Amazon Affiliate Notification
I believe that their are many WA members that are Amazon Affiliates.
Currently there are six states that are closed to becoming an Amazon Affiliate and they are:
Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, North Caroling & Rhode Island.
If you should live in any of these states you can still be an affiliate of Amazon. All you need to do is become an LLC company in a state that is not their restricted list. I did this as I live in Illinois and became an LLC company in 2011, in the state of Missouri. However, you need to read the information on how to become an LLC company in the state you are going to file in. There will be some associated fees and filing requirements you will need to do.
Once, you have your LLC established, you can re-submit your affiliate application with Amazon using the LLC company name and address on the application.
If you do not want to continue to be an affiliate with Amazon, then do nothing. If you live in Minnesota, Amazon will automatically terminate your account on July 1, 2013.

The state of Georgia needs to be added to the above list. I live in Ga. and they made the same law last year as the above states. Seems to more states are trying this thinking to add to their revenue.
I am a resident in Illinois. Must admit I am very upset. I cannot even set up an affiliate account. I understand the reasoning behind listing another state to start a business but I am not interested. Too much paperwork and too many hoops. I may choose to do so once I have my business off the ground. I am on a shoestring budget. Any suggestions?
I haven't actually tried this myself, but you could try a third party Amazon Affiliate provider. This will give you the ability to become an affiliate through the third party. This will save you setting up business in another state, etc.
When I worked on the road in the medical field, even tho my home is in TX, I incorporated, LLC, in Nevada. One of the great things about being incorporated is you pay all your biz expenses and then pay taxes on what is left instead of paying off the top.
Thank you for the heads up. An LLC company takes time and more money? I don't live in those states, but good that others know that do. ^-~14015/7/1
Actually, Georgia is not on the list. Yes, Georgia did pass a law last year but it has not officially gone into effect yet. There may be some behind the scenes negotiations but for now affiliates in Georgia can still earn commissions with Amazon.
Please add the state of Georgia to your list of states as it is my understanding that we also can't be affiliates here in Georgia as of sometime last year.
You could also look for a third party Amazon affiliate that will give you a percentage of commissions for any sales that you provide to them. My state hasn't been banned yet so I haven't looked into this myself. But it is another option. Just do a search online for "Third Party Amazon Affiliate".
I am not from those states but good on you for state this to help the community.
Thank you that is why I am here people like you. ;O)

Sorry about the comment I just made about Ga. I didn't realize I had already posted the comment earlier until I checked below. Once again I am sorry. Someone mentioned that it isn't in effect yet for Ga.
