Over-sautrated?
But here is where the conversation borderlines an argument. He says that those two niches are over-saturated with people selling those products and it would be near impossible to be successful, I would just be wasting time, energy, and probably money. My counter argument is that I would just have to be more exact and specific in my niche, such as, "alien jewelry." (lol)
I understand that with the holistic herbs, there is a ton of info on the web, because I have been researching it for so long. But, one upper hand I do have over some people, is that I have used them to help my ailments, I can connect with the reader on that level.
He does have a good argument, though, these two things are very popular and there are thousands, if not millions, of sites promoting and selling these items. For instance, if you type almost anything about jewelry into google, the ads on top are for big companies like Zales and Jared. And, if you type in something about herbal supplements, you'll get sites who are already selling those things which you would be an affiliate for.
I wanted to know your guys' opinion, should I look into something different? Should I stick with something I know?
Have a wonderful day!

Thanks for the encouragement and advice! I will put my best foot forward and create something I enjoy and am confident writing about :)
You're welcome! That's the recipe to success. Too often people are writing based on niche research and not what they're actually passionate about and know. People can smell this and most of the time you get poor results and why so many affiliates fail and give up. But if you're writing about something you know and are passionate about, it shows and your audience will respond with trusting and eventually taking action on your affiliate products and recommendation.
Wow Eddy, you are right on target. People aren't stupid and they can spot a fake from a mile away. Be genuine.
I agree with Keith. You can always drill down as you have suggested. There are so many long tailed keywords and sub niches within a larger niche that you can carve out a little space for yourself.
You also bring something unique to the table in that you actually live and use the topic you're writing and promoting. That's huge. You bring a certain voice and experience that other affiliates and websites probably don't have. I'm in a super competitive niche and basically cover what my competitors cover. The only difference is my writing voice. People connect to me on a human level and that is huge online. So go with your gut, but obviously apply the research and techniques discussed here on WA about keyword and niche selection.
Stick with what you love. There are keywords in every niche that are undiscovered and untapped that you can use to rank. Follow the training on keywords on here and you should do well.

I believe almost any niche can be successful. When Wal Mart wanted to build a super center in our small town, us downtown merchants got really concerned and we hired a consultant who gave us a presentation.
He said, you can't compete with Wal Mart on price, but just find something Wal Mart does not do well (and there are a lot of things they don't do well), like personalized service - then pursue it.
We found Wal Mart ended up being a good partner because we did not go head-to-head with them. We weren't perceived as a threat to them and they were fine with us.
Believe me, there is something missing in your market place. Fill it.
