8. Japanese Mahjong = one extra goal added (aim to be in the top 3 in a competition...)

So, now it's time to get down to work and see if I can hit my #1 goal this year (online business building) and see if all the rest fall into place as well.

It's going to be a challenging and exciting year, but I'm glad I'm starting it with all my blogs set up inside Wealthy Affiliate.

All the best to everybody at WA.

David Hurley

Wow David, what an interesting balance to your life and focus. I wouldn't really have thought of sectoring things out that way, but it makes perfect sense. A very positive way to assess and re-assess, moving forward. Thanks for the inspiration! Blessings, Sue

You are welcome, Sue! Happy New Year!

great goals to set and I like that you assessed your accomplishments for the last year because you can applaud your successes and know what areas you need to improve on

Thank you. Yes, it was a very good year in spite of business trials. Actually, my online business pays for itself, and my set-up is much better now than this time last year, so I am looking forward to better business results this year.

Progressive vs reflective goals are always a better success indicator David!

Hi Mike,

Tell me more!

I don't understand whether you mean progressive goals are better than reflective goals, or whether a method that compares progressive and reflective goals is better, or even what those two terms mean!

Well, I guess "progressive goals" are goals that increase in scope as progress is made...? Am I on the right track?

Thanks!

Be planning ahead rather than totally looking back!

Got it! So my first interpretation was correct.

Well, I've finished looking back already, and am now looking forward and chasing my 2018 goals, with 364.33 days left in the year according to Tokyo Time. :)

Wrong Mr. Spock! 364.25 days LOL!

That makes very good sense David working on our goals even if we don't achieve as much as we would like to, every step we take is a step in the right direction.
