How Full Are Your Buckets?
Being a solo-preneur or business owner can be stressful, heck if you are struggling to start your own online business it can be even more so, and we all know we need to practice self care but if you listen to the gurus it can get complicated.
I’d love to simplify it for you and at least give you a few things you can do today to improve your self-care.
We all have 4 buckets
- Physical
- Emotional
- Mental
- Spiritual
At the start of each day your buckets are full ✅ but over the course of a normal day they can start to leak.
❌ Stressors of the day can mean your buckets drip a little bit or sometimes they crack and spring a gushing fountain.
It is important to keep replenishing your buckets so they don’t get empty and really start causing you dramas which show up as stress, anxiety, physical ailments etc.
So how do you fill up each of your buckets❓
Physical
- Eat well - yep fruit, veg and a small amount of protein
- Vitamin/Mineral supplements if you are missing meals
- Get enough sleep - this varies from person to person but 8 hours is recommended for adults
- Moderate exercise - move your body for 22 minutes x 3 times a week as minimum
Emotional
- Spend time with family and friends
- Physical touch, hugs & kisses with those you can
- Work from a park, coffee shop if you feel isolated
- Accept those invitations to join people for brunch, outings etc. once we can again
For now, staying in touch with Skype or Messenger video will help you feel less isolated. Even just a phone call with a postive friend can help fill the emotional bucket.
Mental
- Stimulate your brain
- Read
- Do puzzles
- Learn something new
Spiritual
- Listen to music
- Meditate
- Set aside time for yourself
How are your buckets looking today❓
If they seem a bit empty I hope some of these ideas will help you fill them back up again.
What else do you do to help fill your buckets❓
Share your ideas below and perhaps we can all help each other especially during these trying times.

Recently I have started riding my bike for a half hour to an hour a day, weather permitting. I have always taken vitamins since childhood since my mother made sure we took them every day.. Lately I have tripled my daily dose of vitamin D. Studies I have seen show an amazing correlation between vitamin D and ratio of those who take it in the avoidance and in the severity and death rate from Covid 19.
Hello Heidi and thanks for another really informative post.
I am all in for starting the day off on the right foot.
Spending time first thing in the morning listening to messages of faith and inspiration from 5 am is something I have done for a while.
Going for a walk at 6 am every morning for 45 minutes is also a great way to get the day started.
Eating well, exercise and good rest is something I work on every day.
Have a great weekend.
Darren :)
Sounds like you have a morning routine that would fill anyone's buckets Darren, nice one and thank you for sharing, maybe others can adapt from your routine.
Hi Heidi. thank you for sharing. Two things that are critical for me.
1.) i normally get up about 4.00 mots mornings and spend 2 hours with affirmations, reading, meditation and quiet time. This is very special time for me.
2.) A minimum 1 hour exercise. whether it is Gym or walking.
These two things make my day.
Have a great day
Stephen.

Heidi this is fantastic My main goal in life has always been to teach the four buckets. We forget to fill them up. There are so few people that know or think along these lines. Life lessons are so very important and if we can teach them through examples the more likely these lessons will stay with us. Another very good Post Linda
I loved the analogy when I heard it Linda, it's a great thing to teach. None of us can reach our full potential without taking care of the 4 buckets.
