I attended a great training over the weekend with my husband for his job. One speaker shared a story that struck me and I've been thinking about it ever since!

A farmer found an egg on his farm. He didn't know what was in it, but he knew that if he left the egg alone whatever was inside would die. He put the egg into the chicken coop and went about his business.

A week or two later the egg hatched. Its occupant saw the chickens pecking and scratching at the ground. He copied these motions and began to peck and scratch at the ground.

Time went on and a visitor came to the farm. As he walked by the chicken coop he glanced over and saw an eagle standing among the chickens, scratching and pecking at the ground.

He asked the farmer, "Why is there an eagle in the chicken coop?" The farmer replied "He thin
ks he's an eagle." The man then asked if he could teach the eagle to be an eagle, the farmer said yes.

The man took the eagle and put him on top of the fence. He said, "You are an eagle. You are meant for the sky, not the ground. Spread your wings and fly."

The eagle looked up at the sky then down at the chicken coop where his chicken friends were pecking away at the ground. He hopped off the fence and started pecking the ground again.

The next day the man returned and took the eagle up to the top of the farm house. He said, "You are an eagle. You are meant for the sky, not the ground. Spread your wings and fly."

The eagle looked up at the sky then down at the ground. He put his wings out and fluttered down and began pecking at the ground.

The next day the man took the eagle to the top of a mountain. He said "You are an eagle. You are meant for the sky, not the ground. Spread your wings and fly."

The eagle looked up at the sky then all around the mountain. He ruffled his feathers, spread his wings and began to soar.

You see, sometimes we just have to spread our wings and take the leap. We could stay in the chicken coop pecking at the ground OR we can spread our wings and soar. Live up to our true potential!
