Dо Yоu Νеed to Наvе Yоur Own Ρrоduсt?
Answering this age-old question...
Whethеr оr nоt yоu nеed tо havе уоur own рrоduсt tо bесоmе a suссeѕsful affilіate mаrketеr іѕ а quеѕtіоn thаt hаѕ bееn аѕkеd аnd anѕwеrеd еvеrу fеw mіnuteѕ ѕіncе аffіlіatе markеtіng саmе оn the ѕсеnе. Τhе fасt of thе mattеr iѕ that еvеrуbоdу іѕ rіght. Наvіng уour оwn рrоduсt is grеat but іt iѕn’t аbѕоlutelу nесеѕѕаry. Τhе thіng thаt bоth thоsе whо dо and thоѕе whо don’t hаvе thеіr оwn prоduсt hаve іn common іѕ that thеу bоth muѕt bе раѕѕіоnаtе abоut thе рrоduсtѕ thеy ѕеll. I agree with US Vet and NY . You can have the greatest product since sliced bread and if you cannot get it out the door through proper marketing techniques you have nothing.
Wal-Mart is the number 1 ranked company on the fortune 500 list with $469.2 billion in sales and they have no products of their own.
I believe that this is a "learning to walk, before you run" discussion. People need to realize that having a product is only 1 P of the 6 P's of marketing.
1. Product
2. Place
3. Price
4. Promotion
5. People
6. Process
While having a good product is much better than having a good idea, it is only part of the mix required to be successful. There are a lot of good products that have been developed that failed because of not executing the 6P mix correctly.
Becoming a good affiliate marketer gives you the background to be more successful on the other 5 P's when you get to the point of launching your own product.
Dealing with headaches of customer service, life cycles, competition, etc... is another blog post. :)
Great point! Many great products out there fail due to poor marketing, whereas many more sub-par products make millions because of excellent marketing execution -- namely of at least 5 of the 6Ps you refer to.
Great points NY ! There are many ways to be successful online . Opportunities are endless online, I don't think anyone should limit themselves to one or the other . With time comes growth .. Thanks for the valuable information .. To your success in 2014 !
Thanks for the info, its great. as I have my own products but right now am not trying to sell them. I want to get to the point of being an affiliate then figure if my product will work with my site.
You're welcome Shirley... I believe starting as an affiliate is always the way to go first. Hard to manage affiliates if you've never been one yourself.
yeah, you just need to adjust your perception. By nature are brains are initially confused with learning all the tech stuff involved in producing a website & then produce a content to make it a winner online.
So therein lies the challenge.
It is a challenge we must all face if we are going to get serious about being an successful online pioneer who can become financially independent.
I do agree with this post. As for myself I will start with affiliate marketing and leverage
to my own products as i gain experience in Internet Marketing.
I totally agree with you. You need to be passionate about the product whether it's your own or from an affiliate company. Plus you do need to be able to have an effective marketing techniques. Very good post.
Thanks Mel... I also think it's important to learn how to effectively market as an affiliate before launching your own products and recruiting affiliates. This way, you can empathize and better relate with your affiliates.

Ever heard of the Pet Rock? The dude who launched that product became a millionaire passionately selling "Pet Rocks". He packaged a rock, and sold it as the perfect pet.
Now, a rock isn't much of a product (IMHO), but the lesson is that having a strong belief in your product and a great understanding of what drives a market is often times more valuable (to the producer) than the product itself. (If that makes any sense)
