Google Number 1 Ranking after Renewing Domain

Towards the beginning of August 2013, I had a look at my Analytics stats and was horrified!! There were absolutely no visitors for over a week! Admittedly though, I had not kept myself up to date on the renewal date for my domain! My domain expired and was not receiving any traffic! All was not lost though...
What more could I do but to just renew my domain, right? So off I went to GoDaddy, made another payment and then waited... and waited some more! Two days later, I found that my website was searchable again. Although, after being at number 2 and 3 for months (almost a whole year), I found my website at number ONE!!

I can honestly say that from the time that my domain expired (#3 on Google) to the time that I renewed it (#1), I did absolutely nothing to my site (no blog posts, no editing of any sort, nothing...). So now I wondered what the change in ranking meant and how it came about. More specifically, what the domain renewal did to my ranking. Perhaps this is a ranking technique, perhaps Google just had another glance over my content? Any thoughts of this are more than welcome, as usual.
So, in light of my latest website's development and just to ensure a better chance of staying where I am now, I thought that I would publish another blog post. Which I did, in the hope that search engine will give me some 'plus points' for fresh content. All I can say at this point (with a huge cheeky grin), is that I have eventually surpassed my arch nemesis! Hooray!!
I just thought that I'd share my latest ranking achievement with the community. Perhaps I have motivated someone who is not feeling the 'ranking-love'? All I can say to you is, keep at it, you will be surprised at what you can achieve. Keep on, keeping on!
