At this stage of the course you have chosen your niche. Now we are going to show you how to take this niche and create your very own website... for FREE within Wealthy Affiliate :)

First we want to explain the difference between a Free website and a website that you OWN.

Your Own Website vs. A Free Website

Having your own domain name is ideal and gives you a huge competitive advantage when it comes to succeeding online. For example, if you owned your own domain it would look something like this...

www.yourwebsite.com

To host your own websites here, you have to be a Premium member.

When starting out it is not 100% necessary as we do provide TWO free websites to you as a Starter member. At Wealthy Affiliate we have one of the top Website Builders in the world called SiteRubix (you find it under the SiteRubix link in the main menu). This allows you to easily install both free websites and if you are a Premium member, websites on your own domain.

You can actually register domains here within Wealthy Affiliate as well through the SiteDomains platform as both a Starter or Premium member.

Today you are going to create a free website targeted to the niche that you have chosen in the previous lesson.

Choosing Your Domain Name...

When you create a free website today, you will choose a siterubix.com extension (subdomain). I suggest choosing something that is highly relevant to your niche.

For example, if your niche was "Macbook Air Cases", your domain name would be:

macbookaircases.siterubix.com

And your website name would be:

Macbook Air Cases

As a Free member here at Wealthy Affiliate, you get 2 free websites, so If you make a mistake initially, you can always choose another one in the future and you can delete ones that you don't want. In other words you can install/delete over and over again and have up to 2 websites hosted on our state of the art web hosting for absolutely nothing. They are free!

***As a Premium member of Wealthy Affiliate you to host up to 50 websites (25 own domains, 25 free .siterubix.com websites) on our state of the art "managed" wordpress hosting platform. This includes unlimited email accounts, free SSL, , premium monitoring and security, access to our SiteComments, SiteHealth, and SiteFeedback platforms and 24/7/366 website support.... meaning you can create an army of successful sites for one or many niches!

Task 1: Watch the Video on Setting up Your Website using SiteRubix

Task 2: Set-up Your Website Using SiteRubix

Go with something you really like doing. Don't feel it's too "stupid" or that it seems too odd to make a website about, with 6 billion people around the world we always find a similar interest.

If you like taking a walk on the beach, maybe consider doing stuff on beaches and which ones have the best views, best sand/water color.. etc. Or if you're like me I did a DIY site, where I am not constrained like some of the other DIY sites. I found something that interested me, found an issue (that I felt DIY involved more things than just cooking and craftes) and I improved on it.

You'll get it!

Hi Jasmin - think about what you have a passion for - write down these things. Then think about the list you may have produced - then try ranking those things - then ask yourself could you write about this topic &/or read about it without ever getting bored? That should lead you to an idea of what may be a good niche for you. You can then hone it down further by thinking about where you live &/or where or how you interact with your niche already.

It is a learning process - if you pick a niche you love - all the hardwork becomes easier thereafter. Hope this helps - Harjinder

My non-financial goals are:
In 10 days, learn as much as I can from WA, get an affiliate marketing website up and running. More importantly than that, have a great time on my birthday in two days' time!

In 30 days, spend less time hustling for work and more time on myself, getting more exercise and writing more (I'm doing course on short story writing).

In six months, have enough free time to be able to concentrate on my writing full time.

In a year's time I'd like to have the book I am working on published.

Hi Anderson, you need to make sure you have 3 things going on here.

1 your pages are published and not still in draft mode http://easywpguide.com/wordpress-manual/saving-and-publishing-content/

2 and 3 You need to have a menu setup and added to the 'Manage locations' http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-add-navigation-menu-in-wordpress-beginners-guide/ because some themes have multiple menu points so WP needs to be told which goes where for it to appear in the appropriate place.

Post back if this does not help so we can try something else to get you back on track.

Best wishes

See if it works in a different browser, it works here ok.

If you get the same result in a different browser it could be a routing and network issue either at your end, your ISPs networking/DNS, or delivery of content for WA, aka, CDN...

