Another Friday The 13th! - A Day To Beware, But Have Fun!
Hi WA Friends
If you live in the right (or, should I say "wrong") time zone, then it's another Friday the 13th! It's a day that sends chills down the spines of many people because it's shrouded in superstition and one that many people prefer to avoid.
But why is Friday the 13th considered so unlucky? Where did this superstition come from?
Let's get musical for a minute (haha, did you see that one coming?).
It didn't come from the late, great Albert King, who famously re-recorded the song "Born Under A Bad Sign," although the lyrics were written by William Bell.
The History Of Friday The 13th
The fear of Friday the 13th is thought to have originated from a combination of factors, including (courtesy of Bard AI):
- Religious beliefs: In Christianity, there were 13 guests at the Last Supper, including Jesus and his 12 apostles. The next day was Good Friday, the day of Jesus' crucifixion. This association has led some people to believe that the number 13 is unlucky.
- Norse mythology: In Norse mythology, there were 12 gods and goddesses who sat at a table in the hall of Valhalla. Loki, the trickster god, was not invited to the feast, but he showed up anyway. This made 13 people at the table, and the evening ended in disaster. Loki tricked the blind god HΓΆΓ°r into killing his brother Baldur, the god of light and joy. This event led to the destruction of the world.
- Fear of the unknown: The number 13 has long been associated with bad luck and death. It's thought that this is because 13 is a prime number, meaning that it can only be divided by itself and 1. This makes it unique and mysterious, and therefore, somewhat frightening.

Good morning Frankie! Just gotten over the βparaskevidekatriaphobiaβ yesterday when I went with my daughter to the mall.
Not much people in this time of the year!, although businesses are prep for the Holidays!
Enjoy the continuing Frisatsu Frankie πΈπ!
Cheers,
Maria πΉ
Hi Maria
Ahhh, the mall ... haven't been there in years!
My wife does all my clothes shopping, and I buy most everything else online. Lol
We even get the majority of our groceries delivered, except for what we buy in our favorite gourmet food stores.
Well, I do hit the Guitar Center and the other local music stores. Haha! πΆ
Happy Saturday
Frank πΈ
Yeah, Maria, the prom is a big deal, so I certainly understand that!
Ahhh, to be young again! Lol π
At this point, I think stores that sell large items like refrigerators are still doing well. It's too much of a hassle to buy something that large online, having it delivered by mail, and bringing it into your home. Sending it back if there's something wrong with it would be even worse!
Rock On! π€

Good morning Frank,
How are you doing? I hope all is well! I haven't responded to any of your blog posts lately; that's not deliberate!
It's funny how people become superstitious about things! I know that Friday the 13th has passed here in the UK, but it's never worried me, I enjoyed my day! As a Christian, things like that don't even cross my mind!
I have to say that it's interesting what you wrote, though, and it's interesting to hear how these things first came about!
I'm glad you were able to add a little musical touch, Frank, it couldn't really be your post without a bit of music mentioned!!π
Wishing you a great weekend.
Roy
Hi Roy
Yeah, I try to write things that are a bit different to break things up a little on the platform. How many times can we read "write with user intent," etc., although it is very useful for newbies. π
Most of my family is very superstitious in one way or another. I bought into the Friday the 13th thing as a little kid because it was fun to play along.
I've never had anything bad happen that I can remember on a Friday the 13th.
I remember when the first "Friday The 13th" movie came out. It did for that day what the movie Jaws did for swimming in the ocean, Lol
That series went on forever, just like "Nightmare On Elm Street" and "Halloween."
They're still making Halloween episodes, and the Michael Myers mask for the first move was made from a mask of William Shatner turned inside-out and spray-painted white.
P.S. If you've never listened to that Albert King album, "Born Under A Bad Sign," be sure to check it out. It's an absolute classic! πΆ

