Surely THIS is what life should really be about?

So, I'd really intended to get stuck in to my writing this afternoon. I'd fully intended to write two or three pieces of work for my fishing website (I'm still working on it - even though I'm not 100% sure that its ever going to fly!), but I got side-tracked! Pleasantly as it turned out. :-)

Having been up half the night with one of our cat's health issues and having been unable to get to sleep until around 5am this morning, I was feeling more than a little tired.

I was innocently dozing; rotting in my pit if you will (read snuggled up in a nice warm bed) when she who must be obeyed informed me that there was a lady outside who wanted to see me.

After a few grumpy words (what me? - never!) I dragged myself to my office window, flung it open and said to the young lady standing in our yard below 'Hello?'

She looked up, answered my greeting pleasantly and informed me that she was from the local council and was checking up on me with regard to my state of health. Was I okay for medication, food, that kind of thing?

For a few minutes we engaged in pleasant conversation and I duly informed her that yes, I was okay for all of the essentials. She made a few notes; we wished each other well - and she left.

Now fully awake, I sought out my partner (who by now had gone into our kitchen) and we decided to have a drink out on the patio; as the sun was out and there was very little in the way of a breeze. My partner went with her chosen tipple - coffee and I opted for a glass of cider.

Maybe it was the cider on an empty stomach or maybe the company or more probably a combination of the two, but in very short order, I was feeling totally relaxed and even what I'd call quite mellow. :-)

We sat and drank, we enjoyed the sun and three of our cats playing in the yard - and we talked. Yes, we actually talked!

Its a sad fact of life, that so many couples these days don't bother to - or can't manage to - find the time to just talk! Though we've been together now for close to 20 years, sitting there together it was easy to imagine that we were back in the day and getting to know each other on one of our first dates. It was lovely!

We reminisced, we discussed the present Corona Virus issue, we mourned together - the loss of a friend who only yesterday had lost their life to this modern plague - we made tentative plans for our future together. We counted our blessings. We - just as importantly - took time to enjoy each other's company. It was a great afternoon. :-)

I'm sitting here now writing this after we've discussed what we're going to have for dinner this evening (tossed salad in fact - I love it!) and we're going to watch an old black and white film on the t.v. that we recorded ages ago.

Yes, I have to get back to some kind of work tomorrow. Yes, I must write those pieces for my website; but tonight, I'm going to relax; relax and enjoy my dinner, enjoy the film and - much more importantly - enjoy my time with my partner!

As the old saying goes "All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy!" So today, no more work for this boy!

I hope that all of you out there in WA land take enough time out to appreciate what you've got. We all want more from life, but sometimes, reflecting upon just how lucky we are at present is worth a whole lot more than money......
