So, about "being stuck"...

...After two or three stillborn blog attempts, it's been around 2 months or so here in WA, and I still haven't come up with any ideas for a blog.

Could it be that...

  • "Maybe it's actually the opposite: I have too many ideas and I just can't pick one and stick to it long enough.
  • Maybe I'm just impatient.
  • Maybe I'm lazy to do the work and specialize enough in a niche that I like but just don't know that much about.
  • Maybe I have too many distractions.
  • Maybe I've been scammed/let down too many times to even try again.
  • Maybe I'm too busy with my "real life" job.

You see, these are some of the of excuses I usually have when asking myself "why can't I take off with this IM thing?".

But that's asking the wrong question. You see, if you ask yourself "why?", your unconscious brain, being the loyal but not too logical servant it is, will come up with many reasons and will answer your question.

But you know what? It's not true. Reasons and excuses mostly come from past experiences, and if we let past events determine the future, well...

...NO WONDER there's no change!

So what's the right question to ask yourself?

2 major pointers:

  1. First of all, don't ask "why?"... ask "how?" or "what?"
  2. Ask yourself "positive oriented" questions!

For example:

Don't ask yourself "Why can't I come up with an idea and stick to it!?"

Instead, ask yourself...

"How can I come up with an idea and stick to it? What steps/education/learning do I have to take in order to achieve that?"

NOTE: There's no "I don't know" answers allowed. Like one of my teachers said a long time ago... "Saying 'I don't know' only means 'I'm lazy to think'"...

..And if that's your case, I don't know how to help haha!

Hope this helps someone that's going through the same as me. In fact, why not drop me a line and/or add me? Who knows what might happen!

Cheers and blessings!

Hi Gerardo,

If it's been two months then I would say just pick something and go with it. By making a decision, even if you don't stick with your initial decision for your first website you will be "moving".

Nothing is ever going to start out perfect. Once you start working on something, you have the opportunity to change directions and make it better if you don't like it. If you do nothing, you are perpetually stuck with nothing.

Another benefit to just picking something is you will then be actively involved and learning. It will force you to encounter situations where you have to learn something. If you don't know how to do something ask. If you are not sure what the next step is, ask someone.

One thing Kyle said has always stuck with me, "For every hour of reading/studying, spend one hour implementing those ideas." This helps prevent you from getting in the habit of reading things and putting off for later.

At the very least, if you pick something, anything, I guarantee you will learn a lot. If you decide to do a new niche or a new blog because the first one isn't right for you, then the process will be a lot easier the second time around.

For me the worst thing to do is nothing(which I am probably the worst offender!)
