This Old Dog Is Friends With Kevin Bacon

If you look at the theory of "Six Degrees of Separation" in all likelihood, Keven Bacon and I are friends. I've never met him but he HAS TO BE my friend through the application of this theory. The theory states that "everyone and everything is six or fewer steps away, by way of introduction, from any other person in the world."

So a 'friend of a friend' can be made to connect any two people in the world via a maximum of six steps. So I must be a friend of Kevin Bacon. I am so happy. I love Kevin Bacon and wish that I could attend one or more of his wonderful Hollywood parties in the near future. Problem is, someone has to let him know that we are friends!

The theory of "Six Degrees of Separation" was originally set out by a fellow by the name of Frigyes Karinthy in 1929. Somehow, through the decades, the theory was used to link actors in Hollywood in a sort of a game to see what each actor's relationship in the business was with Kevin Bacon (Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon). BUT WHY Kevin Bacon?

In 2005, the National Geographic Society and IBM produced a television program call the Genographic Project which resulted in multiple episodes as the project was implemented and the results tallied. The program reviewed, in the Genographic Project, a multi-year genetic anthropology study that intended to map historical human migration patterns by collecting and analyzing DNA samples from hundreds of thousands of people from around the world. As completed, is was analyzed and reported upon. Yep! Kevin Bacon was the narrator of this National Geographic Society TV program.

So who cares??? ME!

My dear Ruthie rails on me regularly about all the time I spend emailing my WA friends from around the world (literally) and talking to them about a myriad of WA topics. She asks, "why are you doing this?" Which I reply, with a certain amount of indignation, "because they are my friends!" Then she laughs and says, "your friends...you have never even met them and they are your friends?" I reply with kind of a smirky smile, "yes they are within at least six degrees of separation." This old dog loves his WA friends. DAN

You ROCK Dan !! Hi-5 BFF !! [Bruddah-Friend-Forever]

Hi Holly, you pretty smile lady that speaks way too much foreign language in our communications. lol I appreciate your comment on my piece. Have a great day, week, and month young woman. DAN

That was great and I like Kevin Bacon too. Great actor and person I have been told.
You are too, and you have a lot friends here at WA.

Michael, you make me feel so good. Thank you so much for your comment. Us Old Dogs just love to be reminded that we are still a little intelligent. DAN

I think there's something to be said about that Dan. I first met my wife online and we got to know each other very well. When we finally met in person "half a world away" it was like we like we were always together.

Point i'm making is, that is so true that you can make friends online and get to know them quite well without ever meeting in person.

Gary

Couldn't agree more with you Gary. It sort of like my friend Gary that I met online...oh that's you. There you have it. We are true WA friends. DAN

You got it Dan, perhaps someday in person! How far away are you from New England? Gary

Gary: Long-way. Ruthie and I live in Pocatello, Idaho. In years past, I made it to the New England area a lot. I love the area. But since I have turned @$%#&*#! I simply don't do that much traveling. You never know though. I feel that there are a number of WAers that I would like to meet in person (including you). That's a problem with me since whenever I get a "feather up my b__t" I act upon it. See you sooner than later. DAN

Ok Dan, look forward to that day, hopefully soon. However I know what you mean, not easy right now. I don't plan on doing any kind of long distance traveling anytime soon. I had enough for now since I just got back from China.
Gary

Good for you Gary. I didn't love China (on my many trips there) but I really respect the country for what they have done to help the lives of its people once they figured out capitalist-communism. The concept has really helped the people. DAN

Hi Dan, I can't say I loved China either but the 2 things I did love was:

I. the people, I think many people here in the US think differently. I found them to be some of the most friendly and peaceful people in the world.

I lived in a big city there and i can say I never really experienced any violence to speak of no matter what time and any where. I always felt safe.

2. The country, the mountains and much of the landscape and architecture are majestic.

The things I didn't like about it was it's too crowded, the smog and it's kinda dirty in many areas especially with garbage. Also there's too much needless construction going on there and that's a big reason why the economy is going down and bringing us down with it.

Gary

Can't agree with you more. China has a lot to offer its people but the government just can't quite get it together. I hated the pollution. I don't care for the way their airports run either. They make you feel as though they are doing something really great for you by simply booking a ticket with them. Not very capitalist in their customer relations. DAN

I like the way you are getting a message across and what I get out of this is just because you have never met someone you can still consider them your friends all the best Max

Exactly Max. I have so many wonderful friends at WA I simply can not believe it. Thank you for your comment. DAN

I think your six degrees represent the shift in this culture and generation. From the palm of your hand you can interact with anyone and anywhere and on that premise alone we could connect a lot of people. I love your perspective.

Erista: Took a look at your profile. It looks very interesting. Good luck with your proposed website. Thank you for your kind comments regarding my latest blog. See you around. DAN
