Hi, WA Friends!

For my 100th WA blog post, I decided to give you something helpful (for a change), that is, if you use Google AdSense.

Beginning on December 13th, AdSense will offer a new ad format called side rails.

Here's what Google has to say:

"Side rails are ads that stick to the sides of your pages when they're viewed on widescreen devices, such as desktops. If you already have anchor ads turned on, side rails will automatically start to appear on your site after 13-12-2022," so no further action is required.

Google expects that some sites will see a significant increase in revenue after the side rails ads are activated.

If you prefer not to use this ad format, you can turn off "Side rails" in your Auto ads settings. I'll have to see how it looks and functions before I decide what to do on my guitar site.

Enjoy Your Weekend, Everyone ... And

Keep On Rockin' 🤘

I had seen that, and I didn't think much of it, but you got me wondering...

I've been using Adsense for years, but I always decide "where" the ads go on my website and articles. I never took the plunge with Auto Ads, and I'm not sure how it would work if I decided to do so.

Let me explain: When I finish an article and decide the "where" of the ad placement, I use the HTML code block to insert the ad. If I would go with Auto Ads, I'm not sure what would happen with all the HTML code, but I suspect that my website would be ALL ads and not much content in between...

Haha, I do the same thing with my ads. They are not inserted in so many places that it’s terribly annoying to read the content, no matter how helpful it is.

I typically bounce off those sites immediately if I can’t proceed with an ad blocker.

I put one in the sidebar, which mobile users won’t see because it’s at the very bottom, one in the content, and the anchor ad.

We might be able to manually activate the side rail ad, we’ll see when they unleash it.

Have a great weekend! 😎

Well we do the exact same thing 😉. Even the side bar. Like you, I will wait and see...

Good morning Frank,

I hope you're doing well. Thank you for the heads up.

I'm always interested to hear about AdSense, as my very first moneymaking website was a Google AdSense site. I'm actually thinking of adding AdSense to one of my sites, so good to hear what's available.

Have a great weekend.

Roy

You’re Welcome, Roy!

I have AdSense on my Guitar site but I place their ads where I want them to go. Certainly not the best way to make money with PPC, but I’m more interested in the traffic generated from a positive UX. 😎

Frank 🎸

Good morning Frank,

I think it's great to experiment with different monetising ideas. I remember actually trying AdSense on my offline business website, just to see what would happen. It probably wasn't the best thing to, however, it did make me see the potential of an online business.

I was actually encouraging people to leave my website, when I wanted them to really call me and use my services. However, I was just intrigued by how AdSense worked! I learnt enough to make my first moneymaking website and AdSense website. So something good came out of it.

Wishing you a great Sunday.

Roy

Hi, Roy

I have a minimum implementation of AdSense on my guitar site, which I added to experiment with PPC, much like you.

I’m looking into using Ezoic, but there are some potential problems with the WA platform.

I’ll probably wait about 6 months and see where my traffic stands. Right now I have about 18,000 sessions per month on my guitar site, but it’s growing progressively.

Depending where the numbers stand in June, I might wait another 6 months for Mediavine.

No rush, really. 😎

Frank 🎸

Good morning Frank,

It's good to experiment and test things out, we can learn so much!

It's great that your traffic is growing. Maybe you are better to wait and use Mediavine, I have heard good things about the platform. I have heard of people having a few problems with Ezoic, but I must admit, I haven't tried it.

Am I correct in saying that you need 100,000 page views per month for Mediavine?

Have a great day.

Roy

Hi, Roy

Mediavine is 50,000/month
AdThrive is 100,000/month

It’s sessions/month, not page views.

I don’t know if I can hit AdThrive anytime soon, but I’m definitely shooting for MediaVine. 😎

Frank 🎸

Hello Frank,

Thank you for the information; it sounds like you have carried out your research.

So, in an ideal world, Adthrive would be best if you had 100,000/sessions per month or would Mediavine reward you accordingly if you were able to achieve 100,000 sessions/per month?

So, in other words, if you started with Mediavine and then achieved 100,000 sessions, would you have to change ad networks?