If you are able to browser in a different browser then clear the other browsers cache to see if this helps connect, the browser cache could be corrupted for example.

Always have dreamed of a personal website and within days the dream will come true. What an accomplishment to be able to link around the world in real time and see reaction & results from my coffee table. Astonishment and so gratifying that I can independently do business and prosper at a rate much faster than a hotdog stand or some lost storefront with taxes to pay.
Six months from now will determine how strong my online foundation is and how I can further develop the framework to support personal independent living style from home or on the road.

ready? click on your domain in Godaddy, and then click on settings and nameservers and then manage. Where you go from here is where you put this info in. NS1.MYWAHOSTING.COM
NS2.MYWAHOSTING.COM You will have to click on the custom button first then replace the godaddy nameservers with the above. Then click save. I think that is all. Then wait for an email and you will be good to go today.

https://uk.godaddy.com/help/set-custom-nameservers-for-domains-registered-with-godaddy-12317

I know these are UK links but the process is the same.

When did you purchase your domain? And was it ever hosted a GD? Is your domain name already pointed at hosting elsewhere? Or have pointed your domain to GD from somewhere else.

DNS hosting only usually means 'offsite DNS' which indicates that your site could already directed either to or from GD, thogh there could be another explanation.

If you cannot find what you need then contact GD tech support and explain what you are trying to achieve.

Do the lessons, you will find most of what you seek inside...though to be fair, some of it, you won't see until Lvl 2 training/lessons onwards, which you will not have access to unless you move to premium membership.

Alternatively, you can google or bing your question if you have not done so already. Everything in here is out there too, but of course, it also means you have to sift through it yourself.

You do not need to do training for affiliate programs generally, you just need to join and have some traffic coming to your website in order to benefit from them.

By the way, How many levels of training are on the Premium side?
Reply

For theOnline Entrepreneur Certification, there are 5 courses of 10 lessons each, so another 40 lessons beyond what you are able to see in your trial period.

For the Affiliate Bootcamp, there is a total of 7 phases, each with about 10 lessons per phase.

There are no shortcuts when you are learning new things. If you miss out chunks, you generally miss something fundamental, this can have a huge negative impact on your success in the long term.

You know this is true, you are a seasoned and accomplished academic already, so you understand the nature of progressive learning and building on foundations.

I believe you will do well with this program and the knowledge you gain from it, your background has given you a solid foundation and an understanding of the learning process itself, from which you can springboard into a new direction such as this.

Best wishes

You can search common privacy policy pages on google documents - under forms. it should give you a list of example layouts you just have to be sure to insert your domain name and your email address every place it needs to be inserted. Most privacy policies state pretty much the same thing. its a copy and paste ordeal just make sure not to keyword it and keep it from appearing in the search. Review the video....... before you publish

Reply

hey pat, your site is based on a niche, which will include your main keyword(s)
each post or page will also have it's own keyword(s), but will be related to your niche.
so to answer your question with another - how many pages or posts are you going to do?
no seriously, you will be using keywords for each post/page and trying to solve problems within your niche.
the main thing to remember is to very helpful within your niche and review products. if the products will solve problems within your niche then brilliant, market these to social media.
if you can go up to premium there is a lot more information in the higher level courses.
good luck with your online journey

