Hi WA Friends!

Let me ask you something:
Who uses laptops and desktop computers these days? The answer is content creators (like us), students, and visually challenged individuals, for the most part, right? Sure, there are other uses. I still use a laptop in my digital recording studio, but I also have a simpler version on my iPhone for when I have a guitar in my hands and musical inspiration strikes.

The way people get information has completely changed over the last ten years. If you're like me, your smartphone is the first thing you look at in the morning and the last thing you put down at night.

If marketers want to stay relevant, their strategy has to fit in our pockets. That's where mobile-first marketing comes into play.

Mobile Traffic Dominates The Internet

If you need just one reason to focus on mobile-first marketing, here's a big one: the numbers don’t lie. Most web traffic today comes from mobile devices. Around 60-70% of all internet use happens on mobile. This means if your marketing isn’t optimized for mobile, you’re basically ignoring a huge chunk of your audience.

If your content doesn’t load fast or looks weird on a phone screen, you’re losing potential customers before you even get a chance to connect. Mobile-first marketing is all about giving people a smooth, easy experience that keeps them interested, no matter what kind of device they’re using.

Search Engines Love Mobile-First Content

Want to keep search engines happy? (Trust me, you do.) Then you need to think mobile-first. Most search engines now use the mobile version of websites to decide how to rank them. This means if your site isn’t mobile-friendly, it’s going to be really tough to move up the search rankings. It’s like showing up to a gig without tuning your guitar - no matter how good you are, it's not going to sound great.

Things like responsive design, fast loading times, and easy navigation on mobile devices are what search engines want to see. If you make mobile users your priority, you’re more likely to grab that top spot on page one. And that’s exactly where you want to be when your audience is searching for what you’re offering.

Users Expect A Seamless Experience

We’re all a bit impatient these days. If something takes more than a few seconds to load, we’re already moving on to something faster. Mobile-first marketing is all about giving users what they want: a fast, smooth, and hassle-free experience. Whether it’s clicking an ad, buying something, or just reading a blog post, the experience on mobile should be just as good - or better - than on a computer.

Think about your favorite apps or websites. The ones you keep coming back to are probably easy to use and don’t make you zoom in just to click a button. That’s what you need for mobile-first marketing - a smooth experience that keeps people engaged.

Social Media Lives On Mobile

Most of us use social media on our phones. If you’re running ads or posting content on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook, you’re already in a mobile-first world. Your audience is on their phones, so your content has to be ready for that. Vertical videos, easy-to-read text, and quick loading times are all must-haves if you want your content to stand out.

A mobile-first approach makes your social media strategy stronger because it meets your audience right where they are. Your content isn’t just competing with other brands - it’s also competing with cat videos, memes, and whatever else is trending. If your content doesn’t look good or load fast, people will just swipe right past it.

E-Commerce And Mobile Shopping

Shopping has moved to mobile in a big way. More and more people are buying things straight from their phones, either through a mobile browser or directly on a social media app. If you’re selling anything online, a mobile-first approach is a must. Think about it - nobody wants to deal with a clunky checkout process or buttons that are too small to press.

By optimizing your online store for mobile, you make it easier for people to buy from you. The simpler you make it for someone to complete a purchase, the more likely they are to do it. Mobile-first marketing isn’t just about making your site look good - it’s about creating an experience that turns casual browsers into buyers.

The Future Is Mobile-First!

Mobile-first marketing isn’t just a trend - it’s the "new normal."

The reality is, we’re not going back. Mobile use is only going to keep growing, and marketers who don’t adapt are going to get left behind.

The next step will be mobile virtual and augmented reality, followed by implantable mobile technology!

So, next time you think about your marketing strategy, think about where your audience spends their time.

Remember, when creating content on a laptop, any information you put in a sidebar will show up at the very bottom of your page/post on a smartphone, where the majority of people will probably never see it!

Great post, Frank!

The process is faster when done on a smartphone. I have to say. :)

Myra ♥️

I use Generate Press, Frank. It's simple and looks clean on mobile.

One downside of mobile traffic that I have experienced is super-low PPC ROI. I'm not saying that won't change with augmented reality. If it does, it will generate a lot more traffic for me.

Hi Dave

I use GeneratePress Pro and GenerateBlocks Pro.

Yeah, I can see how a PPC ad would get someone to your landing page on a mobile device, but they might be leery of making the purchase on their phone or without further research.

I recommend you disable showing ads on mobile devices when using PPC, at least for now. However, people are using mobile devices more and more to purchase things, so that may change in the near future. 😎

Rock On! 🤘

I agree Frank. On my sites about 80% of visitors find me on mobile... but it's difficult to know how many of them follow up and click or buy on laptops.

That's true, Richard.

Yeah, everything is going more and more mobile. People are even using tablets less, now that smartphones are bigger and do more. The majority of people who are not students and can't afford a smartphone and a laptop or tablet will choose the phone because it goes wherever they are.

Laptops are still popular in the workplace, but at the hospital where I'm on staff, the network administrators strictly control which sites are accessible and block everything that is not medically related. So people walk around looking up things on their phones and texting.

At home, we do the majority of our quick informational searches on hands-free assistive devices powered by Apple, Google, and Amazon. They are all over the house, so access is pretty ubiquitous. Some have screens to display recipe ingredients, cocktail mixes, etc. I have all the security features configured, and they are not permitted to automatically reorder products or purchase anything new.

I do most of my work on my phone, including creating drafts for website content and WA blogs, since I'm not home much these days.

When I'm home, I mainly use my laptop as a digital recording studio for my guitar and to finalize content I created on my phone.

Rock On! 🤘
