You Gotta Accentuate Positive Attitudes

Remember that song? Accentuate the positive; eliminate the negative; latch on to the affirmative; and don't mess with Mr. In Between? These days, it's important -- you gotta accentuate positive attitudes.

How is your own attitude doing these days? Are you staying positive? In these trying times, it is not always easy, especially if your life is actually endangered.

How can you fight an enemy you can't see? How can you fight your own fear? Ah, there's the culprit -- we are not only fighting the disease, but some of us also have to deal with the debilitating factor of fear.

I am in the high risk group (81 years old; mild heart disease; weak lungs) and have certainly grappled with my fear. However, it seems to me there is a point where you also have to consider your quality of life. Is your fear of benefit to you or is it making things worse?

I've done a lot of thinking about this situation, and have come to the conclusion that it is not worth it to let fears run my life. Yes, I take the precautions seriously -- social distancing; staying out of crowds; using a mask; washing hands and disinfecting.

Except for walks when the weather is good, I am staying very close to home.

As in previous posts, I must return to the example of the sand timer. None of us know how much sand is left in our timer. Because of this truth, we must realize that one of the very healthiest of us could die tomorrow in an accident.

Hiding away is okay for now, but there will come a time when we will be able to reemerge into the world.

Things will be different. This pandemic has changed us. Hopefully the difference will be an improvement. I would suggest that we start now to cultivate a strong, positive attitude, believing that the world will be a better place.

In fact, besides the pandemic behavior guidelines, I think we could do a lot of good for ourselves and those around us if we keep a positive belief system in place.

We must believe that this, too, shall pass. We must keep a strong hope that a way will be found to protect those who need the protection, either with a vaccine or some kind of shot.

We must believe that we will be victors in winning the present world-wide battle. We must be able to put this pandemic behind us and get on with our lives.

Those of us in WA have an advantage. Our role in the company has not changed -- business, in fact, is now most important to present to the rest of the world, because more people now than ever need what we can offer.

So, don't let fear cripple you. Don't let the "what ifs" of negativity get us down. Be a light for the rest of the world by believing in the power of the positive, and shine that light in all the dark places. Celebrate your life, as you are blessed to have it.

Hi Fran, I did read this post soon after you published it but, for whatever reason, I didn't get to leave a comment.

I love all you say. Accentuating the positive is essential to living each day in happiness. If happiness chooses not to come our way at a particular time, we can generate it ourselves. I have a habit of singing little tunes to myself. Some of the old-time songs such as It's a Hap Hap Happy Day sung by Arthur Askey, and it's actually on YouTube. So, no-one can hear me as I'm on my own and can sing my heart out if I choose.

I know the present time is hard for millions of people around the world and if only there was a way to help them. As I'm unable to help I just attempt to spread happiness when and where I can.

Blessings.

Valerie

Great post Fran! Thank you. Gratitude is a goal for me each day. I wake up and write down 3 things I am grateful for. Because it is so easy to focus on the negative! And our thoughts control our feelings and outlook for the day.
I think this time being quarantined has helped me be more focused. I exam my motives and my use of time better. Hopefully after this all ends and things return to "normal" I will be a better person.

You do well to make gratitude a goal. My technique is to think about as many things as I can that I've been grateful for in the day, when I go to bed at night. Important to be grateful.

Yes. Gratitude in the evening also. Mindset is so important.

What an awesome message for today. I know so many who worry and fret out of fear of the unknown.
Fear steals our happiness, it saps our strength. I am determined not to let fear into my thoughts.
I know it can be a challenge but it is possible. I do like the way you address this whole situation. Yes, this too shall pass.
Thanks for taking the time to share today Fran.
Have a blessed week ahead.
Ray

You are most welcome -- and, yes, we can't let fear get the upper hand. The challenge is a good one to accept.
