Full site article improvement plan
Full site article improvement plan
A step-by-step full site article improvement plan for Wealthy Affiliate sites.
(Very serious today).
This blog was inspired by Thimothy's question on one of my blogs: "If I want to go through all my articles, and improve them change etc., which is the best way to go."
Iβve broken the answer into phases and listicles so you can do it without getting overwhelmed.
Phase 1 β Prepare
- Back up your site
- In WordPress, use your hostβs backup tool (automatic with WA hosting, SiteSupport can do this).
- This ensures you can restore if something breaks.
- Make a βContent Improvement Trackerβ
- Use Google Sheets, Excel, or Trello.
- Columns to include:
- Post Title
- URL
- Date Published
- Current Word Count
- Traffic (optional: pull from Google Analytics or Search Console)
- Status (Needs Rewrite / Needs SEO / Needs Image / Done)
- Date Updated
- List all your posts
- In WordPress, go to Posts β All Posts.
- Export to CSV with a plugin (or manually copy titles & URLs).
- Paste into your tracker.
Phase 2 β Prioritize
- Decide the order
- Option A: Start with your oldest posts (they often need the most improvement).
- Option B: Start with your highest traffic posts (so updates give quick results).
- Option C: Start with posts ranking on page 2β3 in Google (small improvements can push them to page 1).
- Mark priority level in your tracker (High / Medium / Low). Hi π€
Phase 3 β Editing Process
Do this directly in WordPress for speed. π
For each post:
- Read & Rewrite
- Check for outdated info and fix.
- Improve flow & clarity.
- Remove fluff or repetition.
- Break long paragraphs into shorter ones.
- SEO & Keywords
- Make sure the main keyword is in:
- Title
- First 100 words
- At least one subheading (H2/H3)
- Meta description
- Add related keywords naturally.
- Formatting
- Add headings (H2, H3) for structure.
- Use bullet points for lists.
- Add bold/italic for emphasis.
- Internal & External Links
- Link to other relevant posts on your site.
- Link to 1β2 authoritative sources.
- Images
- Add or replace with high-quality, compressed images.
- Use descriptive alt text (for SEO + accessibility).
- Call to Action
- Add a clear next step: subscribe, read another post, check a resource, comment.
- Update & Test
- Click Update in WordPress.
- View the live page to check formatting.
- Mark as βDoneβ in your tracker with date updated.
Phase 4 β Batch Workflow
To make it easier:
- Set a daily goal (e.g., update 1β3 articles per day).
- Work in small, consistent chunks. Itβs better to update steadily than try to do all at once.
- Use your tracker to see progress (very motivating).
Phase 5 β Monitor Results
- In Google Search Console:
- Watch rankings for updated posts.
- Often youβll see a bump within 2β6 weeks.
- In Google Analytics (or WA Site Stats):
- Compare before & after traffic.

π‘ Pro tip
If you have posts that are very outdated or too short to improve...
consider merging them into a stronger, updated article instead of keeping them separate.

Now that is sound advice! I have not gone through any of my older post yet. But have been sharing them to my social profiles.
I have been thinking on screen shooting certain sections of each and creating a entirely new article with them on my social outlets.
I have yet to do this as well, because school keeps me busy. However, im saving this post to come back to.
Yep... reviving and rewriting older posts is rewarding... doing that for, past year and it works well... π

Yep... i just change date before publishing... (no problem) and that brings the post on first page again...
Nite nite
Hey Fleeky,
Thank you for sharing this important advice. It seems like a lot of work, oftentimes unnecessary... Especially if you could have done it right the first time, I'm not talking about outdated content, but rather the flaws.
I'm too busy for such a huge task right now, and when I'm not busy I'm too lazy. However, it is probably needed if you want improved results.

Hey Fleeky,
You have created an easy-to-follow guide we all can use, I often put off updating older articles with new information because it always seemed so time consuming. With your guide I feel less anxious about doing this task, and the rewards are worth our time to do
Jeff
Yes absolutely Jeff.

AI can help a lot there as well...
