Confessions of a Stress Chicken
😵💫 Confessions of a Stress Chicken
How Avoiding the Mess Became the Bigger Disaster
Once upon a meltdown, I realized I wasn’t running a blog or a business anymore. I was running a high-functioning panic farm — nesting in avoidance, pecking at distractions, and pretending that delay was strategy.
I was the Stress Chicken. And let me tell you: it does not lay golden eggs.
🐣 The Rise of the Stress Chicken
Avoidance doesn’t start loud. It’s quiet. Subtle. It sounds like:
- "I'll decide tomorrow."
- "I just need to research one more thing."
- "Let me clean my desktop first."
Before you know it, you’re buried in tabs, halfway through 12 unfinished projects, and convincing yourself that organizing your folder names counts as "progress."
🥚 What Stress Avoidance Looks Like in the Wild
It’s sneaky.
- You start 5 things to avoid finishing 1.
- You’re obsessed with finding "the perfect tool"... to avoid actually using one.
- You rebrand your stress as "strategic patience."
- You scroll productivity tips while your to-do list begs for mercy.
You’re not lazy. You’re overwhelmed. And you’re stuck in chronic mental buffering.
🥚 The Big Cluck-Up
When Avoidance Crashes
Eventually, it all piles up. The email backlog hits 100,000. The tasks you pushed "until later" form a stress avalanche. And suddenly... you're standing in the middle of your mental barnyard, staring at the chaos you swore you were keeping under control.
It’s not burnout from overworking. It’s burnout from over-avoiding.
✨ The Golden Nugget
Clarity Comes From Motion
Here’s the chicken wisdom I clawed out of the rubble:
- Action is an antidote. One imperfect step beats 100 hypothetical ones.
- Your brain loves progress. Even tiny wins shrink your anxiety loops.
- The only way out is through. You can’t solve stress by avoiding it — only by engaging with it differently.
🌟 From Stress Chicken to Action Hawk
I'm not saying I’ve transformed into a productivity phoenix. But I stopped nesting in panic. I started:
- Picking ONE task.
- Finishing it (badly, if needed).
- Letting momentum do its thing.
It’s messy. But mess in motion is better than perfection in paralysis.
📊 Final Cluck-Down
If you're a stress chicken too — breathe, pick one hole to dig, and trust that clarity comes from motion. Let’s stop nesting. Let’s start doing.
(No golden eggs were harmed in the making of this breakthrough.)
My featherless, frazzled, but heroically determined chicken! 🐔💥
( “I’m exhausted but I’m still standing” )
Honestly… this might become my brand mascot at this point. 😂
Other stress chickens... ahoy!
And have a good laugh...

Excellent post Fleeky! I can certainly relate, lol.
It's funny (sort of) that I can find such motivation to get all kinds of things done (that don't really need doing at the moment) to avoid doing what I really should be doing. Things like "oh, maybe I should clean out the cupboards or organize the desk drawers, etc." Before I know it, time has flown by and the day is gone and still haven't worked on whatever project I'm secretly avoiding.
I'm great at starting a new project or ideas, but finishing it is something else. In the past year though I think I've gotten a bit better at realizing when I'm doing this and put a stop to it. I have so many interests that it's hard to find time for everything. Realizing this, I've been trying my best to focus on one lately and even went so far as to join an 8-week course in illustration where I have to get so much done each week. So far, so good. This will also tie in with one of my niches, so a win-win in the long haul.
So true that picking one thing and getting it done even if it's done badly is a great way to get momentum going. This reminds me of a little piece of advice that my painting teacher always says, "finished is better than perfect." It's been something that I keep reminding myself every time I find I'm grinding the good ole' procrastination wheel. Just get it done!
Thanks for sharing, Fleeky! Great insights to live by both online and off to stop "perfection in paralysis" as you mentioned.
Best wishes :) ~Sherry
Sherry, I absolutely love everything you shared here! 🥰 It’s such a real and relatable journey... that funny-but-frustrating dance between organizing cupboards and avoiding the 'real work' resonates deeply, lol.
I admire how you're becoming more aware of those patterns and proactively shifting gears ... joining an 8-week illustration course sounds like a fantastic way to turn momentum into magic! 🎨✨
And yes, your painting teacher's advice is gold: 'Finished is better than perfect.' It really echoes what I've been learning too — sometimes we just have to let go of perfection and let the work live.
Thank you for adding your wisdom and experience to this post. I’m cheering you on every step of the way... one bold (and beautifully imperfect) finish at a time! 🚀
Fleeky
Thank you Fleeky!🥰 It sure is amazing what a person can find to do when avoiding the things that really need to be done, lol. 🤣 Yes, letting go of perfection has been the best thing ever as nothing is ever "perfect" anyways. Haha, I just need to keep reminding myself that some days.
Cheering you on every step to your success as well, Fleeky! 🚀🌟
Best wishes ~Sherry
Thank you so much for your touching words. 🙏 It’s powerful to know that we are never alone on this journey ... that even across different paths and experiences, we find shared strength. Wishing you courage and peace as you continue forward, and know that your story matters.

I can relate , I’m the projects Queen , I have interest in many areas ! Too many projects and ideas and not enough time to complete. But yes action is key. Positive Vibes
Ah, fellow Projects Queen! 👑 I hear you. It's such a beautiful challenge to have a mind full of ideas, even if time sometimes feels like the rarest resource. I'm learning (slowly but surely!) that even small, consistent action keeps the creativity alive and flowing. Here's to channeling all that vibrant energy into amazing things — one step at a time. Positive vibes right back at you! ✨🚀

I love this Fleeky - and where did you get that photo of me?!!
Keep going, with your 'one action' strategy. I think it helps everything and if you can tick off one thing a day, (without adding more), your list will get noticeably smaller.
Have a great day, Fleeky.

Yep, I learned the 2 minutes action tip from you (do not postpone what only takes 2 minutes to complete) ...
It has helped me a lot ... 😌
Have a blessed week
Fleeky Strut now, according to Richard 🙂↕️😏
