I had the understanding that my domains would be included with my websites. Please let me know if I need to go purchase my domains aside from my prime membership.

Congrats on joining Wealthy Affiliate. As a new member, You get 2 free subdomains hosted by Wealthy Affiliate. You have an option to choose your own domain hosted elsewhere.
Other optionals:
You can transfer domains to WA from other registrars to site domains here at wa. THIS IS A VERY QUICK PROCESS, ITallows you to use all of the domain features offerred here at Wa.
You can point domains registered outside of WA to WA servers and host your website. To do this just update your domain.

To wrap it all up.
As a free member here at WA, you get 2 siterubix subdomains (Ex: yourdomain.siterubix.com). You do not pay anything for these.
As a premium member, you get 25 siterubix subdomains (Ex: yourdomain.siterubix.com). You do not pay anything for these.
And you are able to host 25 own domain (Ex: yourdomain.com). But you must buy the domain. Each domain is paid yearly and it costs about 14$. You can buy your own domain here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/domains

you can create a free siterubix domain but that is in fact a subdomain. for example: myname.siterubix.com and you get 2 of those for free with the starter membership. They are a great tool to work on developing your niche and playing around with the development of a site.
But eventually, you would find much better success in owning your own domain example: myname.com at which point you could point the free siterubix domain that you created to your own domain.
The short answer to your question is eventually you would have to buy a domain, but then you own that domain, it is like buying a piece of real estate in cyber space.
