What Was Your Defining Entrepreneur Moment?

I very often hear entrepreneurs tell their defining moment in life that made them want to make money.

So I'm interested to hear yours. I'll tell you mine

As a child I grew up in in the Welsh Valleys, on the outskirts of the city. My area was surrounded by fields and forests and cycle tracks and farms and castles and tunnels and quarries and golf courses and I explored each and every one of them.

Here is the little village I grew up in Just outside of Cardiff, Wales, UK:

It even has it's own castle in the hills, just off the cycle track that I used to walk to, through the dark deep forest.

it wasn't all great though. I lived in a nasty, rough council estate. I guess they just wanted to stick us anywhere out the way, as far away up the mountain as possible but it was a great escape for me. I loved exploring and getting away from the horrid estate! Now I live in the city I just feel sorry for these poor street kids that don't have what I had to explorer ( not that I would let my kids do what I did anyway )

At the age of 34 I told my mother exactly where I used to go when I was 10 years old and what I got up to and she was absolutely amazed. She thought I was near by, in the car park or by the garages.

We never had enough money and I was aware that my mother was struggling. I used to walk 5 mins to this golf course near by and I would look for stray golf ball in the forest and ponds and outskirts.

Money Making from A Young Age

By the age of 10, I learnt all the best balls to get, their names and numbers and quality ones. I would batch them up in bags and sell them for a FIVER ( pound ) a bag.

If I wanted more money I'd try and offer myself as a caddy but I was small and weak and they'd feel sorry for me and give me cash to go home.

From that time I have always taken opportunities from my surroundings about how to make money. Some have worked some have been a disaster but all in all it's just always something I have done.

Tell Me Your Story

I love to read peoples stories about where they came from and what defined them and I'd love to hear yours.....What was it in your life that gave you a business head?

Came from a big family we did not have much but we were happy, worked hard all my life, brought my family up, due to health could not get a into a job again got fed up with the constant knock backs so I decided I will create my own job and not one can tell me I am a health and safety risk anymore so here I am and am here for the long haul

good on ya KatieMac!

My father was in the air force and I and so I spent 7 years of my childhood in Italy I can speak the language and can understand as long as they speak slow.
I guess I started loving video games with the Atari system and grew from there. Now I want everyone to at least be able to experience a chance of enjoying games like I have all the best

oh my gosh I remember the Atari. Horis Goes Sking and Moris Minor

I had my first job at the age of 14. I was a live in "summer girl" (a glorified nanny) for some rich people from Chicago who had a summer home on the beautiful Wisconsin lake by the small village I grew up in. At home, I shared a room with 2 sisters ... at "work", I had my own room, private pier on the lake, sail boat, ski boat and money in my pocket ... plus they treated me like family. At home, we had the basic necessities and plenty of love, but there was never any extras. At "work" I had the best of everything. I learned that money does not buy happiness ... but it sure does make things easier. I've been trying to earn money, one way or another, ever since.

Wow, what a great experience at the age of 14. I would have loved it.

At the age of 14 I had a paper round. I'd get up at 6am and carry heavy papers around the estate for 1 hour everyday for £6 a week.

Oh those were the days

I'm not sure how much that is in dollars ... but I made $40.00 a week at my summer job and I could save that all as I never had to spend my own money on anything there. I saved my money in the summer and used it to pay for all my extras during the school year.

whoa that's fab!!! You were a rich 14 year old bet you were buzzing

£6 = about $12 I think
I used to spend it on cigarettes. I was a naughty teenager

Thanks for the laugh ... you made my day! I've gone from good habits to bad ... now I'm the one spending all my extra cash on smokes!

haha yea and me the opposite. I try and save as much as poss and re invest.

You must give up the smokes though they are really not worth it

OKAY. mom .... I'm trying!
