Choosing a Niche.the foundation of your business.

I have seen people join Wealthy Affiliate, go through the training and then get frustrated because they aren't making any money, even though they have only been doing this for a couple of months. I am still learning daily and I realize that this is going to be a process that, if I put forth consistent effort over a long period of time, I can make money online. The training here is first class and the community seems dedicated to helping each other succeed. I am so glad I landed here and I don't see me going anywhere else...You all are stuck with me! LOL!

I like to use analogies when explaining or teaching things to others. So, I would like to compare what we are doing here at Wealthy Affiliate to a traditional brick and mortar business. Let's say that you wanted to open up a pizza shop. Everyone has told you that you make the best pizza. Sounds like a good business idea except for the fact that your town

already has 20 other pizza shops. Could you still make money if you opened up another pizza shop? Sure, but you will have to work harder and smarter than all the rest. And, in the end, you still might not make the kind of profit you had hoped for due to the amount of competition of all the other pizza shops in town. Would it have been a better idea to open a sandwich shop in a town that has no sandwich shops? Possibly. You still will have to work hard and put out a quality product but, at least you are filling a niche with little to no competition. So, why do you think that Kyle and Carson have "Choosing your Niche" as one of their first lessons in the Getting Started course? It is because they realize that choosing your niche will be the foundation of your business and will help set you up for success. They teach you to choose a niche that you have a passion for. This way you will have an easier time writing content for your website. Now, I would like to caution you on choosing a niche with a small target audience. You can become an authority in your niche and be the go to website for info on your niche. But, if your target audeince is too small, you may not earn as much money as you had hoped for. That doesn't mean that the niche is wrong for you, it just might be tougher to monetize and make money in it. Much like being an expert in winter apparel and deciding to open your own winter clothing store. But, you choose to open up your store in Jamaica. You may be the go to person in Jamaica when it comes to winter apparel. But, your target audience would be very small. Well, maybe the Jamaican Bobsled Team could be your customers...LOL!! Just don't expect to make as much money as you would if you opened your store in a northern city in the US or Canada.

So, the first step in building a good foundation for your online venture is to choose the proper niche. Take a broad topic like sports. It is much too expansive to be your niche. But, you can narrow it down to something like Youth Hockey Equipment and Apparel. This niche would

give you a big enough target audience and enable you to write many articles and reviews to fill up your website. You could become an authority site for Youth Hockey and make a lot of parents happy! So, if you are having trouble coming up with ideas for your niche, ask for some help. If we put our heads together, we just might come up with a good niche for you to use.
