What I Got Wrong About Referrals
(And What I'm Doing Differently Now)
I’ve been part of Wealthy Affiliate for a while now.
I’ve seen the platform grow, shift, evolve.
And I’ve made all the classic mistakes along the way.
When I first started referring people,
I thought I had to convince them.
Push them.
Point them to the site, fire off automated emails, drop links, stay visible, stay active.
And for a while, it felt like it worked... numbers went up.
But nothing stuck.
People clicked.
Then froze.
Then left.
I was giving too much, too fast, too soon.
No space. No breathing room.
No time for them to figure out what they actually wanted from WA.
What I Missed

Most people who join WA aren’t lazy or unmotivated.
They’re just confused.
Overwhelmed.
Unsure of what this place even is.
So I’ve changed my approach.
Now, I guide. I don’t push.
I created a 9-Day Tour... a simple, self-paced introduction to WA, hosted on my own site.
It’s not a funnel. It’s a map.
Each day is one small step.
One idea.
One action.. if they’re ready for it.
(You can find the first day under my profile)
What I Learned
- Don’t assume people want to build a site on Day 1. (Unles they are experts)
- Don’t bury them in emails before they even know where they are.
- Don’t treat real humans like traffic.
Start slow.
Guide gently.
Be the voice that says: “You’re not behind.”
If You’re Referring People Too...
Try this:
- Reach out personally. Ask why they joined.
- Share your early struggles. It builds more trust than success stories.
- Send them to a tour if they seem overwhelmed.
- Let them choose when (and if) to act.
We’re not here to push.
We’re here to light paths.
See you around WA,
Fleeky
