The Art of Asking the Right Question
We are usually on autopilot when asking questions during our life. Only when we start receiving answers to some of the questions a few decades later, we begin to ask somewhat smarter questions.
It is much better to have them answered in this lifetime of course.
All great artists and geniuses are known to have asked effective questions. Since all inspirations and inventions are only answers to questions someone has asked.
If you can conceptually accept that there exists at least one perfectly easy solution for every problem for absolutely everyone in absolutely any situation, and that, there has been a direct correlation between your ease of life and the questions you have been asking yourself.
Read on because I have formulated a very simple way to help you simplify your life by getting satisfying answers.
Like any other change of habit, one must shift gear from autopilot to consciously asking questions until this new mode of questioning becomes the new habit.
We might kill two birds with one stone in this simple process bringing more presence of ourselves into our life.
Let me demonstrate by an example.
Every time someone is rude to us, we might ask questions like this
Why are people like that?
This is totally out of habit. Honestly, unless we wish to treat all the people from this ailment and it would take years to accumulate vast knowledge to answer even remotely such a broad question, it does not do anything for us. Plus it hides the real reason for asking the questions.
Why do we ask questions like that?
Just kidding..
If you are asking the above question, it means you are irritated by bumping into rude people, you have accepted that you cannot avoid them and if you knew why maybe you would not feel so bad.
The conscious question is formulated such that when it is answered you will not face that issue. Here is being conscious comes into play, first acknowledge that there are nice and easy solutions for everything, based on that knowing construct your question so that it yields to a clear and quick answer to a current problem.
The alternative conscious or smarter question with the more satisfying outcome for the above situation would be:
How can I rendezvous with people when they are in their best mood?
The truth is people are not always rude and we know that very well, awareness helps us think and respond constructively.
Another example is if you have a piece of equipment that keeps breaking, you may ask:
You may notice that after replacing this and that part, you will end up replacing the whole thing after spending much time and money. Now if you ask yourself:
What is the easiest solution for this so that I can enjoy a reliable equipment?
The answer will be more satisfying. Remember first you ask yourself the questions and then the others.
Socrates is known to believe that one should keep asking questions and when asking the questions you should assume nothing, this way the answers are not confined by the limitations of your assumptions. Having asked the right questions in any moment, you will find that there are always better and better solutions, which would require smarter and smarter questions. That is what you are working towards hence perfecting the art of asking questions.