Good morning Frank,
I know where you're coming from, some blog posts can be quite similar! But on the other hand, it's good to encourage members who are starting out!
It's amazing how, when we are children, we can take things a bit more seriously in a fun way and play along with etc. I'm glad that nothing bad happened on that date!
Here in the UK, it appears that Halloween has become a big thing. Although, I think that's something that the shops like to make money out of!
I haven't listened to Albert King, maybe I ought to check it out! There is so much good music about, or maybe there certainly was some good music about. I must be getting old, as I don't know a single record in the charts now. When I was a teenager, I almost knew every record in the chart and what position it was in.
If I looked at the top 40 now, my guess is that I wouldn't recognise any of the band names! I don't know if that's good or bad!
Have a great day.
Roy
Hi Roy
Yeah, Albert King was a Blues monster, so listen to everything he ever recorded!
Youβll hear the difference in his sound right away, partially due to the way he plays his Flying V guitar, βLucy.β
He plays left-handed and turns a right-handed guitar upside down without restringing it.
So his high-E string is on the top instead of the bottom, which means when he bends notes on the high-E, B, and G strings he has to bend them down with his fingers, not bend them up.
There are other plays that do this, like Coco Montoya and Doyle Brahamhill III, but Albert pretty much invented all the licks that have βthat sound.β
Well, thereβs your musical homework assignment, so get busy having fun with it! π
Rock On!π€
Frank πΈ
Good morning Frank,
It's amazing how many great musicians there are out there, they never fail to amaze me! It's good when people's character comes out through the instrument!
I would expect someone who plays a Flying V guitar to be fairly unique!
I don't think that I have ever seen anyone turn their guitar upside down, I think that would be too complicated for my brain! Does he still play chords with the guitar upside down? I need to have a look at this, it's fascinating!
Many musicians amaze and amuse me! How can Angus Young and Brian Johnson of AC/DC keep running around for a whole concert!
I saw a comedian do an impression of Brian Johnson, which is absolutely hilarious! Incidentally, Brian Johnson knows about it as they have done a few things together! People told the comedian that he ought to be the new lead singer of AC /DC, he said, "I can't, I'm absolutely shattered after doing one song"!
I will try and complete my musical assignment homework as quickly as possible!ππ
Have a great day and thank you for the chat.
Roy
Hi Roy
There are many left-handed guitar players, enough that Fender and other guitar companies make left-handed guitars.
For example, Jimi Hendrix and Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) are two famous examples. However, their guitars have a standard string order (high-E on the bottom).
Yeah, Angus Young always amazes me with his on-stage antics. Most people can't play his music correctly while standing perfectly still, but he makes it look so easy! Lol
Let me know what you think of Albert King's music. I'm sure you've heard some of his songs before, and you'll hear where Stevie Ray Vaughan came from. π
Rock On! π€
Frank πΈ
Hello again Frank,
When I see someone playing a guitar left-handed, it always looks a bit awkward! According to Google, 10 to 15% of people are left-handed, I would have thought it would have been a bit less! But that's what Google told me a few seconds ago!
Angus Young does make it look very easy, but I know it's not like that! I believe that when he was a boy, he took his guitar everywhere, even into the bathroom!! I could be wrong, but I believe I read that!
I will have a listen to some Albert King music; I appreciate the heads up.
Have a great day.
Roy
Hi Frank,
This Friday 13th has been awesome for me. I wanted to upgrade my iPhone 11 to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. When I went to the website of my mobile provider it said that the earliest I could get one is October 18th. I decided to wait.
When I returned to the website, the delivery date was changed to October 24th. To avoid further delays I placed my order. This was on Monday this week.
To my surprise, I received an email saying the phone was shipped yesterday and I would be receiving it today via FedEx. Sure enough, it was delivered this Friday the 13th afternoon. I love Friday the 13th!
Cheers.
Edwin
Haha, Edwinππ
It worked out great for you. The hell with Friday the 13th! Lol π
Frank πΈ
Friday the 13ths have generally not been kind to me over the years Frank!!
Superstition or not (and I am not a very superstitious person generally) I have actually had more accidents and broken more bones on a Friday 13th than on any other day of the year!!
Why???
Beats me!!
But... today is going well, my pup is out of the hospital and seems fine, about another half an hour to survive and I don't plan on going anywhere!!
Rock On!!
ππΈππ»
Wow, Nick!
I believe that there are many unexplainable things in this world.
Iβm super happy to hear that this Friday the 13th is going your way.
Itβll be over in just minutes, then you can have a drink to celebrate your success! π»π
Rock On! π€
Frank πΈ
I too believe that many unexplained things happen in the world Frank, past, present and future!!
I'm six minutes past mine now, so will certainly have a drink to celebrate (not that I haven't had a couple before anyway)!!!
Keep on Rockin' buddy and catch up again in the maΕana!!
πππΈπ»π
Hi Nick
Congrats, you did it! ππ₯³
Iβm completely sure you got started with the celebratory activities early! Haha π»π»
Rock On! π€
Frank πΈ
Cheers Frank and you're not wrong there!!
Have a Rockin' weekend buddy!!

Great article Frank; made me laugh there is a name for Friday the 13th. Good job I am not superstitious as i zip-lined down a volcano this morning not knowing it was even Friday, never mind the 13th.
Incidentally, the Spanish have the same superstitions, but they say the day to watch out for is Tuesday the 13th . Do the Italians have another day of the week?
Thanks, Catherine!
Zip lining down a volcano! Ok, I'm super impressed! π²
The Italians are superstitious every day, especially my family! Haha
See the answer I gave Susan in this thread for more info. π
Frank πΈ
Hi Frank...thanks for sharing another great and informative article!
I like the correlation: "There are only about 1-3 Friday the 13ths each year." How appropriate "1-3".

Hi there, Frank.
Love all the Friday the 13th information. For many years, it has turned out to be my lucky day. For whatever reason, I've received a check in the mail, a call from a distant friend, and once had a job offer to work for a chiro.
Year to date nothing has happened too bizaar on Friday the 12-14th.
Thanks for this reminder.
Rachele
Haha, thatβs great, Rachele.
Itβs just another day to me, but itβs fun to recognize and talk about. π
Frank πΈ
Life is pretty boring without the fun things, Frank.
It's about the energy we put into these epic holidays, I guess.
Rachele

Absolutely, Rachele! πππΈ