I don't know that I recall ever reading anything about how many key words. I think that is up to you. You can use phrases like your web page title which is more than 1 word in itself. Wealthy Affiliates is 2 words but it holds Leverage of how many people in this association and their content and websites as well. So those 2 words alone carry a lot of leverage, The key word tool is going to give you most searched words in a phrase...... Like Great it is one word its just how it is used in your niche...... So I might say Great Balls of Fire My business is exploding...... or Wealthy Affiliates offers a Great Training Course at little to no cost it certainly has held its weight in gold. They have a Fantastic learning plan that you can follow at your own pace...... A community of wonderful members with Great response time to your questions in live chat. If Great is a key word it doesn't matter how it is used you will rank on it even if they are searching for the song Great Balls Of Fire just because you key worded that particular phrase and the word itself.
Hence they stumble on your website completely by accident. I do know that in a video or a lesson it was recommended to use your keywords at least 1 time per every 200 words of text in your content.
Sometimes 1 word even if it is used in different phrases starts to sound a little redundant to me so I switch to the thesaurus and the dictionary and find the noun, verb and other meanings for that word. as well as a replacement word for it.... Great can mean Huge or Fantastic depending on how it is used in the sentence...... then I keyword those substitute words as well..... I hope this helps
Reply
RDonaghy Premium
You should not fill your content full of keywords, Google doesn't like that. 2-3 good keywords for each page/post should work well.

Hi guys. Maybe I am jumping the gun here but I just have a few questions before I go ahead and create a website. The niche I choose I am very passionate about and I could write a lot of content about it. The niche I choose has a ton of sub niches. Do I create a website based upon the niche and then create sub domains for my sub niches or would I be better creating my site based on a sub niche within my niche?
Reply
PositivLyfe Premium
Hey there! I would recommend starting with the sub-niche. Over time, you can grow each sub-niche and build your brand! Then maybe you can focus on creating an overall niche site linking to your sub-niches. I just know that I've previously tried to create a website that covered a very broad niche and was completely unsuccessful because everything just felt all over the place. I hope this was helpful and good luck to you!
Ashley
Reply
kyle8379 Premium
i would get a domain that you could potentially use for the broader niche, but pick one sub-niche to start and thoroughly cover it to build traction. you don't need to create subdomains (though you could) but do think about site structure, which could either be through hierarchical pages or just by tagging and categorizing blog posts.
Reply
mgonzal Premium
So Kyle has asked us for at least 5 keywords related to our niche? I have found a lot more than that, which I'm not sure what is a good range for keyword searches when building my website?
Reply
Afrocatz85 Premium
Five to start with is good, but you want pretty much each post to target a keyword, so think how many posts you are going to write, which is probably going to be a lot. So, five for now, but you're going to need a lot more, Thanks Sean
Reply
How broad/narrow a focus do I need for my website/products that I plan on selling in future. For e. G. can I be as broad as Finance being the niche? Or should I narrow it down more specifically to Retirement Planning, Buying Insurance, etc.?
Reply

Finance definitely would be too broad. You have to narrow it down, I think it has nothing to do with your plans to sell a website in the future. The basics are the same.

When searching keywords in Laaxy, does "<10" mean that there is less than 10 searches per month? That would be my assumption, but I wanted to be clear on my understanding.
Reply
ericcantu Premium
Yes. That's exactly what that means. Sometimes a very specific query will get that result. Try making your keyword a little less specific and you'll find the sweet spot.
Reply
mgonzal Premium
Do you think it would be risky if I were to ever pursue keywords that have less than 10? More specifically if that search brings up 0 QSR?
Reply
ericcantu Premium
I think the best ones to go after when you start off are ones that have atleast *some* traffic. Maybe it's 25 searches a month, maybe it's 30. And then finding QSRs in the teens and twenties. That's the low hanging fruit Kyle talks about in the training. You could probably search that in the search bar up top if you haven't read it yet.

Even with 0 competition, if no one is searching for something, what's really the point right?

Better to have your focus keyword atleast pull some consistent traffic. Once you have a little momentum, you can start going after any keyword that has 100 traffic and less than 100 QSR. You'll see your traffic go from a trickle to a stream.

That's my thinking and strategy anyway.
Reply
mgonzal Premium
Awesome, thanks for the advice. I agree about the risk of not seeing much if any traffic? I'll take your approach to build up a base and work from there. Maybe once I get a following, I can sneak in on those "0" QSR's?

You just write them down for example on a paper, in a word dokument or something like that. These goals are just for yourself so you can have look at them now and then and that helps you keep on track achieving your goals. These goals are not published to the WA Community. If you would like to do it, then I suppose you could do a Blog Post and send to your WA-friends, but it is not a must.
Hope this helped you further.

