Amazon Rules Seem to Limit Outside Advertising

From the Amazon Operation & Affiliate Rules it Seems as Though Advertising Through Google or Other Affiliates Programs Will be a Breach of Contract. So, How do You Get Other Potential Routes of Routes of Income. I Also Understand it is not Good to Advertise WA on an Amazon Site. Need Help Understanding.

1. Description of the Program

The purpose of the Program is to permit you to advertise Products on your site and to earn advertising fees for Qualifying Purchases (defined in Section 7) made by your end users. A “Product” is any item sold on the Amazon Site, other than any product that is listed on this page (collectively, “Excluded Products”). A Product may also include certain services, if any, expressly included on the Associates Program Advertising Fee Schedule. In order to facilitate your advertisement of Products, we may make available to you data, images, text, link formats, widgets, links, and other linking tools, and other information in connection with the Program (“Content”). Content specifically excludes any data, images, text, or other information or content relating to products offered on any site other than the Amazon Site.

5.You will use Content solely in accordance with the terms of the Operating Agreement and within the express scope of the license granted in Section 11 of the Operating Agreement. Without limiting the foregoing, you will (a) use Content solely to send end users and sales to the Amazon Site and will not link any Content to, or in conjunction with any Content direct traffic to, any page of a site other than the Amazon Site (however, parts of your site that are not closely associated with the Content may contain links to sites other than the Amazon Site); and (b) link each use of the Content solely to the related Product detail page or other relevant page of the Amazon Site and not to any other page.

8.You will not add to, delete from, or otherwise alter any Content in any way, including by adding additional information (e.g., you may not insert words into a customer review), except that you may resize Content consisting of a graphic image in a manner that maintains the original proportions of the image or truncate Content consisting of text in a manner that does not materially alter the meaning of the text or cause the text to become factually incorrect or misleading.

And the answer is good for all of us: From Amazon:
I am sorry for any misunderstanding. The sections of the Operating Agreement that you refer to are about how our links, and logos are used. You are welcome to place links for other sites and services on your website.

We do not require exclusivity in order to become an Amazon Associate.

thank goodness it was only a misinterpretation. Imagine if they did limit us in that way!?

Brilliant information thank you.

I sent Amazon an e-mail to clear it up for me.

Whew. Never realized this before. I use a couple of Amazon widgets, but i also use Google Adsense.

I think you don't get it right.
I am going with Amazon and others.
We'll see what happens.:)

They sell everything, don"t they?

My site is all about Kindles. There is no place I am not talking about an Amazon product. It looks as though putting other ads on would be difficult. What product does Amazon not sell? Maybe I am reading too much into it.

Thanks for the info...it is only talking about Amazon's materials. It's a good point to bring up though. I've already seen many sites with both amazon and google along with other links and banners with no issues.....all the best!

I also understood it as the material provided by Amazon must not be tampered with and can only link to the product in question. But to have other affiliate links is ok as long as it is no risk of misunderstandings. I have both Amazon and other links on my website.

I have to agree with the other comment. It seems that Content applies to stuff you take off Amazon directly. Like they don't want you using anything they make available to you to link to a differnet site. "we may make available to you data, images, text, link formats, widgets, links, and other linking tools, and other information in connection with the Program (“Content”)".

"however, parts of your site that are not closely associated with the Content may contain links to sites other than the Amazon Site" In other words you are welcome to link to other sites as long as they are not in close correlation with the stuff you got off of Amazon. All I got from that whole thing is if you take it off Amazon to put on your site it better be linking back to Amazon and not to a competitor.

As for the linking to WA and amazon on one site I dont really see the problem as long as it makes sense. I haven't heard anything about it. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Jean

Reading between the lines of that, it seems it's to stop people using an amazon ad, but linking it to somewhere else. Not entirely sure, but thats my take on that.
