This week I see a surprisingly clear common thread: AI is leaving the laboratory. Not only heading toward better chatbots, but toward businesses, infrastructure, legislation ... and autonomous systems. (ACE all around😉)

DeepMind’s captain is changing decks.

The week's biggest plot twist came from Google: reports say Demis Hassabis is stepping away from day-to-day DeepMind leadership to concentrate more on long-range science and AGI work, amid a broader leadership reshuffle and departures of prominent researchers.
👉 The talent race has apparently progressed from stealing researchers to rearranging the chessboard.

Apparently AI may want to become... a donut.

A wonderfully odd report says OpenAI is exploring a roughly $300 portable AI device described as donut-shaped and designed to perceive what's around its wearer. Treat the details as reported rather than confirmed...
👉 After years of asking what comes after the smartphone, "wear the donut" was not high on my list.

AI is quietly moving from answering science to doing science.

OpenAI's recent work on agentic scientific computing describes systems that can participate in longer research workflows rather than merely answer individual questions. Meanwhile, AI labs are increasingly building dedicated scientific tools.
👉 The interesting shift is subtle: assistant → collaborator → experimental machinery.

And Claude apparently has a little room behind the curtain.

Recent Anthropic research identified a small internal neural "workspace" (dubbed J-space) whose activity appears to carry information models can use and manipulate without simply corresponding to their visible words. Fascinating? Yes. Proof of consciousness? Absolutely not.
👉 Wonderland has acquired another door labelled DO NOT OVERINTERPRET... so naturally everyone is opening it.

The AI race is becoming less American.

India's Sarvam AI is increasingly being framed as part of an effort to build serious domestic AI capability rather than merely consume models made elsewhere. That matters.
👉 The next AI map may contain many more centres of gravity... And considerably fewer neat little flags saying Silicon Valley was here.

Wonderland's thought of the week?

Last week, we found ourselves talking about guardrails.
This week, something else is becoming visible:

AI isn't merely getting bigger.
It is spreading outward.

Into science.
Into objects.
Into nations.
Into our attempts to understand the models themselves.

And somewhere behind all of that sits the question we've already spotted lurking behind the trees: AI. AGI. Classical computing... and then there is quantum.

The rabbit has noticed that path.
He hasn't taken it yet.

Perhaps the most surprising story this week isn’t in one spectacular breakthrough.

A year ago, we mainly looked at the model.Now we need to look at the system around the model:
AI + agents + businesses + laws + chips + data centers + humans.

And that leads me to this week’s Wonderland question: What if the next big leap in AI is not a leap in intelligence at all… but the leap from intelligence to action?

Because once AI not only answers, but starts doing things itself, our old question changes too.

No longer just: How smart will AI become?
But: Who hands it the keys?
