Do We Really Need A Website in 2018?
Hi WA Family!
A good-friend of mine recently asked me this tricky question. My initial response was, Of course! Any affliate or creator or business needs a website man!
But I just realized how woefully inadequate that response was. (my bad) It’s a reaction, not a justification.
So I throw this question to my other friend who are a web developer, and will see if he had a more robust answer. He was very kind to write this guest post, and I’m going to sprinkle in some commentary at the end of a few of his main points.
There have never been tons of ways of communicating with people online, aside from actually having your own website. Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Board Game Geek, Reddit; the list goes on.
In the distant far-flung past (early 2000s) an internet user would want to know something, choose the relevant website and read its content. Nowadays, more and more content is now pushed dynamically at people, without them even needing to go looking for it.
Very clever algorithms are used to generate “recommended” videos or posts that users will be interested in even though they haven’t asked for it. (How many hours have you spent watching YouTube videos that you had no intention of viewing?) The world of social media enables this kind of intelligent linking in a way that a single business website can never replicate.
So with all the other clever and popular options out there to get your content to your customers, do you really need your own website?
Share your comments below for the reasons why–despite the ever-changing online landscape–a website is still essential for getting your message across.
Lets keep learning guys!

Go and read the terms of service on any social media platform. You don't have control of the stuff you actually broadcast to the public. You can lose your ability to use a platform for any reason that the provider decides.
A website is one more way for you to establish your presence online. It's where you control what happens and it gives you a sense of security that social media alone doesn't.
When you get flustered and upset with somebody else's service, you simply stop using it. It's not that you absolutely must have one, it's about your ability to exist online that becomes important.
But the ability of those social media platform is almost the same with a website and people spend tons of time in Social Media than a website.
How are you going to make an income when a social media platform tells you that it considers you a spammer?
With massive followers/subscribers, social media easily become a funnel to convert them become purchaser, so you can earn income there. It wont consider you a spammer if we create an origin content.

Thoughtful post -- isn't the whole idea of having your own domain--website is a presentation to the world that you are (or becoming or establishing) the 'niche authority'... isn't that the difference ---whereas with 'social media' (misnomer really), mostly following vs leading? .... thanks kindly for sharing ... cheerio... :)
I like the term "following vs leading" I got your point there.
...wonderful! ... :)
