Hello to all. After using anchor links for some time now, I am coming across a problem where some new anchor links that I just added jump to the top of the page. I have changed

OK, everything's back to normal! I think the problem is caused by Guttenberg. As there was a conflict with the type of block I was using (Paragraph) and the html I was actually entering, I was being asked if I wanted to convert to en html block or just change it to the paragraph block form that I had initially selected. I was saving in paragraph block and Guttenberg was stripping my styling code. I replaced all the code correctly and saved as html. And that was that!

Because I was asked why I need the styling, I will explain and leave a screenshot of the actual code so that other people can also use it. Because many times and depending on the browser used the actual alignment is not perfect resulting in incorrect targeting, from what I have understood as I am definitely not a coder, placing a "position:absolute" element in a "position:relative" one and giving it some space from the top, does the trick. What I do know is that it does the job perfectly and seems to be valid and not deprecated (I think - I'd love more info if somebody knows anything related).

Thank you for your help!

Hey Ioannis,

This sounds to me though you have incorrectly added those new anchor links.

Here's Marion Black's excellent training on anchor (or jump) links for you to review: and see where you might have forgotten a step.

Hope you find this helpful.

,thank you.

just take the style out of the id and you should jump to the link.
why have you put that in there?
phil

The style is the same in all the rest of the jump links on that particular page and they all work perfectly. I use it to land right on target and not a little above or below. Curiously enough, I removed the style to test it and it did jump, though not exactly on target. I don't understand how it can work for all the links on that page except for the ones I just placed!

Hey Ioannis,

In Google searching "full page width page template in twenty seventeen" (without the quotation marks, of course) there appears to be several different resolutions discussed in the WordPress support forum that might work better for you.

Hope you find this helpful.

, thank you, I have checked all this as I have been with it for about two days. I cannot understand why I have this problem as I have followed instructions step by step and various times. Whatever! I am thinking of trying Elementor and take it from there. Thank you all for your help! Cheers!

Did a bit of checking and your theme 2017 doesn't have the Template Function.
If it did you would have the Full Width option.
You will have to change your theme Grieg.

, thanks for your quick answer. I have already made my fullwidth template and have added the files needed but as I mentioned, the sidebar DOES disappear but the content DOES NOT occupy the full width of the page but stays where it always has been without takng over the space of the sidebar, now gone.

I know, you said before but if the theme doesn't have the Template Function then you wouldn't have the option of choosing Full Width.
perhaps whatever code you created wont extend the margins to where you want them.

, if a full width template is created, you then have the option but even though I've selected my template, I can't get it to work!

HI griego62
Although I don't know how to write code, there are not many experiences in building websites. But I am using Elementor for editing and layout of pages. It is a good plugin. You may also know about this plugin. But if you don't know Elementor, maybe it helps you.

Introduction to Elementor

If you use it, you can also use my affiliate link:
Free version-http://bit.ly/2V63dig
PRO version-http://bit.ly/2JgNquo

I'm thinking you need a cPanel which of course we don't have with the WA version of WP.

Does your Theme not have the full width option?

Hey Ioannis,

The only reason for not changing a permalink is if your post was ranking well already. However, you stated that you did not want this page indexed... yet, Google indexed it anyway.

Knowing that then my answer is "yes" you can go ahead and change the title and permalink to your directory, and then let Google rank it (by removing the noindex, nofollow) once you're ready to let the world know it exists.

Hope you find this helpful.

, thank you. Actually, Google hasn't indexed it which is one more reason why I also believed that there would be no problem in changing title and permalink. I appreciate your help!

Hi
I am not sure what other member say but once I did same thing,So what I did,I change title and permalink and submit again on search console for indexing.

, I know the page has not been indexed by Google but not sure of the other search engines as a "noindex" tag isn't a guarantee. Thanks for your answer!

You welcome

Hello all!

Hey Ioannis,

The best way to determine if you have duplicated content anywhere on your website is through using one of the many different free tools available online.

See screen print below...

Hope you find this helpful.

, thank you for your reply. The thing is that I would like to know if it would be considered duplicate content before I actually change my post.

If it is identical, in that you have, let's say, 100 directory listings that you will be copying and pasting from your original post and using in a second post, then yes, it is duplicate content.

One of the free tools allows you to literally copy and paste your content BEFORE publishing it, to see if it is duplicate content.

You would be better off (and make Google happy) adding information to the original post rather than creating a new post and copying the list from your original post.

, thank you for the valuable information. The thing is that I am now making a business directory with all the tools and features that characterize a directory. The post is just an article that includes the information that the directory should have. I was thinking that maybe I could eliminate that information from the post and place it in the directory. Would that be considered duplicate content?

Adding unique information is never considered as duplicate content. Only when you literally copy EXACTLY word for word (or change only a couple of words) is it considered duplicate content.

, thank you very much. I appreciate your time!

Thanks Trish. I write all my own content from my head so I should never have to worry about duplicate content, but this is invaluable to those who purchase content (Fiverr among others). It still is a tool I will use just to have peace of mind.

Mark

You're very welcome Mark, and Thank YOU for letting me know this helped you too.
