Different Seasons in the Race
When we started this venture at Wealthy Affiliate, I think many of us envisioned moving right along in the training at a steady pace and having a successful blog underway within a few months or so. I know I did! Then life happened.
That two hour time period you were hoping to set aside to write a new article was interrupted by children who needed lunch made. Or perhaps a parent called and needed you to take them to a doctor's appointment. You get the idea. This can be very frustrating.
Perhaps you log in to WA every day to see people passing you up and hitting milestones you feel you should have hit already. It can make you feel discouraged and even like you aren't working very hard.
I've come to realize we are all in different season of life in this race:
- Some with small children
- Some with no children yet or the children are grown and gone
- Some with elderly parents who may need care
- Some who work a 40-50 hour week
- Some who are able to be at home or only work part-time jobs
These different seasons can drastically affect the amount of time we are able to put into our online business, but that doesn't mean we aren't working as hard. Your two hours is just as important as someone else's eight hours each day. It may take you longer to get where you are going, but that does not mean you won't be successful.
Sometimes it's hard not to compare yourself with others in our community, but I think it's more important to focus on yourself and realize that each step of the training you complete gets you one step closer to reaching your goals. It's also necessary to take a look backwards and see how far you have come. I think you will be amazed at what you have accomplished!
So whatever season you are in, embrace it and enjoy that stage of life and realize it's okay if it takes you a little longer to get to the finish line.

Thanks, Heidi great post and so true.
Everybody has a slightly different approach, but the end product or goal is the same for all of us.
A marathon runner is a very good analogy, long endurance race, that needs tons of effort, commitment, discipline, focus and a will to never give up and get across the winning line.

Well said Heidi.
You put that together very well. So true.
I am appreciating every step I do.
We all have different circumstances. We can't compare to anyone else. Different seasons as you put it. :)
Nice touch finishing off with saying from Dean Karnazes.
Enjoyed your post :)
Di :)
Thanks! I had several great quotes I found that I wanted to include but I couldn’t post them because they were from the same website. When I went to publish, it said my content was just like another webpage, so I had to choose one. Glad you enjoyed the post.
I love your writeup thanks for sharing these inspirational thoughts with all of us at WA
Absolutely! Small steps forward eventually add up to larger steps. We all have different lives. There are days at a time when I cannot work on my site or participate here. And that’s just life. I’d love to be able to do it every day, but life gets in the way:)
I appreciate your post.
Cheers
