Fishing with Dynamite...
Everyone seems to be looking for the magic key that unlocks the next big thing that will wake up the economy. In that regard, one of the biggest buzzwords these days is innovation, mostly applied to technology and used as a tool of mass disruption...in other words, the opposite of sustainability. Disruption, as it's generally used in business today, reminds me of fishing with dynamite. Sure, you 'catch' a lot of fish, but you also get a lot of collateral damage to the other elements in the ecosystem. Change for the sake of change comes at a high cost.
As an example, the Los Angeles Unified School District recently announced that they were going to get rid of the iPads because it had been determined that laptops were a better fit for students' needs. LAUSD has 640,000 students and if only 100,000 of them are using iPads then the district will effectively be throwing $30,000,000 of value out the window AND spending additional money to replace those iPads. How is that the best solution during this time of educational budget cuts? How about using a tool that takes the best of the existing system and uses a new method to enhance the value further? A solution such as Parle Innovation's Dock-it case for the iPad.
The Dock-it case easily transforms the iPad into a laptop, as demonstrated in this video PI Dock-it Pro Demo. Additionally, these cases can be personalized to reflect the school's logo or the student's personal message to the world using the partnership between Dock-it and Skin It. The Dock-it case is available for every form of the iPad at a very reasonable cost, certainly much less than the cost disposing of good technology and purchasing another 100,000 laptops!
Bottom line: there is always a middle ground solution takes the best of the existing resources and repurposes them in a way that allows the best outcome with the least damage.
I'd rather have my fish filleted than shredded...wouldn't you?
