Importance of a Media Kit

Being newer to internet marketing (my site is just about 18 months old), there are so many small things outside of the site itself and posting content that I am learning as I go. One of those lessons has been about Media Kits.

I am in the baby and breastfeeding niche and it has been great. One thing that I was not prepared for was all the requests I would start getting from companies to try their product.

They send me whatever the product is, I try it and see if it is something I would like to review for my readers. No strings attached, no expectations. And that has been working great for me.

In the last few months, however, this process has been going to the next level. Companies are asking about collaborations and advertising space, etc. The former executive in me wasn't comfortable sending random numbers and stats in an email to companies as it just didn't seem professional. I wanted something that would represent my brand and show that I am a legitimate business rather than some mom sitting at home in her slippers playing on the computer.

So I started researching what other bloggers do. I honestly had not heard of a media kit before. Maybe to more seasoned internet marketers that sounds crazy but I honestly had no idea this was a thing or what you put in one.

I spent a good weekend creating mine (I did purchase a template from a designer and glad I did cause it looks beautiful). It has been very well received! Now when a company offers to send me a product, I offer my media kit as a way for them to learn more about me and my blog and more times than not, it has been leading to them purchasing a sponsored post package (which I limit on my site by the way- only a few a month) or ad space.

I am hoping this post helps any new bloggers and encourages you to put together your own media kit. I feel great about the finished product and the representation of my brand that is going out to potential partners.

So if you are ready to start working with companies in your niche and are being asked about fees and stats for your blog, look up some media kits on google and start one. There are many blog posts that I found that walk you though how to create one.

Happy Sunday!