It's great that you're website is getting views etc., Frank; well done!

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Roy

Hi, Roy

You could stick with Mediavine if you had 100,000 sessions/month, but the question is would they reimburse you as well as AdThrive?

That’s way beyond my current metrics so I haven’t looked into it.

I’ll be very happy if I make 50,000 in about a year from now. 😎

Frank

Good morning Frank,

Thank you for your reply, it's appreciated.

Yes, I hear what you are saying, it would be interesting to know, hopefully, you will find out sooner than you think!

It's good to have sensible and realistic goals, Frank, it gives us something to aim for! In the meantime, we just keep moving forward to our goals.

Have a wonderful day.

Roy

Hi, Roy

Yes, one key to success is setting goals that are realistic and obtainable.

For me, blogging is just a small part of my life, but I have to say it’s more interesting than I had imagined. 😎

Frank 🎸

Hello again Frank,

I think goal setting has to be good if it's carried out realistically.

I know where you are coming from, Frank! I certainly didn't expect to be writing blog posts, but you are right; it is much more interesting than I ever imagined. Especially when you have a passion for your niche.

Roy

Hi, Roy

Passion is everything in life, no matter what you are doing! 😎

Frank 🎸

Hello, again Frank,

That is very true indeed! I guess probably musicians and football fans are some of the most passionate people on earth! Incidentally, I don't know us in thing about British football, but I do see that fans have a passion for the game! And as we know, many 🎸muso's🎸 can only talk about one thing, but the good thing is they have a passion for what they are doing. Fantastic! I really like to see people with a passion!

Roy

Hi, Roy

Yeah, most of my friends are either musicians or physicians.

Either way, the conversation always seems to turn musical. It must be me! 😎

Frank

Good morning Frank,

I think it's a very good and healthy thing to do, Frank, we need to have a passion for life and be enthusiastic about our hobbies etc. Music is such a nice and fascinating subject to talk about, I think it's something that the majority of people enjoy even if you don't play an instrument.

Have a great day.

Roy

Hi, Roy

I find that musicians listen to music totally different than others.

Most people that don’t play an instrument tend to lock in on the lyrics of a song and ignore what’s going on rhythmically, harmonically, and melodically.

Frank 🎸

Hello Frank,

I hope your day is going well.

That's interesting you say that, as my old guitar teacher said exactly the same and I was also the same as someone who didn't play an instrument! This was something that he taught me in the early days!

Now when I listen to music, I'm picking out the individual instruments and listening to what they are playing! It's fascinating!

It never fails to amaze me the sound a few instruments to make, it really is remarkable!

Enjoy the rest of your evening.

Roy

Hi, Roy

That's why my favorite music is opera and symphonic concerts. There's just an incredible amount going on with the music.

Opera singers are very different from pop music singers. They use their voice like an instrument. Don't focus on their words; listen to their tone, range, and vibrato.

Try to mimic the vocal lines of opera singers on guitar. Very challenging to get it right! 😎

Frank 🎸

Frank, this is an interesting development from Google AdSense.
I will have to take a closer look.

Thank you for sharing.
Cassi

You’re Welcome, Cassi!

It won’t be long before we can take a look. 😎

Have a great weekend!
Frank 🎸

You too, Frank!!

This is our last weekend in Trinidad before we head to Florida for the Holidays.

Cassi

Cassi, have an excellent time in Florida and enjoy the holidays to the max! 👍😎

Frank 🎸

Sounds like something to explore, Frank! If I understand correctly, these ads will not obstruct your website visitor's views, am I correct on that?

Jeff

That’s my impression, too, Jeff.

We’ll see! 😎

Frank 🎸

Thanks, Frank! It is definitely something worth looking into though!

Jeff😎🎸

I don’t make much with AdSense, Jeff, because I custom-placed my ads so they’re not super annoying. 😎

Frank 🎸

Ah! I see, Frank!

Jeff😎🎸

Hi Frank...great to learn about this and thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend!

Susan 😎🎸

You too, Susan! 😎