I am going through the whole course again. When I started, I was all over the show as there was so much information and I was jumping around like a headless chicken. I now have all my ducks in a row and can follow the lessons in a structured way.

Thanks for that and I'll definitely keep that to learn from. It was actually on the training for Kyle's About Me that I got the 404 error when I tried to read it..

If I am not mistaken, you get access to forum members for 7 days during your trial period. After that, you will have to be a premium member. Premium membership is $19 for the first month.

As your other commenters indicate, you can post for help on the forums and you are still able to utilise your free sites.

You will not, however, have access to any lessons beyond Lvl 1 and you will not be able to send any messages to anyone in PM.

If you are still not sure, then as suggested, if you can afford it, take the $19 offer and this will give you another month to figure out if the WA Premium is for you or not.

Best wishes

Hi, Everyone!
I would like to hear from a few folks that have had some success so far and how you're doing it. (Brief comments please)
Thanks, Sam!

Hi Sam you are able to read success story's from many members. Go to your "activity dashboard" and click on "activity" there you will see a tab that says "success". They are encouraging to read and many left my jaw dropped.

Kyle instructs us to create three initial pages for our website. He explains how to compose the "About Me" page and the "Privacy Page" but leaves us hanging about the third page that he said should be the name of our website or close and relevant. Did I miss something here? Will we be creating content for this page at a later time? Is this page a prelude to what our website is all about?

Hi, Suzette, Kyle did not leave you/us hanging, he explains you need to create a page using something similar to your website name for the page name, that is part of the task for that lesson.

Create the page if you have not already and move on to the next lesson.

I would go forward Neil if I understood correctly about the theme page. I will go to lesson 8 again and see what I missed.

I don't generally jump to the next lesson if I don't understand the lesson I am on.

Thank you for not answering the three main questions I asked.

LOL Suzette, you have not missed anything, just create the page if you have not done so yet, in the same way you have created the other pages, and then go to the next lesson...

It is a progressive path...and sometimes this is the best answer to provide folks with as you will often find many of your answers in the lessons.

And don't worry, I won't try to not answer any more of your questions in the future. I would hate to offend you or waste your time.

Let's hope you get some more responses that give you the guidance you seek.

Thanks for being so gracious...

Best wishes

I apologize Neil. It's not generally my nature to be so easily offended and bitchy.

I did go back through the video training again and did see that Kyle said to create the page and that the building of the content would come later in the training.

Again, please accept my apology, you help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, Suzette, your statement implies that I actually did/said something wrong, something you had a 'right' to be offended at, which is, of course, untrue.

How you react is your business, and I have no doubt you have, what are in your mind, valid reasons for your behaviour, I, however, see them as excuses, but I have no desire nor the energy to waste getting involved in a discussion over the nature of truth, reality and perception.

Having thought about this for a little while now, you have actually re-highlighted one of the aspects of WA and a behaviour that some folks exhibit, that I genuinely dislike, and this little episode has just re-iterated to me, why I should take a step back, and focus my time and energy on my own works and leave the support to the many other great helpers here at WA.

So we shall leave it there and I accept your apology as an end to the matter.

I am pleased you have managed to resolve your issues and move forward and I wish you the very best of success in your endeavours and hope that you find the guidance you seek.

Thanks and kind regards

Neil

The things you will learn here are techniques that you can apply to your own, website/business.

Will it work? Well, that's where you come in.

If you follow the courses, take action when required and commit yourself then you have a good chance of success.

I don't think that you have a "specific" section in the lessons to write these down? I believe Kyle...(I think that was his name lol), just wants us "newbies" (like myself) to write these goals down personally and put them out in plain sight? This way, you always see where you are and whether or not you are meeting your goals expectations? This is what I have done (printed off my goals and taped them to the wall), so if I am wrong, someone can correct me! Good Luck!
