Social media snowball effect

My background a Classroom education in Digital Marketing and through that I had some courses in Facebook ads and algoritmen understanding. (My last exam is the 17.01.18)

I am frequently active in Kyle's share your google account blog. Just like many of you in here.

His blog have developed into a share, like, follow all social medias post and that is great.

In this blog I will take the step a bit further but first I will shortly explain how Social Media algorithm works.

Facebook was the first algorithm with the intention of awarding good content. Google+, Twitter, Instagram, snapchat use the same kind of algorithm now. They want to show their users good content and are rewarding good content just like the Google search engine ranking does

So how does Social Media algorithm decides what is good content?

They look at interactions and push it like snowball. If people interact with your post then FB algorithm awards it by pushing the snowball so more people will see your post.

Then the more people see the post then likely more people will interact and push the snowball further for many more people to see. That is basic simple.

What is very important is the snowball have a time frame or limit. Facebook don't tell exactly but studies and split tests strongly indicates that the first 20 minutes of a post are the most importants.

The first 20 minutes the post needs less interactions to roll and the more the post is spread the first 20 minutes, the faster it reach more people that can interact within the time frame

Next cycle is 20-60 minutes where the post is still easy to roll but needs a bit more interactions then in the first cycle.

Next cycle is 1h - 3h and then up until 6 hours. After 6 hours it will take a massive amount of interactions to get the snowball rolling again.

So how does that information helps us?

We can create a group of Social Media active and dedicated WA members so every time we post something then we send a message out - I just posted this and please interact.

That way we have a good chance to get interactions the first 0h to 3-6 hours after we posted and that way tell the algorithm to push our post out to more people.

So we just like, give hearts and +'s to all post?

Yes and no. likes, hearts and + are better then nothing but the algorithm is not stupid.

The weight/importants of each interactions is often determinate by how long time it takes for the user to perform it.

The more time you use to interact with my post the better my content is in the eye of the algorithm. For me that is logically while it takes 1 minutes to like 20 post but longer time to comment.

The algorithm can see if you stop and read the post or click read more. Click the picture. See the whole video, click the link or write a comment.

The best part is that you don't actually have to read my post, see the video, picture or read my link. As long click and stay on the post then the algorithm thinks you care.

About clicking the link then it gives website traffic and tells google search engine that someone like our content. It is enough to have a browser tab open in 2-4 minutes with the link. You don't have to read it or even look at it.

How do we tell group members when we just posted something?

I am pretty sure that WA would prefer we did it in here and that is fine for me too. My only concern is the notification system in WA.

I have WA mail notification turned off because I get to many less important mails. If we used the post then I think the notification from just this post would drown in other notifications and then the idea of fast interactions would be ruined.

My suggestions would be a Facebook group where we posted a "please interact on this link"

BUT I don't want to accused for dragging WA members out from WA community so I am open for other ideas.

So what do you say?

Edit 26.01.18

We now have a Facebook group where you can post your links for the Social Media you like interaction with. Twitter, Pinterest, Google+ or what else you use.

Ok I'm in. Good Idea.

Great idea. I'm in.

I am on board with this idea! (:

Today I will ask some of the more dedicated in the social media share blog what they think about it and hopefully they have a good idea how to do best communication practice.

Nice idea!

Very good idea and greatly explained. My suggestion is we stay here at wa and find a way to communicate this the interested members. I'm sure the programmers here at WA can develop an Algorithm capable of selecting which email notification from which module we want to receive. I'm new here and have my email notification on because I don't want to miss an important piece of information but had wishes to be able to just select the subject from which I want to see notification. If that is possible then we are have the solution.
