Live Broadcasting: A New Alternative to SEO?

Within the last 12 months, there's been a new trend on the horizon that's been catching on like a wild fire lately that;s being used to drive traffic to websites, and promote businesses - both online and offline. It's live broadcasting from a smartphone. It's as simple as downloading an app to your phone, opening the app, filling out a short profile, typing in a title for your video broadcast and hitting the red "Record" button. Who's using these apps? Everyone who's on the cutting edge, from life coaches to business coaches to internet preachers to internet marketers to people just wanting to stare into the phone and do nothing.(I wouldn't recommend the "stare into the phone and do nothing" option. It's a wast of a valuable resource).

These are currently the four most popular apps to check out:
1. Periscope
2. Meerkat
3. Blab
4. Mevee

Periscope is owned by Twitter, so it is the most used of the four, although Meerkat is a close second because they actually appeared on the scene first. If you search Bing or Google, you'll find a lot of new eBooks, websites and tutorials popping up by a new crop of experts at marketing using these apps to gain followers and customers. In fact, during a recent Scope (when you use Periscope to broadcast to your followers, it's called a "Scope") a well known IM business coach who I follow, was saying that she doesn't even bother with SEO anymore. She gets all her of business through her daily broadcasts. One of the benefits of broadcasting using these apps is that you can share to Twitter or Facebook during a live broadcast. This way, new people can tune in and follow you all the time and you can grow your audience exponentially.

What makes Blab unique is the ability to log on with your laptop or computer, so you don't need a smartphone to connect. It also has the ability to broadcast up to four people simultaneously, so you can invite other members in the audience to join you in a round-tablel discussion like on TV news. Mevee is currently for iPhone only and is still in beta testing. BTW - Facebook has developed Facebook Live, also still being tested, but watch out once THAT goes mainstream.

So what does all this mean to all of us here at WA? Well, if you're camera shy, you might want to think about practicing public speaking in front of a mirror, or perhaps begin to record yourself, and hone your speaking skills. You might just find that Scoping or broadcasting your message out into tCyberspace to be a great alternative for you if you're having a difficult time finding keywords. Though I wouldn't profess to know if this method of getting business or driving traffic to your website will ever completely replace good SEO, it certainly couldn't hurt to use it as a way to boost your online presence in concert with your SEO and other advertising efforts.

More on this later.
